@Alfajuj - well, I´m on it and thanks for the comparison. Good to know for the future. It may take a while but we´ll look at the old drawings. By the way - the 450 spanners exist since 1933 and the title of the 1950´s catalog didn´t show that underlining.

Pre war they made different stuff to prevent for rust such as cadmium plated (better not lick it!), nickel plated, fine black, atrament-white, fine grey mottled and certainly chromed.

@CanUK - you may look the toolkits up here: http://www.hazet.de/unternehmen/historische-dokumente/

The "big" HAZET lettering shows that it was made after 1965. Your size of 13x15 was in the special toolkit for VW No. 2500 to find for example in the 1972 catalog on site 112.

Berner tools

Has anyone dealt with BERNER tools so far? http://shop.berner.eu/berner/de/start

Some of their power tool range seems to resemble DeWalt to a good extent (paint scheme differes), batteries are interchangeable and some of the stuff is even made in Czech Republic where DeWalt has a factory from what I know.
Are we talking here about rebadged Dewalt items/is this a budget brand of Dewalt?

Hi Marcone,
Berner is a "one stop" supplier for the car and mechanical industry: Tools, power tools, spray products, bolts and nuts...so yes, some of their tools could be customized DeWalts. Another company with the same idea is Würth.

I think berner cordless tools today is rebadged dewalt + milwaukee .I have also seen rebadged bosch cordless, corded tools,a few years ago.

good question.... when i tried the Festool with electronic clutch the tool immediatly stopped with a "beep" sound when the torque was reached. Because of the electronics i think they can stop the tool pretty fast and also make sure the torque is always the same. Here´s what Metabo writes:
http://www.metabo.com/LTX-BRUSHLESS-Revolutionary-powerful-and-precise.49175.0.html

The festool electronic clutch works with high speed also ,Did you test that? danke!
Seems that the new metabo reduce the speed automatically if you use torque clutch. How fein works..? A traditional mechanical clutch can be better when drilling self-drilling screws or metal fastening screws. I'd like to see how it works :)

Hello 2oolhound
Sorry to dig up something from a long while ago, but would you show the pages of that catalog which show the 600 combination wrenches? What year is that catalog?

with lower torque the Festool drills also lower the speed.

Anyone here familiar with Prebena air compressors? I ask here since the name seems to be "German" brand name.

This one here is on sale in local hardware store:
http://www.prebena.de/article/produkte/13-kompressoren/308-premo-400
Specs/price ratio is pretty good.

Opinions? :headscrat
i think what they produce are staplers. The compressors are probably from Italy. I´ll check that.

Thank you!

It's a bonus if they actually produce something. I thought they were just putting their label on stuff produced by our good friends in China. :headscrat :D

I've been looking and looking and looking for for years for an old trinamic handle Hazet 3/8 spinner 8812.
They seem to be very rare.
hazet8812.jpg

I got so fed up with looking that I decided to make my own!
DSC01029.JPG

The one on the top is an 8812U
The one on the bottom is my creation.

I got the idea from the set of nut drivers I have.
I noticed that the 8mm handle is the right size.
It was very traumatic getting the old shaft out:
DSC01074.JPG

You can see that the tang is quite a bit wider than the shaft. It took some extreme force to get it out. The plastic material was resilient enough to survive the process with only a white line at the seam.

Then I took a donor 3/8 extension (I didn't use Hazet, I used Force brand)
I cut it off and turned the inside portion down on a lathe.
Then I drilled out the handle about 1 mm smaller than the diameter of the extension.

When done I put the handle in hot water and pressed the extension in with a hydraulic press.
Presto!
It almost looks like the real thing!
I do feel kind of guilty about destroying a nut driver though...Those are out of production and are becoming rare too..

Never heard of "Bulit"....WFR is from east germany/GDR. "WFR Radebeul" was the company name.

i checked out a couple of compressors but not the one you posted. The higher priced one (899.-) had some italian parts (cable, hose, pressure regulator) and a german Condor pressure switch. The cover for the motor ventilator said "Zheng Li" or something like that.....the cheaper compressor were made with chinese cable and no-name parts...All had no-name air couplers which usually are not that good. No indicator who made the electric motor and compressor itself as well as the tank.... I´m not that impressed but well the cheapest one was around 179.- Euro..... I personally would try to check out the compressors offline and see if you can find some other brands like Aircraft or Schneider or manufacturers like www.Fiac.it , www.Abac.it, www.finicompressors.it, www.Kaeser.de, www.compair.com, www.alup.com, www.boge.com

nice job !
What i like about the german spinner handles and extensions though is the "stop" feature. The Force extension "flows" from the square into the round shaft while Hazet and others have a "stopper" between the square and the round shaft.

