I'm from Denmark, and I have a few Danish made tools... mostly screwdrivers and such. I'll try and get a few pics!

yes some pics please :)

Whoops, forgot about that thread, but this thread grows at a much faster pace. ...just a matter a time.

yep ;) (page 175 alredy :D)

No kidding! ...I have a soft spot for Nepros stuff.

i know :D

I'm not sure of the exact reason, but my reaction was the same as yours. It seems like he's burnt out...there's a lot of work involved in publishing his books...All the travelling to different tool manufacturers abroad and domestic, the picture taking, and all the writing and editing that goes along with it. It's all too much for him and he needs to take a rest from that so that he can concentrate on his stores, as a boss. He's going into other projects to start something new though. For example, there's his radio broadcasting: Air-G

oh no....
i can travel for him and take pics and write.... :D i only need a translator... :D how about you ??? :D ;)
I like his magazine better than the radio ... :) more pics :D windows media player only show strange "formations" and no tool pics while listening to the radio :D

Monte, or anyone else in EU,
Have any of you played around with the WiLL GripStar pliers? I'm curious as to how well the adjustment works. More parts to break?

no, only with the sibling, the "Orbis Speedy". You can adjust the pliers by just pushing the handle like in this video to open the pliers you don´t have to push a button like in the video, but just open the pliers handle to a certain degree and then you can open the pliers. The Will pliers have 2 rows of teeth on the outside of the joint with "dual pawls", the Orbis pliers one row of teeth with a single "pawl". IIRC the pawl consist of 1 or 2 pieces so thats about the same amount of parts than the traditional "push button" pliers. Here´s a PDF of the Orbis Speedy "Quick-snap" pliers with 10 reasons why you should buy them :D

http://www.orbis-werk.info/de/downloads/opmaak_speedy.pdf

they also make this "Orbis Torqy" similar to the Knipex "Multiple Slip Joint Spanner" but with the function of the "Speedy"

The sparkplug pliers are interesting.

yup :) (i want :D)
Should also make sure not to damage spark plug boots. The regular pliers have quite thin jaws and old spark plug boots are sometimes difficult too remove and have brittle rubber boots...

Hazet offers something like it in long:

Will pliers are very popular in South Africa

They had/have (?) a production in Johannesburg

Harry P. Will South Africa (PTY) LTD

I googled Screwdrivers made in Denmark thinking I would find some brands I hadn't heard of before and it turned up pornographic ones. :lol_hitti

I'd love to travel around the world, go to tool manufacturer's headquarters/plants, take as many photos as allowed, do interviews, and publish it in multiple languages so that the world is given awareness to the existence of the various manufacturers and the premium tools they produce.
We got German and English covered already....what about some other languages. :bounce:

I like how the Orbis joint mechanism is essentially covered, unlike the WiLL GripStar. But I'm happy with my Quattro grips so I don't think I really need it. :D

On a different note, I wonder if Knipex is going to extend the quick adjusting insulated plierswrench to their standard non-insulated versions?

BTW, I still love watching the NWS videos--they're all nicely done....very modern....without some corny infomercial type background music.

Hrmm, in comparison to the Knipex, the Orbis one is quite bulky at the head. I'm not sure if I like that, but the quick adjusting feature could very well be a handy thing. When adjusting the Raptor to the optimal size for any given fastener, where access is somewhat restricted, and your view of the fastener is the side (not the head), it often takes a couple tries to get it right. The first adjustment you make is often either too small or too big.

Yeah, you're right, these pliers usually just have thin jaws, but I guess the larger surface area of these should work better in preventing damage on older plug wires.

So, did anyone take advantage of Gedore's 30% discount code?

@superautobacs, do you know any website where i can find this Will sparkplug plier ?

Sorry, I got it off a Japanese tools store's website.

Ok, I found the link to where I saw it: http://www.worldimporttools.com/staff_blog/blog/2009/12/05.htm

Unfortunately, I can't find it in their online store for some reason.

Here's WiLL's website: http://www.harry-p-will.de/index.htm
Navigating through their website is a bit difficult, especially if you're like me where I can't read German. :D

Here's how to find it:
-click on "Produkte" at the top menu
-find and click "Zündkerzensteckerzangen" (the number 12 in the list)
-then find and click "Zündkerzensteckerzangen" near the top again

Unfortunately I couln't find any dealer networks through their site.
Perhaps Monte can help find you a dealer? :)

@superautobacs, do you know any website where i can find this Will sparkplug plier ?

you could send a email to the e-mail adress at the link superautobacs provided or send a mail to the email addy on this page http://www.orbiswill.de/ and ask for a distributor in france if you need a quick answer. I also can email them if you don´t dare to ask :D ;)

other options:

available in long + short
gr_pic_007097ba.jpg

or Elora, available in 240mm + 300mm
http://www.baukreis.de/produkte/shop.php3?p=EO&s=465

gr_465.jpg

or contact "Tracht Odenthal" www.otra-zangen.de they make the pliers for Elora.

or BGS-Technic

We got German and English covered already....what about some other languages.

yeah that would be pretty cool !! To take a look inside the factories would be already satisfactory !! I think through this forum (+ others) the interested people can learn about all the different brands - maybe even more people than published in a magazine.

