Hey Arturo, nice pliers! I have a set like your 1st ones I picked up second hand. I'm starting to like them more than I thought I would. They are still nice and tight on the pivot pin. Have cutters in front and behind the pin too. Mine don't say "Horse" any where. The handle says "8" and "Fit Patent" on both sides and inside the handles "Made in West Germany."

Good score!

Damn, I think you’re right again! How many years has it been now, that you’ve found a source I’ve posted on here :)

Now, whether in the US, it doesn’t make more sense to just by from Sears or to try to locate the OEM (if available) for distribution here, I don’t know yet.

Thanks Monte!

Sorry for crappy mobile pics:

Pliers are tight and fully functional, as they never been used, despite damaged handle plastics.

ahhh ok. I thought Amazon.de because shipping is free (over €20.-)

http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=sr_nr_n_...hammer&ie=UTF8&qid=1392324730&rnid=1703609031

It's actually cheaper to order them via amazon.co.uk and pay the shipping fee.

Thor Copper / Rawhide Hammer Size 1
amazon.de 24 Euros + free shipping
amazon.co.uk £12,10 + £5,41 shipping = £17,51 equals 21,39 Euros

and the shipping stays the same even if you order several of them.
I paid £5,81 in shipping for all three.

Yip I don't use them very often, mostly spares and doubles. I got the sockets from a place that was getting rid of stock so I walked out with a small box of random Stahlwille sockets.
ahhh my favourite store: the store which wants to get rid of something for a good price :)

i dunno what Craftsman charge, but it guess it be easier to buy from Sears and the clamps also will be exactly the same. Warranty might be easier too i guess ?

Thanks. Eventually I also found a 3/8" in 13mm from Stahlwille. I think I prefer that one above Snap-On if need to buy another one :p
Stahlwille #1

Two 8-inch pliers, one brand Fit model "Horse" made in the times of West Germany and the other brand made in Czechoslovakia York ..

Hi 2oolhound,
Before buying these pliers had already seen the Fit model in the hands of a coworker (even got some pictures in this thread months ago) and what caught my attention and I really enjoyed was the particular arrangement of the jaws, the which intersect flush during cutting, which had not seen in other pliers ...

Luckily the chance to get one of them was given ..

Thanks! Looks handy! What were you cutting and how thick?

A closeup of the rod and the way the handle is SUPPOSED to stay stuck:

iqygea.jpg

So.. now I'm wondering how this is designed/attached with the topbrands, like Hazet. Anyone with a example? Can I rely on the handle, that they don't slide off in time? :dunno:

In the case of Ko-ken, their soft-grip ratchets from their Zeal series are all injection molded with elastomer so that simply won't happen.

Now, that is a comeback.

:+1: really awesome wall of tools!

...
Edit: i ordered this one to try first

When it needs to be more slim and 12 points in stead of just 6 then I'll consider the Stahwille 3/8 13mm that i eventually did find, but is way more expensive!

It's frustrating when the crowsfoot socket falls off into the deep, dark cavern of an engine bay because the ball on your extension has nothing to hold onto....other than the friction the ball provides. :D That BGS is also an edge-drive...not an off-corner engagement.
The more reputable brands will have off-corner engagement and at least a through-hole drilled on one side. With more expensive ones, like some Stahlwille, Snap-on, KTC/Nepros, they actually have ball detents on all four sides.
As a side note, locking extensions are a very useful tool when using crows foot wrenches.

yep Wolfcraft. Menards rebrands them as masterforce.

Up here in Canada, Home Hardware stores have been selling them .... as Wolfcrafts (not relabeled).

Wiha news:

Those are cool!
The the two bit drivers immediately reminded me of Canada's Megapro bit drivers!

Thanks for the link on the Fit Shear pliers Monte. There is good info on the maker in the link.

I've been fixed on my Klein pliers I've had for close to 45 years as my #1. While restoring a tool box last week I realized the Kleins have the cutter right behind the front griping surface like most of my pliers so the jaws are basically flat right to the pivot pin. These Fit pliers were the only pliers I had (other than common slip joint or big adjustables) that opened up or had some open space past the front grip section. This allowed me to place the hinge of the tool box edge inside that open area (where the deep nut grip teeth are) and grip past the hinge of the tool box to straighten out the bent metal. I have new respect for these Fit pliers now. The narrow jaws are nice too.

Do they still continue selling these in the vintage look?

Hrmm, vintage handle or modern handle? :D

Hey, those new ones are Elora.

Tha samstag link says "Here is the original Shear pliers from Dürholt-Zangen of Remscheid Germany" and shows our old ones.

Monte's 1st link goes to the original maker but the pliers look like the newer style like your Elora brand but they don't say Elora on them. Maybe there are 3 styles. I like mine the best, I think I only paid $2 for them :)

Where did you get these pliers?

My dealer in Thessaloníki has them. Unfortunately I'm not in Thessaloniki any more but I have made an order that has not gone away yet.

I'll order your fit plier if you want and I'll send it to you along with a beta "Italy" 13-17 for you test.

If you cant wait maybe you can find one in Athens str, near monastiraki.

i wonder how it works ?

Thanks! Looks handy! What were you cutting and how thick?
it was either 1mm or 0,88mm sheet metal. I welded in a patch on a radiator support and trimmed the excess material off.

Those are cool!

Shame on Wiha for copying :D
...i just saw that many of the Megapro drivers are made in the US and not Canada ?!
Well, now there is a german version too it seems :D

the euro style combi pliers usually have a nut grip hole right after the flat gripping surface

Do they still continue selling these in the vintage look?
i´ve never seen the pliers in a store ...

Yep, about the same for some sizes on Amazon, but the warranty is no doubt with Sears. THough warranties are a pain in general -- I’d rather not have to warranty in the first place :) Though shipped, amazon has crafty beat by a few bucks. Now whether the design is the exact same (sometimes certain OEM will make variations for various stores), I don’t know. But I ordered a couple to find out. Thanks again.

That´s true - the best warranty is the warranty you don´t need :)
Let us know if the Wolfcraft clamps are as good as the Craftsman clamps.... i might be tempted to add some too :)

sweet ratchets + drivers !

Your 863 1/4" ratchet has HAZET spelled with all capital letters so that puts it in around late 60's into the 70's. My 1985 catalog lists it with a plastic handle.

It's tool time b*tches!

Metabo UHE 2250 Multi SDS+ rotary hammer, comes with a quick change keyless chuck for regular drilling. Made in Germany.

Hitachi G13SE2 angle grinder. My most powerful 125mm yet, 1200W and paddle style switch. I expected the COO to be Japan like most Makita power tools, but it is made in Ireland.

Brockhaus Heuer 100 vise. A smaller forged steel vise for use inside the house (hence the table clamp). Also put some magnetic aluminum jaws on it for more delicate items. It's bigger 160mm brother is mounted in the garage. Made in Germany.
