Well gentlemen,

As the evenings draw in and the weather gets wetter (here in the U.K. anyway) attention tends to shift towards those fiddly little mechanical and electro mechanical jobs that have been stacking up all year!

Having just rebuilt a drum switch, repaired a camera lens, and still faced with a shelf load of small fiddly stuff I thought I'd treat myself to some decent small pliers.

I already have quite a few British made ones, dating from he 50's through to the 70's, but all mine tend to be sized for telecoms work, and from time to time you need something smaller!

I was on the verge of acquiring some costly Lindstroms, but to be frank the quality wasn't what it was. Thought about Erem, but a fellow GJ'er put me on to Schmitz, a company I'd never heard of! (Thanks Nanofrog)!

Just received my delivery and have to say I'm well impressed with these! I reckon the quality is as good as Lindstrom used to be, and the grips are a fraction nicer. (They look like hated soft grips, but are actually quite hard so perfect for mechanical stuff). The pictures don't quite do these justice, but they are box jointed (like old Lindstrom) beautifully made and perfectly finished!

Oh, and the best bit is the price, less than half the comparable Lindstrom! Even if you have to pay a premium to ship to the U.S.A. I reckon it would be worth it!

why ?
btw. nice ratchet !!
512 quick release is nice, easier to get sockets on and off.
The price was so low, and if I remember correctly, the seller told me that may have some minor dents,scratches,etc... ( It doesn't bother me :)) i needed one for my 1/2 stahlwille socket set.

They really are the best made I've encountered in some time, and should serve you well for years.

Enjoy your new tools. :bounce:

BTW, if you could, let me know how you get on with the cutters (only have their pliers).

Even if you have to pay a premium to ship to the U.S.A. I reckon it would be worth it!
As long as they're not being bought one at a time (flat shipping rate), absolutely. ;)

Nice find.

I know there's ones before that version, but is your particular version a predecessor of this one....or were there more in between?

I think it would be interesting to see the evolution of this model over the decades.

How does one reverse ratcheting direction on this model?

The black part on the head under the metal plate... like a thumb selector. Similar to Zyklop selector.

Does anyone have any experience with Metabo cordless impact wrenches? Also are they brushless? I looked and couldn't find any info. I've been in the market for one and I'm having a hard time picking one. My choices so far are the Milwaukee M18 Fuel... I really like the Fein, Monte posted but can't seem to source it. I'd prefer compact, if possible. :)

Welcome target. Where are you located and how do you like the Toptul tools?

Now you can see my location :). For they price Toptul is very very nice but for me King Tony is more tough. My choise is most Taiwan tools because they are not overpriced like the other tools and have very decent quality.

i doubt they sell factory seconds because that will damage a brand name. Maybe they were stored in buckets or so hence the scratches. (from a auction/store closed etc.)

i don´t know exactly....there were others like this one on top:

...but i guess (because of the handle type) that this one is even older....? maybe Alfajuj knows more...

Hi guys i'm new here but i'm reading the forum before log in. This is my little tools collection.:)

The most recent Metabo impact wrenches have a 4-pole motor i think. Definitely no brushless.

The new LTX BL drill is brushless, the new more powerful LTX drill has a 4-pole motor:

maybe there is a local dealer near you who carry them ?
The impacts are rebadged/revised Milwaukee 2652-20 / 2652-22 anyway.

You just made my day Monte... :bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce:

I was always under the impression the Fein was made in Germany... I guess not.

So the 1/2 dr. M18 Fuel is basically the same thing as your Fein?

no, there are 4 models (impact wrench/impact driver/drill/percussion drill) which are "made in PRC". They look like this:
10_800x600.jpg

only the top of the line drills are "made in Germany":
10_800x600.jpg

The chinese Feins are based on the older 4-pole motor Milwaukee tools. The "Fuel" tools are more powerful (brushless "Fuel" impact 280 NM, regular 4-pole motor impact 250 NM)

4-pole motor: http://www.cpomilwaukee.com/milwauk...waukee-cordless-tools--milwaukee-m18-tools--4

Brushless motor: http://www.cpomilwaukee.com/milwauk...ee-cordless-fuel--milwaukee-m18-fuel-tools--0

edit: sorry the links don´t work as expected but you get the idea :)

Yeah, we ***** and moan here in Norway too but in perspective it is a good place to live.
A red translucent handle is always nice. Even with China bubbles. :lol_hitti

North, ask those who moan if they would like to come and live in Athens along with 2,000,000 unemployed. Gladly would change places with them if I could.

Yes can buy in local shop and on internet. I love Norway by the way you are lucky
This is my new wiha reversible screwdriver, like on Monte's from page 1. But i dont like the bubbles inside the handle look like cheap China ****

http://postimg.org/image/nsd53i34j/ http://postimg.org/image/9jaw5dujj/

I'm not certain, but my guess is that Wiha sources that screwdriver from another manufacturer. The Shiny chrome on the blade, and the handle shape aren't typical Wiha. Maybe it's Heyco?

