Node105,

Nice PB Swiss goodies.

I took photos of these the other day...cross-handle screwies:

I thought the Phillips would be useful, but it turns out that the flat head had more uses. In the couple years I've had them, I haven't even touched the pair of Phillips. The flat head has come into use a few times though.

The best offset flat head screwdriver, IMO:

I haven't used it yet, but know of a perfect place to use it in the house.

Received these two "Champion" driver sets, one metric, one standard (the standard is old school) and I couldn't be happier!
When I first became aware of these driver sets from "Champion", a German company that fellow GJ member 'Formel1' had first posted this past September, here: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3361606#post3361606 I just knew that I had to get a set for myself! So with some help from Mr. Formel1 he hooked me up with a couple of sellers from Ebay in Germany and well as you can see I was able to purchase both sets, metric and standard. One set totalled, including shipping, came out to $62.43 and the other came out to $40.68 including shipping. Very satisfied indeed to say the least! I'd like to give a 'special thanks' to GJ member Formel1 for helping me out!
As I mentioned, when I first saw these I started to inquire about them and I find that 'Champion' still made the set in "metric" but not in standard. So I asked another GJ member if they could arrange to have it purchased and shipped to me but after he told me the told price of $180.00 bucks, and this was just for (1) one set (metric) I was stunned! I knew that it would cost 'some $$' but not that far fetched in value! So I asked if the price could possibly be lower and the least that he would do it was for $140.00! To me that's still to damn much for just one set! So that's when GJ member Formel1 hooked me up and well now I've got both sets, metric and standard for just a bit over $100 bucks! Kick-***!!!:rocker:

Hello Formel1!

As for quality, well there appears to be little difference if any?! :dunno:

Both set's seem to be made out of what appears to be very well made quality of "Chrom Vanadium" and are expectional tool kits!

I'd highly recommend one of these sets (or both) for anyone to have.

Thanks again Formel1 for your assistance on hooking me up!

Mr. Tool,

Congrats on your finds!
So, I'm assuming the one offered by Garant was cheaper because Formel1 gets a discount through them?

I really don't know anything about "Garant" or who he/she is or what company that may be?

All I know is that Formel1 hooked me up with two German Ebay sellers that had what I was looking for and I just took it from there. The 'only problem' that I thought that I would encounter was shipment to the U.S. since both sellers had that they would not ship out of their respective country but after winning and immediately paying for both, they happily agreed!

I've paid alot of $$$ for a German Nut Driver Set in the past (post #7146):

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2926225#post2926225

So I know how much quality is 'worth paying for' because this set from Bernstein German manufacture are tops and very well worth the paying price!

The previous two nut driver sets, metric and standard, I like for several reasons but mostly because of their compact size also the Geman quality put into the tool is a major factor as well!

Garant is Hoffmann group's "house" brand. They source their handtools from different companies.

I have never heard of them before, but they don't have a lot of stuff.
Maybe they supply only directly to other companies.
I have some hex keys from beargrip (posted somewhere in this thread), but it's not a brand that is seen often. General toolstores have mainstream stuff like gedore/facom/hazet.
I have seen sets (mostly hex keys and Tgrip hex keys) lying around in professional factories/workshops who tend to order their stuff from large suppliers etc. Suppiers like that sell brands for 20 years etc and are less interested in the lowest price/asian brands.
You know, just like brands like 'Bernstein'. You never see that in shops, but large workshops have loads of stuff from them.
Do you know any good dutch online shops who offer Beargrip tools ?

Thanks for the advice Monte.
I wanted an eierlegende Vollmichsau :).
If you want a Eierlegende Wollmilchsau that would be a Metabo Multihammer (rotary hammer) like this:
http://www.metabo.com/Product-Catal...and-held-Power-Tool.33846+M5364a2a37c0.0.html
Because it not only can drill, hammer, chisel but also has 2 speeds.

I am thinking to buy a set of combination wrenches from 10mm to 22mm.
Which brand to choose Wurth Zebra, Unior, Toptul, Rahsol, Force or IUS?
Depends on the prices !? :)

Hello,
I hope you can help me. My father has a really old Metabo hammer drill for over 40 years. Unfortunately it has no markings or serial numbers and we are desperate to find out what model it is as we need new brushings. It looks very similar to your silver and blue one (two pictures above). Could you please advise as to what model this is please, or how we may go about trying to find out which model we have.
Kind regards,
Sean

the best would be to send some photos to Metabo so they can identify it.

