I was not aware this company is still alive, but they are:
http://www.saltus-werk.de/
I could not find any catalogs on their page, but found a couple here:
http://www.douwes.nl/montage/saltus-h.htm

here is a product overview:
http://www.saltus-werk.de/cgi-bin/t...k&wkid=23296944277689716&rub1=HANDTOOLS RANGE

Also i need montepedia ;)
This Reca set... import or Germany?
View media item 28805:)
Sorry for the bad quality, it's from the Reca catalog, i couldn't find a better one.:dunno:
sorry can´t see any picture ??

Monte, what do you think about Saltus tools? Are they German made? I'm interested in socket sets... Thanks...
Saltus is a professional brand but very rare.....
Unfortunately there is no Saltus store in my city, so i don´t know... but it seems most tools are made here....the tools i see on the flea market are all marked "Germany" and Ebay pics show mostly "Germany" too.... there are different ratchets.... i think the one with the green handle is from Germany:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Hebelumschal...n_Heimwerker_Handwerkzeug&hash=item3cc90cee5e
i don´t know about this one....: ?

Hi Zaboravi & Monte, I can see from the Saltus website, that they are only appr. 100 employees at their factory...they are specialized in torque wrenches and electronic torque systems. Since it requires some big, raw capacity to drop forge and brush, chrome and finish tools like wrenches, pliers and screwdrivers, my guess would be, that these "ordinary hand tools" are made elsewhere. But where - and by whom?:dunno:

i think the products they make are torque wrenches, wrenches and socketry. The rest seems to be bought elsewhere like their screwdrivers which are from Witte...other tool companies do that too... Elora, Matador, WGB, Padre.... most of them don´t have many employees too i think.....Padre has below 100 employees...(75)

i think "Wezag" made them (coo: Germany), but i don´t know if they still make locking pliers since they´re gone from their HP: www.wezag.de

the older Wezag sites from 2012 and 2011 etc. still show at least one pair of locking pliers on their page: http://web.archive.org/web/20111007080556/http://www.wezag.de/content/view/44/49/lang,de_DE/

Not saying they make everything they sell, but you'd be surprised at how much 100 employees can actually manufacture.

For example, Ideal-tek (Swiss tweezer & cutter manufacturer), has 43 employees total (30 of them doing the actual manufacturing; other 13 are management, office, and warehouse staff), and they make products primarily as an ODM (all of Lindstrom's tweezers for example, and their cutters = Lindstrom's EX line).

It's unfortunate that you like the teal green as it's the result of the photo being taken in very mixed light since I don't feel like setting up a tripod lol. They're Stahlwille boxes, so they're that Stahlwille green (which is about as true a green as I've ever seen).

I do miss when Beta was in the US. They had great prices on good tools. That said, they aren't as good as the German brands I've since adopted. Beta is back in the US again though, which is nice (pegasus racing is selling them now). I do have a 3/8" drive Beta set too, but a lot of it has been worn from abuse, and it sits in a large Bucket Boss bag with a bunch of other random tools. That said, the Beta torque wrenches are amazing. Cheapest way to get Norbar torque wrenches.

I like that colour, because I have a teal green coloured toolbox myself. :D

Beta, as a whole, is a pretty cool brand with a lot history. They certainly take brand image seriously....I can probably outfit myself with full Beta clothing, from head to toe.

It's interesting to know that Pegasus Racing sells them. Amazon had a pretty good selection of Beta tools a couple years ago with great prices. Toolboxes were on sale for 50%+. Not so much is offered now, I think.

Where did you get your Beta-branded Norbar from? Nobody ever talks about Norbar here for some reason, despite them being the largest, and well respected torque wrench manufacturer in Europe. :dunno:

Amazon got the Beta stuff when Procare Stores, who was the Beta distributor in the US, failed, hence the huge markdowns. I think I paid around $100 on Amazon for that 1/4" drive set which I bought after Procare closed up. I got my Beta-branded Norbar from Procare. I know Pegasus is selling Beta 606 torque wrenches. I don't know for sure if those are Norbar. I know the 666 are though. Sometime in the next couple of weeks my Beta torque wrenches are going on a tester. It will be interesting to see how they've held up after 7 or so years without calibration (whoops). Happily, Norbar will sell direct in the US (well, they'll direct you to a local dealer, but if you live in a state that has none they'll sell directly to you), and the prices are pretty competitive. I'll be buying a Norbar in the next couple of months (right now my largest only torque wrench only goes to 200Nm, and I'll be getting one that goes to 330Nm).