Hi Monte, for some reason I can't quote your post earlier without crashing my browser. :dunno:

I'd show you a photo of my toolbox, but it's not very impressive. It's a plastic Plano tackle box.

It will be replaced by a Hazet 190L someday.

If you want a Eierlegende Wollmilchsau that would be a Metabo Multihammer (rotary hammer) like this:
http://www.metabo.com/Product-Catal...and-held-Power-Tool.33846+M5364a2a37c0.0.html
Because it not only can drill, hammer, chisel but also has 2 speeds.

Yeah Monte, you are right.
But I need the torque from the SBE 1100 plus. The more the merrier.
Maybe I buy the Multi- or Kombihammer. Or even the Duss :willy_nil.

@all:
I have to cut through thin glass fibre from a fairing of a motorcycle.
I have never worked with glass fibre before.
My question is, what saw do I use to have a good finish?
What should I keep in mind? Any tricks?

Kind regards

Hmm. My blue 12v Bosch impact and driver are 'assembled' in Mexico.

Monte, do those PRC Fein have a price to match?
can´t find US prices yet but over here their prices are similar like Bosch or Metabo models.

the good thing about plastic boxes is that they´re light....the metal boxes can get heavy.....but metal most likely will outlast plastic...if you have some pics ...post them ;)

if i would be you i would get a 2-speed (percussion) drill for general work and a SDS Plus Kombihammer for drilling into concrete and chiseling. Maybe a smaller ligther single speed "bench drill" too :)

re: fibre glass saw: round hole or rectangular ? A Fein Multimaster type tool with a HSS saw blade should work if you don´t need a round hole. For round holes or generally a "Dremel" tool should work with a cutting disc or milling cutter.

Tool trolley test (from Hans tools) that can keep 5 tonnes, can it be real?

I got the wonderful SBE 1100 plus. I really love that machine!
But the Bosch SDS plus drills I bought earlier seem to be lonely, so I am goint to buy an SDS drill.

FIBRE GLASS:
For the holes I use a step drill.

I just need rectangular.
You mentioned the Fein. What are the alternatives so that I can do it with a manual (non-electric) saw?

In addition to my old tool collection http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3476772&postcount=17319), I also have a 'budget' newer toolbox (table version) from Kraftwerk (1/4"& 1/2"). Quality is pretty good considering the price (hope to replace it with a Hazet some day ). The wrenches have the Clickkraft (ratchet)-function.

I like this tabletop version, because it saves space on the garage floor (I don't have a large garage).

I also have a smaller box from Amprotools (also 1/4" and 1/2") to carry around:

Both made in Taiwan I've read over here :headscrat

I know this is German made tools, but how is the quality? Our local nationwide chain store Autozone sells these, but they seem to be labeled as "cheapish" tools.

Amprotools is not German as far as I know. Think they're from the east (Taiwan or so), but are sold in the US as a A-brand I read?! Also check: http://www.amprotools.net/
I haven't used them much, but they look and feel solid/nice.
The tools don't say something like Germany or another country.
It does say "Chrome Vanadium", "Chrom Vanadium" or "CR-V".
As a second set more than Ok for the amateur. Costed me €140,-.

edit: I added 2 more close-ups pics to my post on the previous page of the Ampro-box.

Strange, my BIL has a 77 piece set and on almost all the tools it says Germany. Especially the pliers and cutters.

OK, the promised old (too bad they don't mention the year of manufacturing on their tools) Fein electric tools fitted in this old Schaefer toolbox:

Fein Ast 636:

and..

Fein Ask 636:
wrxquf.jpg

I also have several other electric tools, but probably not so interesting to add also pictures of those (on request available :)).
Here's (a part of) the list:

Makita battery powered screwdriver
Dremel mutiltool
Bosch green electric HVLP paint gun
Bosch green 115mm grinder
Bosch blue 125mm grinder (high-end)
cheap 230mm grinder (for occasional use)
Hitachi die (straight) grinder
Hitachi circular saw
cheap drill hammer (for occasional use)
Black & Decker flat sander
Black & Decker powerfile
Black & Decker heatgun
Black & Decker electrisch planer
Stanley air compressor with Airpress tools
Ampro battery powered impact driver
Nilfisk water pressure washer
Aireco MIG welding machine
Ridgid inspection camera
...:bounce:

And also this very neat mobile workbench with footpedals (Wolfcraft Master 800):

for rectangular holes a jig saw should work too (with carbide grit blade). If you want to use a hand tool i don´t know.....? Maybe something like this

Here's some fairly uncommon Facom wrenches.... I didn't see this one in the 13mm wrench test. SD
