Thought I'd repost this wrench strength test. It's in German but pretty self-explanatory. Maul is the open end. Hazet did best among the premium brands but clearly price is not a determinant of strength. The 1 euro Indian wrench was as strong as the 2 Snap-on.

http://wiesemann.eu/_UPLOAD/files/Oldtimermarkt.pdf

The Japanese test results elsewhere had Nepros ahead of all of the premium western brands although obviously strength is only one measure of a tools worth.

To be honest you're going to have a hard time putting 100Nm on a normal length 13mm wrench by hand, unless it happens to be a really long. For example the Hazet 600N-13 is 193mm long (which is already longer than a lot of others in the test): so if you get a good grip on the wrench with one hand you have an arm of maybe 15cm with respect to fastener, meaning that you have to put a force of about 666N (145lbs) on it to reach a torque of 100Nm. That's already going to be painful on your hand, let alone going to 200Nm or above.

Sure, I will wait. Stanley dealers live forever, especially if they also sell DeWalt. Did you know that? :bounce: :lol_hitti
:lol: No didn´t know that:D I hope you´ll live longer than a Stanley/Dewalt tool.... :evil::evil::evil:;)

Hey guys. I'm visiting Lund, Sweden near Malmö next week. Is there any tool shops/factories around that's worth visiting?

I sure will! I have to sell you Bost pliers factory, remember? :D :spit:

Cutting wheel from the Soviet Union. Made in 1987 at some mechanical-repair factory in the city of Novy Rozdol. An interesting fact: this factory was subordinate to the Ministry of the production of mineral fertilizers.

Monte ,I like how that knitted hat drops down to cover the ears . clever design !
scarrylarry
Yeah i liked that idea too because my ears are always a bit exposed. Carhartt sells something similar but not over here unfortunately. A Stormy Kromer cap might work too though:)(n/a over here...) But in the meantime i bought something warmer because the Sätila hat is too thin for really cold weather imho....

When would these Hazet pliers of been made, it says West Germany on the box ?
They certainly feel more hand fettled like precision Schmitz pliers rather than modern Knipex or NWS.

It reminds me of the combination pliers that were included in their "tourist box" which were sold during the 50's and 60's and meant as a on-the-road tool kits voor the VW bug and several other german cars. But I'm not sure how long they produced this style of pliers after they stopped selling the tool kit, so that only narrows it down to being made somewhere between 1950 and 1990. :dunno:

Knipex 38 91 200 question?

Anyone know what the smallest diameter of hose that the spark plug lead gripping pliers from Knipex will grip? Anyone got a pair? The diameter is not listed in their catalogue. I'm looking for something that will grip the fuel return lines on a Mercedes diesel. Thanks!

The 1850 model today is similar but with some changes to the jaw lines and only the component handle is offered

A couple of days ago, my tiny seventy-kilogram alabai tore the door trim with its claws. So I decided to buy a staple gun from myself :D It’s a "heavy duty" model made of aircraft aluminium. You can use staples from 6 to 14 mm and studs, as well as to install the wiring. It's heavy and has a powerful shot.

There is no COO either on the staple gun or on its packaging, but staples are made in China. Such a surprise :bounce:

Monte, I borrowed this from your garage thread, possibly the best soft jaws I've ever seen, who makes them and where can I buy them?
Thanks[/QUOTE]

Why Stanley ?

It's about availability. There is no official Rapid dealer in Ukraine. Prebena dealer sells staples for pneumatic staple guns only. They can supply on demand (I also can), but I needed a staple gun now :dunno:

Moreover, I have an exclusive discount on Stanley  :D

Why Stanley cutting pliers? Because they are made in France. Because they are available in my country, unlike Bost, and they are much cheaper than Facom. They are also qualitative.

By the way, Monte, are they already available in Germany? :D

Got me some new to me machines,
10" pedestal grinder
View media item 794376" by 42" linisher/ 12" disc sander
View media item 79438Both 3 phase, have a suitable VFD in stock so will probably wire up the linisher first, these are both ex school machines so are in pretty good order, the grinder is missing the left side base cover, but that can be replaced with some sheet metal or even a bit of ply, and the linisher needs a mitre fence for its table.

