Found some old Hazet tools (amongst others) in an old barn. Sadly most of them were stored in a humid cellar and are beyond worth preserving. :(

But the 916 ratchet from the 1930s is still intact and was used till recently!

the Hazet wrenches are imported it seems, they work smooth like the Taiwanese wrenches, the Gedore wrenches are from germany, some work smooth and some less smooth.... the open end is also thinner than the hazet and they´re shorter iirc.

Bear in mind that Hazet alone make, I think, five different styles of driver, and Wiha even more, so you need to start by comparing like against like!

If you want something for mechanics use, then in my experience soft finishes are best avoided. They pick up grease, then grit, then are dreadful to use, then get wrecked!

So, from Hazet you'll be looking at their 'Trinamic' (not Trinamic Ultra) which is a good traditional Hard Handle driver! I have a few of these in my "go bag" and they seem to work well and put up with a bit of abuse! These are a good choice! In the U.K. you can order from 'Tools from Germany'!

From Wiha you'd be looking at either the 'micro finish' or the 'classic'! The Classic have square red acetate handles and are quite nice. The blades are bright plated, including the tips, and I'm not sure they are as durable as the matte plated blades with the vapour blasted tips! Micro Finish are a variation of their soft finish driver and they are pretty good all round!

I've got quite a few Wiha Drivers too, especially 'specials' like torx and nut runners, (most of which I bought before discovering PB Swiss) and they've all lasted well! In the U.K. They are a good choice too! You can buy 'em from Wiha, or from MSC a tad cheaper!

I've used, but don't own, the Wera, and must admit I'd prefer either the Hazet or Wiha!

I must admit I 'mix and match" my drivers! Can't think of anything worse than having Pozidriv and Phillips with the same colour handle, so why not try a couple of each!

The Hazet socket sets are made in Germany, the normal combination wrenche, open end and double-box end wrenches also. But the ratcheting combination wrenches not. Check the 2014 catalog to check the "Made in Germany" logo on every product.

i guess i would simply buy the ones with the most ergonomic handle...

For a general workshop/mechanics screwdriver i think i would take some with hex blade and maybe a striking cap.
For woodworking and electronic work i would take some with a slim blade (cabinet screwdriver)

Witte makes nice drivers too.

Cutting discs - Pferd stainless

as adjunct to the Rhodius post earlier, I used a Pferd stainless steel cutting disc to trim the folded end of a 1mm s/s bench top yesterday. Clean cut, like knife through butter.

they do slice steel very well, it's only that my neighbour is somewhat not the guy you should let use one... :spit:

Mmm, Emily is lookin' guude.....and so too is that Czech lady. Eye candy on wheels...

look up what happened to her right before London's Olympics, how well she did on race day and, despite that, how happy she was to finish the course! true grit and determination there. i've seen some drop out of a race for a broken pinky... :rocker: :canada:


The Gedore 2-comp handle looks very comfortable, and I really adore Hazet's older 2-comp handle breaker bar as well.
the old Gedore ones or, better, Dowidat are what i'll be after once i get a black finish 3/8" Ko-ken. no need for a halfie now since i got what i posted in the Show your new tools arrivals thread... :D

I've been here awhile, but never posted anything :D
So, as you could see from guys from our part of the world (i see some guys from Slovenia, Bosnia and Croatia (ofcourse) around here :D), most of our tools are from countries around us (mostly Slovenia, Italy, Germany...) :)

nice, looks like Gesipa is now kinda swissish(SFS-Intec bought 'em if what the guy i bought screws from is right.)

Bought a Hazet 880ST (ST=standard) 3/8" socket wrench set in metal case.
Sockets are in metric: 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21 and 22mm.
Have to figure out what year it is (somewhere in the 70's I guess).


I appreciate the 3/8" size more and more. 1/4" is quite small and not that strong. 1/2" is strong, but a bit heavy and bulky. :headscrat

old Hazet are nicer than the new slovenian ones but those are still quite good and durable so go for it if you want. of the Wihas i'll probably try to get, for greasy automotive use, a set of old black handled Micro Finish or even the ones that replaced them(violet and black handles) if you like the colour(i do even if i prefer the feel of the all black ones :D). i wouldn't buy the Wera set if i could though... :wtf:

or you could get a cheap set of Felo Inomics from amazon.de... :bowdown:

anyway, whatever you choose will be a workhorsey set in some sense so select the prettiest or the cheapest, they're all fine(except those Weras that me likes not). :spit:

You're leaving out a lot of good options without looking at Felo, Gedore, Witte, Zebra.... There are very many great German screwdriver manufacturers. I personally like Wera drivers, but also own and use Felo, PB Swiss, and Wiha. In the end you can't really go wrong with any of them.

It really depends on what type of screws you work on most. For slotted screws nothing beats PB Swiss, for Phillips anything of the German brands. I'd honestly just go for whichever you think will fit best in your hand.

Try the Wabeco 24400. It weighs 13,5kg! Costs about 150,-€, often less.

These are a rebrand of C.H. Hanson's pliers. The ones with the red rubber thingy are the new ones, the black rubber ones are the old ones. I own both. With the new ones they made the adjustment screw righty=tighty (was backward on the old ones) and they also made some subtle ergonomic changes to make it a bit easier to squeeze. The teeth on the old curved one I own are much sharper and better than the teeth on the flat straight jaw new design. I don't know if this is because it's flat vs curved function-dictated or :dunno:. I don't own a new curved jaw.

I can't remember where they're made; probably asia. Either way, I love them and they work very well.

If I had to choose between these, probably the Hazet, but they both have soft handles, which I'd avoid!

Are you sure you won't want a Pozi! My No.2 Pozi is probably my most commonly used driver. Standard on most European or British cars!

the retail price was 379.-€ but i can give you a good price. I can send you some recent pics if you want, there is a little bit dirt here and there and a few scratches and rust spots :)

Still need to buy a new collet for the 8mm shaft dia burrs,stones etc.

I got the web address from the latest issue of Factory Gear Magazine that I got a few weeks ago. Mr. Factory Gear went to Germany again and he visited that site. One day I scan them and post it.

Is that volume 7 of the FG Magazine? I picked up a copy while I was there, and the write-up on the zero degree double box end wrenches is really pushing me toward the KTC wrenches. Wish they also compared the TONE ones but oh well...