Hey Marlin, sweet box! I'm in the market for one as well just don't know which brand. It's going into my trunk...

I've seen one that's made by Heyco/Heynen and I've seen ones with 7 trays as well.
So far I've seen ones made by Allit, Ironside, Laser, Stahlwille, Elora, Heyco, Beta, Facom, KTC, Hazet, Gedore, and maybe a few more I forgot.

So many choices...

I have heard but not confirmed that the Beta box is made in Taiwan. Otherwise I love the color. I looked at Hazet, Gedore, and Stahlwille. To me Stahlwille and Hazet are the same pretty much but the Stahlwille is cheaper. The Gedore does seem to better than the other two, but its a lot more expensive. Where did you see a 7 tray?

My first (hopefully of many more to come) tools from the 'Old World".

Why are these made in the Czech Rep though? Thought they would say made in Germany.

I realize these are the cheaper line Wera offers, just somewhat surprised. I wanted hard plastic handles, don't care for colored handles on my screw drivers either which is why I opted for these.

I'm planning on putting the box in my trunk but don't know if that would be a good idea... I'm sure there are solutions, I need to figure it out. I was thinking plastic maybe?

Marlin, do you have any wrench recommendations?

Any idea where that Laser box is made? I have my doubts about a 7 tray box that is close to a pound lighter than my 5 tray box (and more than a pound lighter than a Gedore 5 tray). The problem with the tool box in the trunk is unless you're in an old Mercedes with the side cubbies, it will just end up banging around. For a car kit I'd just get a tool roll and velcro it down or something.

I have both Hazet 600N wrenches and Stahlwille Type 15 (with a couple of Type 13 and 14 mixed in...the 14 and 15 are very similar. 15 is discontinued and I think 14 is probably better anyway). I use the Hazet as my primary set, and the Stahlwille for when I need an open end that is narrow (not thin, but narrow). Oh, and I have stubby Gedore Type 7 reversible ratcheting wrench. Gedore is your only option among the three for stubby wrenches.

I think all the high end German wrenches are good, and it comes down to what dimensions you need. That said, I use the Hazet as my primary because they're the thickest, and the bolt/nut will give up before the tool does (and thicker head spreads the force, but too think a head, like I've seen on Mac, won't fit anywhere). I think the 600N, Gedore 1B, and Stahlwille 14 are good general use sets, and then as needed I'd get a Stahlwille 13 or Gedore 7 for special situations where you need something thin. One thing I don't think people pay attention to enough is whether a wrench is Type A or Type B (look at the closed end) and which their preference is.

Ah, I thought they were German, ok makes sense now. Still learning...

Wera is germany and WAS german made...but a couple of years ago they moved the plant to czech...because the employes there are much cheaper...

Same issue like in the usa with plants which move to china...

But Felo is (so far I know) 100% Made in germany

I believe the metal as well, it doesn't grip as well anymore... slips constantly. Here is another picture...

Had that problem with all Walter Schröder screwdrivers...but never with Felo.
What I noticed, there seem to be 2 different Phillips screws out there I don't mean PZ.

Show us the screw heas please.

Oh, no, I put a question mark because I don't know the answer. I know it's a German company, but everything I've bought from them was made in the Czech Republic.

Ok, thanks for the clarification, so I wasn't that far off ha. So is the quality considered to be of the same quality as they were before?

Would you recommend the Gedore 7's for suspension work? I like the idea of a thin wrench but I'm not too sure anymore...

Felo drivers are 100% germany, but some of there other stuff are made in other countries as well. Like their ratchets.

I'm sure they'd be fine, but I've always viewed the ultra thin ones as being for special circumstances. All the good German wrenches are pretty thin in the first place. It's pretty rare that I can't fit a Hazet (which appears to be dimensionally similar to the 1B), but every now and then you need that special one. At the end of the day, if you work on cars a lot you need duplicates of certain sizes, so you'll end up with both eventually anyway lol.

Would the Gedore XL's be overkill as a standard go to set? lol.

So many wrenches... hard to choose. I'm pretty much going to use it as my go to set.

I think the XL will be too long in some situations, particularly inside a wheel well. I have a 2013/2014 Gedore catalog here, and I think it's telling that Gedore calls the 1B "The strong all-rounder" and the 7 "Slim line" (The XL just seems offensive "long and extra strong." :bounce: )

Whatever you get, don't make a ratcheting set your go-to because there are plenty of places where the closed end of one of those simply won't fit.