Hello everyone!
Does anybody in Germany makes a 3/8" socket bits for in-hex screws larger than 12mm?
I know Snap On and Koken make them in 13 and 14mm. But I want to buy German, please help :)
Elora also makes them only up to 12mm. A in-hex screw with 12mm hex is a M14 screw. i guess thats already 1/2" territory :)

Some arrivals this afternoon - PB Swiss
PB Swiss pick set is particularly nice, an adjunct to my somewhat older ABW set.
nice PB haul ! :pimpflash:drool:

Got a few new tools in. Knipex soft hose cutter, Wera Zyklop 1/4" and two Wera locking extensions. I think I'm going to add the other Zyklops to my box, I like them. The extensions are nice but won't lock in any of my sockets that only have a divot. I also ordered their Koloss 1/2" hammer ratchet deal, looks like it could come in handy out in the field or around the farm working on some projects, probably not so much in the shop but I do fine myself reaching for a hammer a lot in the field. Also got my first pair of Grip-ons, just wanted to test the water and see how much I like them before going all hog wild, needless to say more should be on order soon.

While were in here and I'm in my Fendt mood again, I figured I's share some more Euro ****. Fendt offers their tractors in "Beauty" packages for an upcharge (List price $9,000 extra). With this you get your color choice, chrome grill and exhaust, special steering wheel ornament and grey rims. The black package is 2k less if you get orange wheels. These are the standard color offerings but I've seen gold, yellow, white, orange, red and many other colors as well.

To recap, below is a picture of ours with the standard colors. I don't mind the standard colors but a lot of people think they aren't the most attractive.

Also found some pictures of a couple of their prototypes. The Fendt X1000 is shown below in its prototype stage (hence the ugly boxy roof). Its rumored to have a 450hp 7 Cylinder Sisu or 10.8L MAN motor. Judging by Fendts history with MAN and the fact they chose MTU over MAN for the choppers, along with Agco (owners of Fendt) also owning Sisu I would put my money on the Sisu. Fendt currently runs 7.8L Duetz engines in the 900 series.

The Katana 65 had been in production for a couple years, it has a 650HP V8 MTU motor. The Katana 85 is shown below, it has an 850 HP V12 MTU motor. It will be in production shortly. I think the dual exhaust out the back is a neat touch. These are not in the US yet, they have kept them in Europe for now and just expanded into the UK last year, it sounds like within a couple years they want to be running them in the US, for now they are playing it slow though.

Okay enough of my Fendt *****, back to hand tools.

Hi!
Here are my my recent purchases. Wera Zyklop set and KSK - Japanese crimping pliers with cutting jaws.
Wera is good, confirmed all my expectations.
I hope some day:confused: I will try KSK in applications it's designed for.

Hello!

I'm glad to be back and posting again! Also have been very nice to read though all the pages since last visit!

Some of my acquisitions since last time:

S.A Wetterling forester tools (log scissor and hook?):

Made in Sweden

Lindstrom plier. Didn't really need it, since it is a tool mostly for electrics production/repair, and not for mechanics. But I wanted to have one :)

Made in Sweden

JWL AirBoy and Nordblast soda blaster. I'm 99.99% sure the Nordblast is manufactured by JWL. It looks exactly the same as their one, and it is made in Denmark also.

Also, some comparison pictures for anyone interested. A "Made in Sweden" versus a "Made in Argentina" Bahco PU10 wrench.

Notice the difference in length and thickness, both for open and ring end.

What´s the difference between sand blasting (or media blasting) and soda blasting ? What blasting material do you need ? It doesn´t damage any parts, right ?

Them zombies be wise to stay away from your house. :lol_hitti

What spurred such a purchase?

Ill be honest, I dont have a really good reason. I was on another German tool binge and since I chose Wiha for all my drivers I wanted some stuff from Wera. The zyklops are nice and the Koloss just caught my eye. Which is odd because I hate tools with more than one purpose.

Where I figured I would like it though is out in the field or on some of those projects where you are always beating things to line them up. I dont think ill grab it when Im in the shop much but its one less tool to take out to the field.

Plus its just neat to show off and talk about haha.

Congrats... how long is it? Is it longer than most 1/2 dr ratchets?

Yeah its a good 2' or so. They say max torque with the extension is 600nm and you are not supposed to use it as a hammer with the extension in.

Yes, the main difference is how much gentler it is to the object. It doesn't damage rubber, plastics or wood. It is too weak to remove rust though. I bought a bag of Armex blasting soda ( http://www.armex.com/docs/TDSMAIN.pdf ) and it is not cheap. Not reusable either, since the soda crystals break upon impact. Apart from whatever you're blasting (paint residue), it is nontoxic both for you and the environment.

Both JWL and Nordblast has some nice sales pitch movies:

I have tested mine, and I am happy with it.
