Yes, Monte is an evil genius enticing us to purchase European goods so we keep the financial health of his chosen economic union rosy . . .

His pornographer's skill in photographing tools has befuddled my mind and incited my lust. My screwdriver collection has recently been increased by a Rapidaptor set and 14 Wera drivers, including this little sweetheart:

Once you use a Wera screwdriver with their superior ergonomics; you will want more! :) Beautiful tools; great example of German quality and engineering! :)

Don't buy those Irwin marple chisels as they are no longer made in England , buy these Stanley ones before they ship production to a 3rd world country also.

Man, I was just looking at Marples last year at Sears and thinking of getting some. But I don't use chisels too much, and went for the US-made Craftsman, which for crude work, do fine.

By the way, the caulking gun made in England, I've seen quite a few over here rebranded and they've been an English make. I thought Hilti rebranded an English one at sometime, though I'm probably mistaken.

That Hazet cabinet is ****.

@Blwsin: I posted a photo of the Wurth cart a while ago. Don't remember in what thread. It looked nice and I was surprised it was German made for about $700 or so. (This was last year, according to my rep).

If the quality's good, it's cheaper (and probably) superior to the near equivalent SO cart.

@all:

Thanks for the flowers :) I feel a bit ashamed :D
I will try to continue to make you all happy :D :) ;)

I'm not sure what your source is, regarding the % in savings, but the most recent investment report from my bank mentioned that the Canadians, for the first time, are now behind the Americans when it comes to saving their money. :lol_hitti

It was in the local newspaper, i don´t know this or last year, but they wrote that canadians save like minus 0.3 % (or so) .... :)

When I went on my trip to Europe I hardly came across a store that sold ratcheting wrenches. When I did, it was just the standard length combi style in either non-rev. or reversible.
Perhaps a good percentage of tool users in Europe still view them as being gimmicky tools(?), like how many North Americans viewed them things over the past several years (I think they've slowly gained nation-wide acceptance over here...and hence, the variety is abundant, and with that comes the public's wants/needs to purchase the different types).

yeah mostly the standard ones, sometimes you even find the "Kastar" stlye ones..... Maybe we will see more of them over here in the future too, once the customer tried one he probably wants more, my dealer sells a lot of them, the customer also don´t care if it´s glossy chrome or not (they sell KS-Tools + Gedore ones) as long as it ratches :) They also already sold about 500 of the "4-1" wrenches he said to me :)

Regarding the FG mags...
Gotta remember that they have to carefully select which tool box/mechanics they want to feature. It's only one magazine per year, so they ought to make sure it's entertaining for the reader. Perhaps they just haven't featured that mechanic/tool box that fits that "German-Asian" theme. :)

yeah that´s right - maybe in the next issue we will see some "german-asian" tool boxes :) ;)

These may just take the place in my toolbox set aside for PB Swiss. The fact that they have a square drive makes them so much more useful than a standard screwdriver. These are a "must have" in my book.

Screwdrivers with striking cap are quite practical. Can´t live without them... :)

btw:
There is also a VDE version from SKG but i think it´s a hex and not a square in the handle.

@Hazet:
show us some updated pics of you tool boxes please :)

Monte,

How is this IR impact Gun. Would you recommend it for the general commercial service use around the shop. I was planning to get several 231C but this is also on the short list. I wonder if it would be a better choice since it is only a few dollars more.

Thanks a lot.

I can´t really comment since I´m only a hobby user. No problems so far. I basically bought it because i liked the design and i prefer rubber or plastic handles on air tools since my hands get cold when i use metal handle air tools (i don´t use gloves often). I germany it is advertised with 814 NM (in the US 745 NM (?) ) so that´s equal to the 231C, the 2130 has a free speed of 9500 rpm and the 231C 8000 rpm. The 2130 is also 730 grams lighter (only 1.9 kg). Length, air consumption and noise is about equal. Since you want to get "several" of them maybe i would look for the lower priced ones since they will get the job done too i guess. You always hear good reviews of the 2135TiMAX so maybe this would be another solution.
btw: the 2130 is made in PRC.

It's a slip joint style. The strange look is probably because of the size. The joint was only big on one side, the other side was flat. Worked great for tightening chassis connectors in small boxes.

Thanks !!!

So it's already time to replace my 900s? Ok :) Does these have a new item nr?

Yes it´s time :D ;)
The new screwdrivers with the 1/4" sq. dr. have a part number ending with "S" "917 SPHS" for the PH and "932 AS" for the slotted drivers. The 6 pc. set is called "932 S/6"

It seems the package also look different now with a red underlayed inscription:

Hi Monte...it's been a while !
Is your new Wera chiseldriver made in Germany or in Czech Rep. ?

Hi ! Glad to read that you´re alive !!! ;) The screwdrivers don´t give any COO info. But afaik all hand tools are made in czech rep. since a while

I want to go back to Deutschland for some bratwurst AND SOME "Made in Germany" goodness.... Hazet, Gedore, Klann, Stahlwille.... the mind reels! :)
***** these tools are so expensive and so scarce in the USA! :(

Flowers from me, too! It`s been nice to be able to share our enthusiasm towards tools from around the world. I think the number of pages and the breadth of this thread has surely surpassed your expectations?
If I'm not mistaken, this thread is THE largest thread on GJ history. A  to that.