I like how the Orbis joint mechanism is essentially covered, unlike the WiLL GripStar.

yes you´ll also find the Orbis pliers more often (rebadged) than the Will pliers. Maybe that´s one reason why.

32969pix300.jpg

But I'm happy with my Quattro grips so I don't think I really need it.

not ? come on !! :D

On a different note, I wonder if Knipex is going to extend the quick adjusting insulated plierswrench to their standard non-insulated versions?

The insulated Cobra ? I asked the dude at the Hardware fair but he said most likely not because the Cobras are advertised like "set and forget" with a adjustment which can´t accidentally be changed.

BTW, I still love watching the NWS videos--they're all nicely done....very modern....without some corny infomercial type background music.

A voice is missing then they could show it on a shopping channel in TV :D

btw: videos....: Wiha Quick Fix but the new version....fully automatic:

yes i think so too. Already on my wish list now :)

Okay so I just wanted to say thanks to Monte for his recommendations. I ended up going with the felo bit holding driver. When I carry around a bag of tools I like to have a set of drivers with the most common bits such as some phillips and slotted but I also have a bit organizer case which has torx, hex, square etc which I can use with my bit holding driver should the need arise. That way I don't have to carry around like 50 drivers and I can still do pretty much everything I need to. I also wanted a bit holding driver so that I could 'test' how how I like the handle of a particular brand before investing in a whole set of that brand/style. I am very happy with the Felo driver and will probably end up buying the whole 550 set. I just hope they are really durable... what do you think monte? Are they one of the most durable or should I go with one of the other brands as an impact driver set?

Also, I got a few chances to try out my relatively new Knipex Pliers-wrench and I think it's great... the cobra with the ergo grip is next on my list. Knipex and Channellock are my favorite brands of pliers. :)

P.S. > sorry if these two items have already been pictured in this thread... I just meant it to be a thank-you for Monte.

@ Bhae Nice Proxxons! :) I'm getting the top one for Christmas. :) :) :)

@ epiphany They are both made in Luxembourg but the tools aren't marked for some reason :dunno: and the box usually says so in very fine writing(or at least the proxxon tools I seen at Woodcraft do.)

Servus Monte ! Many months ago i've e-mailed WILL twice to ask them for their rep./dealer in France. But they never answered. I'll try to contact them again hoping for an answer, otherwise i'll ask you to be so kind to do it for me in German. Maybe you'll be more lucky. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the info !!! ps: is there a swedish tool forum ?

Not that i know of. There is tool subforums on some motor/DIY/home improvement forums, but none where i have found a tool interest (No expertise like yours to be found :D)

Regarding spark boot pullers, do you know any for cramped spaces? The beetle don't have a lot of space since the spark plugs is to the sides.

Yeah, that's true. This forum/thread is a great source/reference for learning about tools from around the world. I still think that it'll be nice if the 6 magazines could be translated into other languages.

What about the Rothenberger Ro-Grip type? I saw them when I was tool shopping in Paris. I guess it's more similar to the Knipex SmartGrip:

Some are made in Germany (Strike screwdrivers). Most of their tools are made in the Czech Republic. They are very nice tools.

I have a rebranded Felo 550/Ergonic set from "Wurth", don´t own it that long (also only DIY use) but its good. I prefer the handle design from Felo over others like Wera so i would not hesitate to buy the 550 set.

no problem, the bit holder not at all iirc and the pliers wrench not often enough !! :D ;) Pretty cool pliers....

"New Beetle" or old "bug" ?? :)

I´ll mail the idea to Knipex....

Regarding Proxxon:
I once mailed Proxxon and asked where the tools are made:
The answer:

"It is right what your dealer told you (hand tools are from Taiwan) But the tools are made from our steel (special alloy) with our dies only made for us (patented design) in the worlds largest factory for sockets + parts. The company also produce for a lot other name brand tool companies.

The electric tools and lathes are made in Wecker/Luxemburg 35 km from the HQ in Niersbach (Germany). In germany they produce parts which are made on lathes and milling machines for the electric tools , and the milling machines

I spotted some "Made in Slovakia" Craftsman clamps at Sears. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

I couldn't find any COO at all on the Facom 440 wrenches I just got in the mail. Nothing. Nada. Not even in fine print on the back of the cardboard underneath the new UPC sticker. I'll just assume they weren't made in a country at all, but in outer space. :)

I'd also like to say that I prefer the Felo over the Wera handles, especially in the larger handle sizes. I found out that the high ridge on the Wera handle would dig in to the palm during high-torque useage; the ridge on a Felo handle is smoother and less pronounced, which equates to a more comfortable fit for my hand.

