Monte: thank you very much for the awesome post helping me with the restore of my Leinen vice. the red circle showing the pin needing removed to get the vise nut out didn't say if i should tap it out upwards or downwards. if the pin is not tapered i'm guessing it would make a difference or is it tapered?

As i said that was an awesome post with links and pictures that will help me a lot and maybe others too once they own a Leinen vice. I'll probably add some of them to the Vise restore 101 thread i started after i finish this Leinen.

also if you or any of the other members want to make some posts with suggestions for vise repairs or tricks that you have discovered please post on that thread. vise (vice) restorations posts too that would be great for all of us once it's more complete so if we get a different vise in our hands and want to use it as soon as possible we won't have to search for hours in a bunch of different threads for the answers.

Who can tell me more about this Stahlwille promotion 2014?
Prices seem pretty good, before adding vat+post =)

I sent an email asking if promo was country specific or all eu. Got the following reply from distribution dept.

"Dear nowlan,
Please let us know which country you are from.
Best regards"

Is Wera no longer making these super awesome Kraftform Plus VSM screwdrivers?
I don't see them in their catalog, they work really well!

DSC00560.jpg

This set is almost (needs a 14 mm socket for brake calipers) perfect for my bike!
The quality is good but too much wobble between socket and ratchet. :([/QUOTE]

yeah, i own a set of these too miskin. i don't think that ratchet can handle your caliper problem, and the socket wobbling issue(SOCKET IS MADE IN TAIWAN) i do want to try replace it with stalhwille 1/4 socket but it is hard to get it here!::sad: i will tell you the result once i had the socket!

I tried the ratchet with some Gedore sockets but the wobbling remains. I think the problem is the ratchet's square drive. Besides wobbling i like this set very much.

I know and have with me on trips also a 13x14 offset wrench to loosen-tight the calipers. ;)

Hazet also quit making thier Swiss tips. I bought this partial set cheap off eBay and just got it in. The really is the proper way to make a slotted screwdriver.

The pin is not tapered. I tapped it downwards and also installed it that way.

I agree! But they are too big for my bench.
maybe a 100mm Schlegel is right for you ?

I guess it would look good in Hazet blue too ;)

100mm Schlegel vs. 150mm Leinen:

@Monte: well, I have a Heuer 120mm that suits me perfectly so there's no real need to buy a Leinen of Schlegel: http://garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3529631&postcount=17469
i remember it, but those Leinen vises are soooo nice  Very easy and smooth to open + close, without resistance you can operate the vise with your small finger...

Picked up a tool cart from Ash of German Hand Tools yesterday. It is from Gedore and has hydraulic lift. All the drawers open to both sides. A very nice tool cart.

Very nice!

How does the semi-automatic thing work? Does it just apply some pressure behind the cutting wheel? Can you adjust the pressure?

the lever releases the cutting blade to set the cutting width: open it completely by pulling it outward, insert your tube and push it 'til it's pressing against the tube and blocking it, then you cut said tube like with a manual one and trim the excess either by pushing on the lever and knob or by rotating the knob.

not sure it makes sense, my brain is still recovering from the heat half-stroke and the intestinal cramps of the last two days due to food poisoning... st00pid me!
lesson of the day: wash your hands before touching anything in the kitchen kids. wash > touch > use. not touch > wash > use. doesn't work and hurts quite a bit!

anyway, you don't have to rotate the knob when putting a tube in it to set the width. plus the small rubber thingies everywhere keep it from sliding and falling from a table or whatever you lay it on. and doesn't mar(one "r" or two? ) the surface either. good stuff!

Prepare yourself for a old and very cool designed Stahlwille wrench with some serious measurements :lol_hitti

This 70mm/75mm wrench is 66cm long! That's 26 inches.
I also weighs quite a lot :eyecrazy:

What's the story behind Stahwille Stabil? I sometimes also see Stahwille Motor...

And offcourse it's Made in..... >

Anyone has an idea of the year of manufacturing?
The green paint is almost completely gone. I'm wondering If I should (chemically) remove the rust or better leave it thing way. If I can get hold of the correct green, then that would also be a possibility, but the main color is Hazet blue in my garage. Would be weird to paint such a Stahlwille item in Hazet blue, right?

By the way: this one is for show, because I don't use nuts THAT big...

get that Leinen, you'll definitely use it since you'll need at least a few 75mm bolts and nuts to bolt it to your workbench! :D

;)

ps. guys, what do you get when you click on my feedback thread link at the bottom of my posts??? could some of you test it and send me a screenshot by PM and tell me what browser + version you're usin'... thnaks! :)

if you don´t like the color there is a solution:  click

And the design.... the design is probably made where the Rotrings are made nowadays :):)

Anyone has an idea of the year of manufacturing?
i once asked Stahlwille about them...:
the answer:

translation:
The production was discontinued between 1965 and 1968. It´s the predecessor of the Nr. 10 of today which was offered parallel at that time. It´s not clear from which year the tool is, it could also be older.

here mine...:
