NonSenCe - Good decision on the open box 13's, my shipment arrived today from tbs-aachen, open box 14's and stabil 20's. Couldn't pass up the deals they were having.

As Henning mentioned, it's hard to beat the Stahlwille socket sets. I decided to go down that route and purchased all of mine, used, from eBay.de (also a few bits and pieces from Hanico.com) and had them shipped down to this corner of the globe. For some reason I prefer Stahlwille's black handled drive tools. Here are some photos.
Good to see someone else from NZ on here. Your stahlwille collection is impressive.

Do you have any good NZ tool suppliers that you purchase off? I used to buy a bit of second-hand stahlwille gear off trademe, but all the tools on there seem to be over infated these days, have seen second hand tools on there sell for more than thier new retail prices.

That stahlwille tool cart is nice aswell, would love to find one of those.

Haha I know what you mean. I haven't purchased many new tools from NZ to be honest, I tend to stick to the European brands so I buy directly from Europe, even with shipping they often come in at less than half the price advertised in NZ. I see Waitemata Hydraulics prices are through the roof for Stahlwille.

In saying that, I've bought a couple of small bits and pieces from Piranha tools and EQT when international shipping would end up costing too much, both have some great tools and customer service.

I too have purchased a few secondhand items from trademe, a nice Stahlwille toolbox and that rollmaster you mentioned, however both were bought within 10minutes of being listed so you might not have seen them :)

You may know of some good companies that I've not come across... let me know if there are any goodies.

View media item 54050Got a Gedore 3/4" ratchet for cheap of eBay, shown with my 24" adjustable for scale. Its a nice fine tooth ratchet and it will be pretty was to make a longer pipe handle for it. The only annoyance is the head screw mangled getting it out so I could lube it, as it was completely dry inside, I cleaned the threads up enough to get it back in but I will need a replacement screw.

Comparison of 3/8 and 1/2 Stahlwille vs Facom 3/8 and I have a 10" adjustable for reference.

View media item 54053
Same items/ other side. The facom looks a bit slimmer or less wide than Stahlwille but that is only true towards the handle. The head of both is the same width but the Facom is oval and looks slimmer on the eye.

Have a good day

I think the 1/2 inch ratchet is huge and most of the time not needed but after seeing the torque tightening on the bolts of my car I would use it often.

Also both the 1/2 and 3/8 Stahlwile is like day and night when compared to Facom. The back drag of Stahlwille is almost nothing while Facom is very stiff.

It's the other way around with my ratchets, facom is super smooth compared to stahlwille. Not really a fair comparison though, the facom is 72tooth vs the 36 of the stahlwille 512

I have the 435QR N with 80 teeth and 512QR N with 60 teeth. The facom is the latest JL.161PB sealed pear shaped. Even the 1/2 Stahlwille is smoother than Facom.

I will make a video at some point.

I also have the 512qrn,it is the worst ratchet-in terms of smoothness-i have. The smoothest ratchets I have are the facom 1/2, 3/8 palm control ratchets and the hazet 8816-1.

It seems Festool now makes them (TTS-Cleantec) since they bought the shares from the former Kranzle-Cleantec company in 2009 where Festool and Kranzle produced the vacuums in the Kranzle factory. In 2011 Festool moved the vacuum production into their new factory a few miles away from Kranzle where they also produce the Systainers.

Hello Monte,

I am travelling to Germany and I am planning to pick up some cable reel.

Which is better quality to buy, the Brennenstuhl or the Hedi?

Or any other good option?

Many thanks
Nik

Blockw@rt and other tool masters,

I am looking to buy a couple of adjustable and would like your opinion on how the Irega compares to old Bahco made in Sweden, Lobtex and Top.

I am looking to what would be most precise and tightness. What would you buy if you had to choose one of them?

Many thanks

Hello again,

I would say no more than 100 Euro but I would look for any offers when I am there.

I was looking for reliable 25m reel and both Hedi and Brennenstuhl appear often.