Since I’ve found this website and this thread, I have propably bought more tools within a year than 10 years before that :). It’s not all bad :) some tools have come in necessary use and some in terms good to have and some just got to have alltought you know you don’t need them :). The info you get here is priceless, you don’t find it anywhere else, or at least a DIY guy like me don’t. So keep up the good work guys

Some ebay findings(the price was good):

-Hazet 630 17x19 and 21x23 (have stahlwille stabil ones so why not Hazet too), Hazet 612 17x19, Hazet 803 ph3(really like the handle size and shape. For working with dirty enviroment)
-Stahlwille 435qrn, wanted this for long time, so pulled the trigger :).
-Stahlwille 512 sgqr, my first metal handle german ratchet. Nice satin finish. Now with finnish winter and cold garage, won’t propably use it but in summer defenitly will put in test(by the way, the handle fits well in cheater pipe :lol_hitti
-Alarm screwdrivers. Bought these because they have small handless, sometimes come in handy. New company to me, haven’t heard before. Is it OEM or do some other company make these?

I’m in search for top quality locking pliers since my old usa made vise grips have broken and have only few working pairs left. I need short and long straight nose pliers and welding pliers. What would you recommend? Only made in europe or Japan....

First Zenten Knife for Stahlwille, I like it.

Wiha pull tools made for Mercedes. There is also a black version I think.

Hozan pliers are crafted so well. The grips are AMAZINGLY soft. Both of the blue pliers are for chain links.

Lastly a ton of PB Swiss punches. One single Gedore prybar.

Hazet, Rennsteig, Knipex etc....
Made by Bollmann in Germany.
Or Grip-On from Spain.
Facom also offer a few french made locking pliers as well as Dolex.

My father bought a new tool without notifying me (maybe that´s better :D). But i found it anyway:

I have the Hozan P-221 masterlink pliers like yours. At first I couldn't get them to work and got frustrated, so they got put away and not used for a while. Last year, watched some helpful youtube vids on how to use them, and gave them a 2nd chance. They work great once you get your technique down! So much better than using a slotted screwdriver and stabbing your hand multiple times. I'm pretty sure they weren't that expensive, and yes the grips are quality and fit and finish overall is very good.

I have one of the Bosch mini-chain saws here in the US, bought it off eBay in Germany.
Do you run it with original Bosch Green batteries/charger or did you modify the Bosch Blue batteries or the tool ?

I am looking to buy a few hex bits and specifically a 7mm one for the front struts of the car. The reason is I tried to torque the struts to 60Nm but the hex bit I had it was halfords and could not reach the max torque because I could feel the key slipping. I am between PBSwiss and Wera hex-plus and not sure which is best with regards to fitment.

I have some PBswiss allen keys and when measured them with the digital caliper, Tesa swiss, it seems that 8mm and 6mm are under tolerance of aboit 0.05mm to 5.95mm and 7.95mm. Old Unbrako keys I have are spot on at or about 1/4 at 6.35mm and 8mm.

In your case it's probably easier to get 1/2" (or 3/8") hex sockets that you can use directly on your torque wrench, like this:

I didn't see these pliers before in SAM product range. Probably this reference appeared not so long ago. At least there is no doubt about quality :D

The total length of this Soviet made screwdriver is 47 mm.

H Metalio,

I agree, I used the bit before with 1/4 to 3/8 adapter.

I am just looking for the hex with the best tolerance/ fitment.

I think the problem is the fitment of the bit in the hex and also the strut hex, Bilstein, seemed softer than the original.

Yeah I paid about $13 USD DEC 2017 per pliers with shipping inclusive. I honestly have no idea why I bought them! I don't have a bicycle or similar equipment.

Huckster I noticed that these handles are the same as the new ones that Stanley is currently advertising along with the compound pliers. Do you know if
1. They are going to be available in the US
2. Are any of the other pliers other than the cutter made in France or other than China

1. I don't know. I can ask this question to my manager in the Ukrainian Stanley Black&Decker office, but I'm not sure if they have information about the US market.

2. Combination pliers, cutting pliers, bent long nose pliers, needle-nose pliers and some waterpump pliers (including insulated pliers) FatMax, which are sold in the European market, are made in France now. They are made at Bost factory. Cushion Grip and DynaGrip pliers are still made in China.