Yeah, I know what you mean...
I thought I could squeak by because the newer 8812U doesn't have the stop. But the old 8812 did...
Now I think I'm going to have to do it all over again. The only problem is, when I try to turn a Hazet extension down on a lathe, I'm afraid it will burn up the cutting tool or snap the tool stock off and spit it across the room! :bounce:

You need to use the correct tool for turning, then it is no problem.

I went to the store and inspected the compressor ; the frame and tanks seem ok but the pump and all air components don't look to convincing. I saw another smaller compressor (one cyl instead of v2) with very similar cylinder and head and that one was labeled :made in PRC.

Thanks for the info and the links.

Need to show off some of my recent purchases:p

couple of NOS Facom France screwdrivers (still in their packets :) )

and I was at a vintage vehicle/steam rally near me today ,and got this little lot from the autojumble

(there are a couple of USA made Ridgid tools in that picture too)

Some Metric Acesa spanners and an adjustable wrench (oddly the 17mm spanner isn't marked with a size :lol_hitti ) a Palmera 20/22spanner, new Spid/Sit wire brush (Italian made) a Gedore 1/2 spanner, and Dowidat 22mm socket.

British made Stanley tape measure, small tap holder, and a pair of Gilbow sheet metal sheers, which despite a bit of surface rust and chips in the paint appear to have never been used
y
ou cant see it well in the picture but also got a Japanese made 5/8ths spanner by ETC industry (friend of mine has some of these too) not heard of this brand before :dunno:

(sorry for the poor pictures, have more to upload and will post better ones then)

lastly for now is a new one for me, made in Japan 'Jupiter' Philips screwdriver, nice little thing with a through tang and acetate handle, I cant seem to find any info on the company though.

There was a LOT more interesting stuff including old Britool, Gordon, Elora spanners, piles of old taps and dies and loads of vintage tools etc. sadly i didn't have much cash on me.. though that may have been a good thing :lol_hitti a lot of the tools were also imperial/whitworth etc which aren't as useful to me as my interest (and job) is in European and more modern vehicles.

The Jupiter brand screwdriver looks an awful lot like the 215-P series Sunflag brand JIS screwdrivers. You can see the Sunflag catalog page here.
http://www.sunflag.co.jp/english/products/page_date/page11.html#215-P

Post 25 in this thread on GarageJournal also has a picture of one of the sunflag crossheads.

Picked this the other day at the steam show. Couldn't resist it. Especially at the absurd price of $1.00.

I'm sure they've been discussed in one of the Japanese tool threads here. I saw one at a local car boot last weekend, but it was a larger A/F size that I don't think would have been useful (like 1 1/16" or something), but I still struggled to leave it as it was a really nice spanner with a very solid feel.

Job done! Hurting knuckles and grease in the face...That´s the point where it takes some real stamina to clean the tools, and not just walk to the cozy place in front of the TV, with a cold beer (or a warm cup of coffee, if you´ve got a cold garage)

I have a few AF-size ETC brand spanners (made in Japan). But they are very old. Recently i have only seen the ETC brand as cheap tools in swedish supermarkets (with the same logotype, but ****, made in China). A quick search on the net didn´t reveal much of interest, very odd. :dunno:

Elora 770 and Saltus 5219 1/2" drive ratchets :D

I love the Elora one, really nice weight and feel to it, not sure what the reason for female 1/2' square on the opposite side of the drive is though :dunno:

Saltus one is nicely made too, and green (my favorite color)

on the look out for a matching 3/8 Saltus one as i mainly use 3/8 tools (there is on one ebay atm)

Just curious, is Coke made with sugar or HFCS over there ?
I believe in Belgium it's sugar, but I don't know what it is in any other country.

A bit OT, but I will give it a shot...
Since Europe is a sugar beet area, Coke, Pepsi and local soft drinks are all with sugar. Sugar beet sugar, that is. ;) Even our marshmallows are made with sugar (and gelatine). No corn syrup...
