Do you have some close up pics of the Garant torque wrench handle and the Walter wrenches ?

No Problem. Let's start with the Garant handles first:

and compare them with the budget version of a Hazet torque wrench:

p1030577t.jpg

The Garant are very precise to adjust. You see the type of plastic seems to be the same as on the Hazet, just a different color. So far I'm really happy I got them. Will now look for a Stahlwille 3/8" head plus 13, 17, 22 mm box ends. Then I can even sell my Craftsman.

Lets see what Walter has to say. First two box ends 12/13 and 16/17:

p1030581z.jpg

p1030582d.jpg

Then some open box pics. It's a battle between Walter and Gedore. Both 16/17:

p1030587r.jpg

p1030588s.jpg

p1030584u.jpg

Due to the slime handle and better feels I usually grab the Gedore although it shows already some wear. Overall Walter is just a regular German tool. Nothing special,I see them in line with Elora, Format, Elofort and some Taiwan brands. Decently priced but not as refined as Wille, Hazet, Gedore.

After falling that link I noticed the old Pentel mech pencils I used to use in school suddenly are valuable. So I picked this up today for $4.65 with tax.

The black one I've had since around 2000, oddly enough I wasn't allowed to use it in drafting. :headscrat I switched out the internals with a frends pencil and it uses 0.9mm lead. :)

Found this tiny knife from "Robi Klaas" in my desk:

Nice knife, I used to be into knives till I found this thread now I don't have the money for that hobby...

I lurk on this board all the time, but came upon this thread today and just had to sign up!

Does anyone know where these Proxxon offset wrenches are built

Welcome to GJ! :)

The box end wrench shows the sign of C. Walter. I bought both sets 15 years ago from the same dealer, so I think the open end are also C. Walter, although the sign is missing. Anyway, finish and forging tells me they are both 'originals' not Chinese copy Cats from the Austrian Walter.

The Garant torque wrenches were sold as used parts on ebay. It looks like the 40-200 is virtually new, while the 20-120Nm was put in action.

I thought Komelon was a Korean brand , at least the wind up tapes you find on building sites are made in Korea.

Garant is a brand of the Hoffmann group, a large tool dealer. Hazet manufactures several tools that are branded Garant. This does not mean that these tools have the same quality as Hazet, but they do not have to be worse.

with that kind of attitude i'm not sure that guy sells much stuff... :wtf:

a better answer might have been something along those lines:

<< We do not actually sell the requested items in the US currently but i'm going to look into it and see if we can satisfy your craving for fine german tools instead of letting you hang dry and go buy *other brands* somewhere else. Stay tuned for our expanding line of german-made pliers sold in the US! >>

I’m the KNIPEX sales manager for your area. KNIPEX is the parent company of ORBIS and is distributed in North America. I have listed our website below and made suggestions for KNIPEX pliers the closely match what you are looking for. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's actually made by Norbar, but this is the classic Britool torque wrench style. I've seen a couple cheap copies that were similar, but as far as i know there weren't any Norbars made in this style. (could be wrong.)

Not bad for £142, eh? :)

Good Wrench. The company had all 3 sizes in use when I served my time.

I never seen a Norbar with a fixed head like that .. I have a nice little G'Norbar 3/8 driver .. only does 20nm .. Bless it :bounce:

When i was in college they had one there. Must've been tough to survive our class and all the other idiots that went through that place!

I have a little 3/8" Norbar, 8-50nm. Could do with one of those 1-20nm ones though. I have a few (now obsolete) Norbar slimlines, which are great.

Interesting, elaborate please.

If you search the Hoffman website/catalog you can find lots of indications where the Garant brand sources its tools. Since Hoffman is a industrial supplier and Garant is rated as one of their top brands, one can be sure to get high quality stuff for a reasonable price. Used tools are sold pretty cheap on ebay, since the lack the original brand names. If you are looking for e.g. Stahlwille wrenches but can't afford the 'stamp', Garant would be an alternative. Same seems to be true for the torque wrenches.

Maybe Monte knows, where they source their pliers and screwdrivers from.

Interresting, elaborate please.

Well there are several large tool dealers here in Germany that sell tools under their own brand name. E.g. Garant is the brand of the Hoffmann group. They have these tools manufactured by several companies and Hazet is one of them. These are not rebadged Hazet tools, but every customer has his own specification. Therefore these tools can be better, equal or lesser in quality than the Hazet equivalent. So there can be differences in design only, but also in technical specification.

I can concur on the quality of all Hoffmann brands/tools.

You will have to look at the tools itself to guess who is the mfg. I've seen the pliers being very similar to knipex and wiha, screwdrivers from wiha, wera, pbswiss. But it can variate. E.g. "bankschraubendreher" or (bigger sizes) screwdrivers can be from wera, were as other series of screwdrivers can be from pbswiss.

Tools like wrenches etc. used to be made by Stahlwille, but i've seen (original marked) Hazet tools (and Garant branded torque wrenches) being added somewhere around 2007/2008(?). Rumor has it that Hoffmann got into a bit of an discussion with Stahlwille (probably about money/pricing, what else..?), and added Hazet to there lineup in an attempt to put some commercial pressure on Stahwille. No loss to the customer in my opinion.

As a sidenote, I find it very interesting that private persons seem to be able to order with Hoffmann, as recently German residents can as well.
In Belgium and the Netherlands, we cannot.

If at all possible, try and find an industrial client who orders from them, and try to order thru the industrial client. The discount you can get as a good (high volume)customer is unsurpassed.
Prices of those high quality german tools suddenly drop to asian levels. A tool addicts dream, as good as ***, without the physical strain.