Thanks

Hazet 3/8" set arrived. i was too late to cancel its shipment and it would of cost me 20 to return back to germany.. so decided i can still use the socket etc anyways. not a total waste of money then.

everything in it feels very good and solid. sadly the ratchet just has too few teeth to be the kind i really want to use all the time. so i did some maneuvering with my sets to get them into use..

the hazet ratchet got joined with my SAE sockets. (ratchet in them got thrown away)

then i placed the hazet sockets into my mannesmann set (which is the set i carry in my car always.) the mannesmann sockets and extensions that i took out of it, went with the SAE setup as there was space in the box i keep them. (those sockets are easy to spot as metric as they are black)

on monday i should be gettin a another 3/8" set btw.

hopefully it will be the "user" set then.. Beta 910A/C16. i think i got a good deal out of it, paid 140 for it. (and this one i can return easily and cheaply if its not the kind i want.)

yes yes. i know, i know.. for price of these two sets i could of gotten one stahlwille set and some money left to buy new cheaper set too. :) but this way i also got two decent sets of sockets and ratchet(s) to replace my previous ones.

i got some beta screwdrivers too at the same time to try out. beta t202 set. its got only philips head screwdrivers in it. i like that. (they have handle like this one: http://toolguyd.com/beta-betagrip-screwdriver-review/)

personal gripe.. i hate to see screwdriver sets sold that have like 4 slotted ones and only 2 ph or pz heads.. i rarely see slot screws anywhere anymore.. and i cant remember last time i actually bought or used a slot screw.. ph or pz past few decades already.. and nowdays lot of torx screws. thats why i got dozen slot screwdrivers that i dont need nor use. it seems that often they sell the set with slotted ones to almost same price as i would cost to buy the two ph/pz/trx drivers on their own.

i dont think i have ever seen anyone selling sets with only torx + ph/pz screwdrivers (3+3 or 2+2+2 etc) for the same price as they sell the sets with multiple slotted ones included.

Please do me a favour and don't buy more beta tools. They don't worth their prices. Here in Greece the mechanics think they are top notch but this is not true. They used to be good tools when they were made in Italy but not now.A good value for money sets are the facom rs 440e and j4apb which can be found for very good price online.I use the facom rs440e and it is brilliant, much better quality than the beta and it is a true professional set.

Why is that doing you a favor?

They still make most of their hard goods in Italy, sockets, ratchets, wrenches in the least. And funny you mention the Facom sets, because they #1, they are importing from Taiwan more than any other European brand since Stanley bought the company, and #2, they share the same ratcheting mechanism design as Beta. :spit:

Can you show us one current beta tool that has the coo on it?Yes all we know that facom imports tools from far east but the quality is on pair with the tools made in Europe. In the beta catalog you see tools that almost every China tool company has them.

For that price you would get a pretty nice all metal cable reel. I think at that price point there is not much difference between these two brands. Brennenstuhl has nice cable guides built into the handle though (certain models). Maybe it´s helpful.

Monte, I know about the Aldi tools, although I sometimes still get suckered into them, recently 'a precision screwdriver set':sad::sad: I always regret it.
I hope those spax bits are better than the freebies they supply with their screws!

:) the Aldi tools couldn´t convince me so far but sometimes they have "swiss made" or "Made in Germany" kitchen accessoires or other stuff... :);)

I hope they´re better at 2,95€ a piece :eyecrazy:
But maybe i completely switch to Heco since i like their screws better anyway :)

I do ! Here :)

Looking for a 1/2" square drive to 1/4" hex impact bit holder, what's out there guys?

The more compact the better!
quick release or standard ?

anyone know where to find the OEM for this German-made weather gauge? I'd love to find the maker of this barometer. This is just a particular model made for a particular store. But I bet they have a lot of cool stuff.
i dunno who is the oem,but i found 2 manufacturers of "Made in Germany" barometers: Fischer and Wempe