Yeah, something tells me that Unior had them from before too, but I never looked into the features of it until you posted the video link to the Wiha QuickFix. Seeing the QuickFix reminded me of the Unior one.
I don't need another one, but I sure would like to have another one. :D

I´ll mail the idea to Knipex....

Make sure we both a cut in the deal if they produce it. :D ;)

Do you think this is a good ratchet? Planning to get one because its available locally to me. Probably around $50.

75-tooth is interesting. I wonder where the internals are made? Regardless, I'd give it a try; make sure you report back. :)

@Aspera,

Interesting information regarding the clamps at Sears. Are they C or F type clamps...or? Do you have a link?

When the Facom 440 was announced into the market, coincidentally (or was it? :headscrat), Toptul announced their own release of the new wrenches. They looked all too similar and that led me to think that they were produced in Taiwan. I think Alfajuj, a member from Taiwan, even said that....IIRC, I think he may have been the one who informed us here. I may be wrong...it was information from over an year ago or more. There's been a few threads that touched this subject.

the only info i have is what i posted above.

Never saw Unior tools in my city also don´t know anybody here who owns them - so i don´t know. The member "Chreese" has a couple of Unior tools.
But 50$ sounds quite expensive

Dremel clamps like this

http://uk.farnell.com/dremel/2615-2505-ja/bar-clamp/dp/1633941?Ntt=2615+2505

and this

http://uk.farnell.com/dremel/2615-2520-ja/plier-grip-50mm/dp/1633942?Ntt=2615+2520

are from slovakia too

Regarding ultimategarage.com they´re from czech republic, i once called the Facom/Stanley customer service in germany and the lady said Taiwan as COO. IIRC the member "Reversegear" from Taiwan once said that they´re from Taiwan. If you really really really want to know where they´re made you could contact either www.stanleyblackanddecker.com or since i think Facom is not officially offered in the US (??) you could contact Facom in the UK http://www.facom-tools.co.uk/contact_us.php since they speak english too :D ;)

I also prefer the Felos because of the flat parts in the handle. Better imho for "overhead" driving like in the pic because the fingers have a better grip also in tight situations were you sometimes only can turn the driver with the fingertips.

Oh, what about all the German magazines? You read/write English and German.

:D
which german magazines ??????? :D

I don't need another one, but I sure would like to have another one.

The other older Wiha water pump pliers also were supplied by NWS so i think they never made their own, until now in the new Wiha design (ugly). Wiha also offer only 1 size and Unior 2 sizes.

Make sure we both a cut in the deal if they produce it.

ok :D But i doubt that they spend something... We´ll see ;)

Gedore Tools had a booth at this year's AAPEX show in Vegas. I picked up a catalog. Gedore tools are now available in the US at www.gedoretools.com
You can also sign up for their newsletter and other stuff. There is also a special currently going on where select tools are 30% off and all others are 10% off through 12/31/10. The tools aren't cheap but, if you're a diehard German tool fan here's your chance to get some Gedore.

It's still strange to see a guy that's surrounded by the best tools in the world and fine German cars working on a Monte Carlo. Just...why? What's the finished product going to look like? I don't see the attraction. It must just be the Superman Effect.

:)
Because i was told USA #1 !! :D ;) So i thought i get me one of their cars :D ;) j/k No because i like the style/design. A car for me must have a classic "3 box design" with a long hood and a long trunk. I also prefer RWD, V8 and the simplicity of the construction of the "old style" cars with full frame. So even i can work on them with just a basic hand tool set. The finished product should somehow look like this. Maybe without the graphics. But for this, these cars are optimal.

I think Monte needs a Quattro! :D

:D lol . We always had and have Audis in the household since my father always had one (no quattro though). Currently he owns a 2008 Audi A4 Avant. So i think 1 Audi per household is enough :)

Monte, have you ever tried the tools they sell at you're local LIDL store?

no luckily not :D My father owns several tools from "Aldi" but barely use tools anymore. One dude from our hobby-garage recently bought the pictured "Powerfix" (i think Lidl ?) socket set with 1/2" and 1/4" sockets/ratchets. I will ask him how he likes the tools and look how the tools will hold up (esp. the bits + bit sockets). But for the price you can´t go wrong, a 1/4" socket set with like 40 tools was recently for sale at the Aldi store for 19,95€....

ps: just really needed my mini bit ratchet for the first time. Only tool which fits there to remove the speakers from the dashboard of this Cadillac:

And from the flea market this Kaeser air angle grinder for 5 bucks:
