@Monte: thanks for the add'l info on the abrasives. What are you recommending for other types of abrasives? Like grinding and cutting wheels for the Metabo 4-1/2"?

Thanks All. Yup the handle on the York is tweaked slightly (although it still slides freely), and it has plenty of battle scars, so it was never going to be pristine. It was more an exercise in getting rid of the awful silver paint; It's 3" little brother isn't going to get any attention apart from a bit of a clean-up.

The original colour of the vice was red - probably not too far from the colour it is now. As mentioned the red is actually darker than it looks in the pic (and it's still not dry there)- I used the same paint as in this grinder refurb:

Only in terms of it's battered appearance I'm afraid. It's only a 4" vice, but it looks large next to the 3" green version.

Yeah... When ordering, didn't notice the difference. Thought they'd be regular tools. Is there a difference besides corrosion resistant? I noticed the sockets don't stay that color after exposed to the sun.

I also noticed the flank drive on the Gedore sockets are much less than other brands. Haven't used them yet, the finish is rough. The knurling is nice though. I don't know how good Baldur pullers are compared to Kukko but I guess I'll find out. :D

I don't know about differences other than corrosion resistant and the higher price. I think that only the coating differs. Αt least in the catalog there is not a reference to different process during manufacture or different alloy.

Yep the finish to all gedore are rough. If you find a flashy gedore then it's not a gedore.

The bigger the flank drive the more the free play. Also the flank drive is not so important as it is in the double hexagon. In hexagon socket if the fitment is right, it's enough. But don't worry since the fitment is right and the flank drive is there.

The baldur pullers is as good as kukko.

I bought everything on sale... got everything for about 130 dollars. :D

Thought I'd get them since I needed pullers, and wanted to try Gedore out... the finish doesn't bother me... let's see if they can hold up to the stress I'm going to put these sockets through. :bounce:

If they are not made from different alloy than mine, they will hold up very well. :)

I use cutting discs/grinding wheels from various manufacturers like "Dronco", "Rhodius", Metabo, Pferd, Klingspor..... My flap wheels are from "Eisenblätter", "Tyrolit" and "Lukas". My fiber discs are from VSM. The surface conditioning discs and cleaning discs are from 3M (the blue and purple ones) I also use Norton and Pferd cleaning discs which work good too but for some tasks the 3M blue discs are better because they are softer so they are better for certain tasks, while for rust removal the black ones from Norton or the purple 3M´s work good.

Nice clothes Monte! What brand is that belt? I was wondering why clothes cost so much in Germany? I was looking at some stuff and a jacket was 150 euro! Clothes cost more than tools!

I dunno...I guess they can charge the prices....If you want a "Levi´s" jeans you simply have to pay the €79.95....and it works it seems.... if you don´t want you can buy a no-name jeans for €9.95 of course... depends on what you want...but the big brand names and everything what is "in" is always expensive...Hollister, Abercrombie.... "La Coste" polo shirt ?? ...€ 89.95...:shocking: The funny thing is if you realize where the products are made and if you see a TV-report about how much these clothes are to make....like $3 for a pair of jeans.....

One stand (same as the green one) has been stripped of paint, and I've started stripping paind from the large Leinen, but the wire cup doesn't reach into some of the tighter spots so I'm thinking of giving electrolysis a try. The other vice is also a Leinen (smaller one) but it hasn't been delivered yet.

The other two grinders are both Elliotts - a 6" and a 7". Those and the other stand will be the same Reseda green as the one I;ve just done. I'm thinking that colour for the Leinens as well.

I also have two machine vices, but I haven't seriously considered starting on those yet. :wtf:

Are the tips completely flat or do they look like this? The bits I know aren't completely flat, but are the screwdrivers the same way?
