Hi all,

Is there any major difference between stahlwille work and edition spanners.

Tbs has a 13/15 work combination set for 139.95 euros

And a 13/15 edition set for 89.95 euros.

The sizes don't quite match. The work missing a 9 sz and having a 32.

That said I cannot believe a single larger spanner would warrant that price difference.

I just ordered the edition set. At 89.95 I can pull the gun now rather than wait for the next paycheck.

Thank you all for the great advice and helping me make this choice.

Niels

Good morning everybody. Figured I would share a recent estate sale haul. I went to an estate sale with my father a few weeks ago when I went out to see him. The estate belonged to an old German gentleman who had decided to move back to Germany and sell off his possessions stateside. These were in a bucket of wrenches that were $30.
11e27e9bc889db826f3df1afe49d1e33.jpg
It is a pretty complete set, all marked WGB except for a dowidat 5.5/7 and a rahsol 25/28.

I have at least heard of dowidat and rahsol from using Google search, haven't really been able to turn up much on WGB. Near as I can tell the previous owner likely bought them while in Germany and brought them with him when he moved to the US. Anyway, thought I would share. If you guys happen to know anything about these brands, I would love to hear more. I don't collect them, but I needed a set of deep offsets.

They still exist. My local hardware store stock WGB brand new. Also still labeled Germany.

Too expensive for me to consider but that may be store pricing (local store charges almost double tbs Aachen prices for Gedore)

Thank you for your input. I wasn't familiar at all with the brand when I first saw them, but the quality looked to be good. Casual tool shoppers here in the states don't seem to be interested in anything that isn't hard chrome, but that can work out in your favor sometimes. The other half of the bucket (my dad's half) included a large beta 30mm wrench, a set of no name deep offset ratcheting wrenches, and 3 hazet line wrenches.

The owner of the hardware store reckons WGB falls in the same quality category as Stalhwille or Gedore albeit a little bulkier. The certainly seem well made.

Here, there is an old mining of W.Germany tools. :D

@ north :

Yes, of course, why not? There's just one small problem. There are a few thousand miles between us. :lol_hitti

Unfortunately, these days not to hear good news from Europe. ISIS first and then the great Johan Cruyff

I wish happiness and peace to all.

@ Monte

I am curious to know if you own, or have used the Wera Joker ratcheting spanners.

There's a lot of reviews and even a really good video review here on GJ. Though mostly unboxing or light use reviews.

That said the tools in your toolbox seem to be quality first and and see regular use.

So curious as to your opinion.

I know they are Czech made and I like that Wera spent some time trying to do something new with added value.

One of my worries is the thin backplate on the spanner side wearing quickly. The other is the quality of the ratchet mechanism.

Either way good On you! Those are great tools better than most you can buy here!

What part of Persia are you from? Considering the Persian empire stretched from Kabul to Istanbul… peace be upon you too!

Thank you. Peace and happiness be bestowed upon Cwalter too.

Are these older tools something that can be bought in many shops in your area or is it one particular shop that has them? And what did you have to pay for the different sets if I may ask?

Sorry i don´t own any of them, and i also never used them. I only know them from the stores and fairs....they do have some interesting features though...I wouldn´t be too concerned about the ratchet mechanism...and the plate is exchangeable...it´s from Wera and not Aldi:D
Maybe i would buy the most common size e.g. 13mm and try it...

btw. Aldi....Dewalt at Aldi ...!!!

Persia is the ancient name of Iran.I am using this name because most people in Europe know these names to my country.
Thank you.

There is a large avenue in the capital, the center of the tool. Maybe just four or five shops selling this type of old tools. Most market tools held by China and Taiwan. Especially Toptul with a lifetime warranty. European companies only official representative of Bosch and Unior are here.

You ask about prices. I write to you, the prices that I've bought.
Belzer socket set 90€
Facom lamp plier 15€
Heyco green handle nut drivers 35€
Unior extra wrench set 115€
Heyco double ring set 50€
Elora open end set 40€

Please let me know your opinion about prices.

I know a shop that has 70 of these Heyco socket set ( drive 1/2'' & 24 piece )

Have a good time.

Hi Monte,

Good idea to get a 13 and roll with it. Saw the other thread on the jokers turned a bit into snap on vs world thread. [emoji12] if I could even get snapon here I'd be have tempted to do do a compare review. That said I like snapon tools. I also like good European tools. One does not exclude the other.

I have an Aldi in my village but don't know if I can make it out in time to get any of the dewalt stuff before it's gone. Usually our store only gets minute quantities of the good deals... And there's a line when the store opens. I have to be at work before it opens anyway [emoji12]

Could be an April fools joke. But by publishing the add under Dutch law they now have to sell at least one of each in 75% of the stores for that price. Expensive April fools joke.

According to Etsy, the pat. was awarded in 1952, so this is after that.

Hey superbec,

I'll stick to my Makita as well. Bought a hitachi cordless last year and still regret it.

With regards to the storage boxes I was thinking the same thing. My missus is off on wed so might send her to pick up three of each model.

Bye bye boxes of mixed screws and bolts.

Hi Monte,

You are right you can get snap-On. I cant get snap-On. The last tool truck you linked operates close to my work and I have spoken to him before. We're I live no tool trucks otherwise I'd probably hassle the guy a little more. ( I work 1.5 hours from where I live)

The all require a business license in order to sell to you. As a consumer I do not have a business license. So I if I want I am reliant on second hand. Considering I can get new German tools without the hassle …

Yes I can get both Makita and festool nearby and fein at 25 minutes. Festool is awesome albeit pricey.

On my festool wish list are a shoe sander and a track saw. It's amazing how little vibration the shoe sander from festool passes on to your hands.

I can buy s.o for you, I tried to get something for myself some time ago but the prices are RETAIL + straight conversion euro-dollar, +BTW +customs (maybe) +something on top .