I said i would stop, but i couldn't. I think i have an addiction! :bounce:
I really like the feel of them, but i can't really make i fair comparison due to limited experience. I haven't seen that many ratcheting wrenches among hobbyists here. Most of the time it's just ratches and sockets.
I bought a set now while they're on introductory sale. €55 for the set. Felt like it would be a shame to wait and pay more. :D

More pics you say? Sure! The white balance is a bit off though...

All the gedore tools look awesome; they are very expensive however... "Gedoretools", can you tell us who the market is in the USA for this brand at this time? Is there a push to try to get into the USA marketplace more? I can see targeted industries like aerospace and wind power! Tell us more about Gedore... here in the USA! :) As if German tools are hard enough to find in the USA (aside from wiha, knipex and to a lesser degree wera); Gedore seem very scarce..... are they trying to change this? Any insight appreciated! :)

Hi Billymade, you're absolutely right. GEDORE USA is targeting Industry, Automotive, Aviation & Wind Power.

The year-end sale has begun, visit www.gedoretools.com for 30% off select tools and 10% off everything else.

I'd say you're targeting ME. :D I just ordered some 7 UR wrenches using the discount code.

EDIT: I'd really really really like to get one of those Gedore bottle openers. If you offered those on your website, everybody from this thread would buy one.

I'll second that!

Thanks :) yeah i never thought that we´ll reach 174 pages :) But i also thought that I´ll never buy so many tools :D But then someone post something i want to have too and then i buy it and then someone post something i want to have too and then i buy it and then..... :D

ps: "Let's see your toolbox" has 202 pages though :)
Maybe i should write the dude from Japan with his collection of adjustable wrenches to join this forum :D Then we could easily beat the 202 pages :D

Crazyness. That's never going to happen to me. ....I hope

wait...... until you see that brand new car or come across a brand new Nepros tool collection which is sold at your local Walmart.... :D :D

We'll just wait and see.

yup :D at the local "Bauhaus" store they already sold 1 or 2 of the "Matador" version it seems..... so that makes 501 or 502...:D. economy is booming the newspaper said..:D....there is the proof.... :D :D

That is, IF there's another issue. Apparently last year was the last one.

WHAT ?????? WHY ?????

Thank you for the extra pics !!! I really like them !! I think i will trade off my old set in favour of a new one.....hhmmm

yes i think so. Just a extra metal piece molded into the handle (i hope so...) or maybe "go-through" blade hence the insulated T-handle..... :) But i don´t think so.... to pay for all the dead people would be too expensive after a while i think :D

€40 for the new set. Thats what i paid for my old ones... But they look nice! A good ratcheting T-handle and you should be able to put a lot of force driving screws.

Bought this Stanley snap-off blade knife. Ok not from the old World (?) i think (Taiwan ?) but it´s pretty nice

Spring supported red plastic piece keeps the blade in this position, no side play, and no "up play". Blade also easily and smoothly extend and retract and knife locks the blade automatically:

AC Hydraulic + Compac (trolley jacks, transmission jacks, hydraulic press) are from Denmark. Carltsø www.carltsoe.com safety tools are from Denmark too, there is Viking saws www.vikingsaw.dk , there is Kabi (oil cans, sprayers, grease guns) www.kabi.dk and Tama www.tamatools.com .

Irwin "Jack" branded hand saws are made in Denmark (don´t know if all though - too lazy to look at all of them :) ) If you go to http://www.irwin.co.uk/allproducts.php and click on "saws" and then "hand saws" then look up the product, click "image download" and then "High resolution". There you can see where it is made:

if you look close you can see the COO:

No, won't buy another set. That money is probably better spent on tools i don't already own...
I've owned quite a few Volvo 240's made in Denmark... not as well screwed together as the swedish versions, imo...
Danish made Volvos? I'm no Volvo guy, but i never heard of that. All i've heard is 3 and 4-series made in Netherlands, and 2,7 and 9-series in Sweden.

no problem although it's generally pretty easy to find a first world manufactured wood saw
all of the spear and jackson (and eclipse) saws still seem to be made in Sheffield , then you also have crown
i bought a stanley saw a couple years back that was made in USA but when i saw it the other week i could not find a COO on the thing so buyer beware on that one.

I've been wanting a Spear & Jackson(links are always appreciated ;) ) as I think it has a laser beam on it  also Stanley is Made in USA with global materials now so don't expect to see a USA anywhere but the packaging. I seen a Stanley folding handsaw today that was marked USA on the handle and Swiss or Swiss made on the blade. :)

There is Lincoln available here since they own 1 or 2 companies (?) in Poland and Italy. I also found stores online that sell Miller here.
More (most) common are german and european manufacturers though like Rehm, EWM, Merkle, Cloos, Jäckle, Lorch, ESS, Mahe, Kjellberg or from the EU: Esab, Cebora, Fronius, Migatronic, Kemppi
There are more available, but these are the most common brands over here.

I can give you the name and adress of spanish importers but i don´t know store locations. There is a member from spain here, maybe he can help you.

Thanks! Monte.for pictures awesome information :beer:Greetings ;)

That black and grey KS cordless drill is also a dead ringer for the new MATCO cordless tools.:headscrat

Probably all from the same company. If you look here: www.techway.com.tw and click on "Li-Ion" and look at their 10,8 Volt tools and the battery packs and charger they look similar to the Hazet/Matco/KS-Tools stuff. The chuck/torque selector of the screwdriver also look similar.

Denmark... wow I can't remember seeing a tool from there before

I'm from Denmark, and I have a few Danish made tools... mostly screwdrivers and such. I'll try and get a few pics!

The Danish made Irwin drills are actually very nicely made, and very effective.
