Talking about the Stahlwille ratcheting wrenches, I just saw this small ad on "Le Bon Coin" (similar to Craiglist)
http://www.leboncoin.fr/bricolage/869130876.htm?ca=6_s
The ratcheting box end looks exactly the same as the 'Willies.
Also, I already saw a TopTec airtool, rebranded Stahlwille on this website.
One of you here perhaps know the relations between TopTec and Stahlwille, does one supply the other, do they have the same supplier?
I read about Kabo manufacturing the ratcheting mechanism in Taiwan.

US dealer: http://impactsockets.us/

I paid between €3.50 (1/4") and €6.40 (9/16") each (+tax)

Thank you sir. I saw that link on their webpage but I couldn't find any prices or actual distributors in the five or six states I tried. At this point I think I'll just order some KoKen. But tools from my grandfather's home country would be cool...

i thought TopTec is the cheaper line of Stahlwille just like Carolus/Gedore or Vigor/Hazet ?

Did you already call or mail the importer ? Maybe they can sell direct to you ?

Sorry to disappoint, but those are not British made Record Stillsons!

You can tell by the quality.

On the British made ones, the floating jaw was forged, then nicely machined!

Unfortunately, Record got bought out and everything was immediately outsourced, with a corresponding drop in quality which you can see here - the floating jaw is now some crude casting, not as neat, not as strong, but of course considerably cheaper!

thanks for measurements of the wrenches. ps. i like g-bodies too. i have 1980 cutlass calais.

and.. mrpretty..awesome collection. -i envy-

trolley of fein reminds me again..
i am so tempted to buy a fein multimaster 250q (the basic quickstart setup).
accidentally stumbled up on a deal of under 108euros/120usd. never seen one sold that cheap. (i think 150 has been the minimum/normal)

but i already have the ryobi version of the multimaster. so i dont need another one..

-----
today i sanded the rust out of few decades old bacho adjustable wrench. it has been neglected in my fathers garage for long time.. so i replaced it with chromeychinese version and took the swedish bahco home with me for some tlc and oil. (i will return it there on its spot on weekend)

View media item 54531View media item 54532Schmitz pliers, nice for the money and Felo drivers, which were very cheap.
A really nice used Record 8" clamp and an even bigger King **** spanner, 2 3/8" & 2 9/16" 26" long.

Peeb is still finding great stuff, those Ridged pipe wrenches are especially useful, and the Footprint is one of the tools that they were known for.

I received a brand new sealed in original package from online seller j.174 ratchet and I think I have problem. It is a quick release ratchet so the socket supposed to be pulled and pushed on the ratchet only when the push button is pressed, but with mine that is not happening.I can push or pull a socket without press the button,is this normal?

No that is not normal. I have a J.174, and you must use the button to install or remove a socket.

I've been fighting the urge to jump into Bosch's 12v line, this might push me to take the plunge, if they ever bring it to the US. I'd love a Fuel M12 version....

Heh. I used to have all M12/M18 stuff, I switched to Bosch for 12v and Metabo for 18v.

The M12 stuff was decent, I'd just rather have everything more compact and lighter, rather that more powerful...and the M12 stuff just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Impressive for being 12v I guess, but I don't need them to overlap so heavily with my 18v tools.

These are how the brushless screwdrivers compare, the size difference is quite significant.

I'm with you on the size thing rice rocket, when I'm using the 10.8v stuff its because I need the tools to be small and light, I have 14.4v and 18v kit for more power. Got a few Bosch 10.8v tools now but could do with more.

I think this has probably been discussed ad nauseam but I never really paid attention (though I book marked a few places), but I'm looking for a good heavy-duty vac that'll make short work of metal chips (sometimes coated with greasy/oily saw coolant) in and around a few metal cutting saws I have that do serious duty. What should I be looking for?

The recent Metabo I got I'd like to keep nicer for indoor jobs with sanders and the like.

Also looking for a pressure washer (maybe electric or gas) that's all purpose but that I can use (if the need arises) for cleaning things that I don't want to "Strip the paint off of". I've used a few cheap electric models but wasn't impressed. But maybe they're some high quality German ones? What of gas/diesel powered options? Kranzle? Or something else?

My exact reason for the interest in the Bosch. I got to looking at my M12 is relation the some of the M18 stuff I have and it IS pretty big. It hasn't been a problem yet, but we have to be prepared for any situation, right? Why else would we need (yes, NEED) 30+ ratchets? LOL

Haha, that Hitachi advertisement :D
The tools look very modern though, for some reason I would've expected them to be bulkier in 1979.

BTW, when I first scrolled down, I thought it was a picture of Kate Bush with tools.
Now wouldn't that be something :p

I have one of those Hitachi corded drills (probably a slightly later version) was my dads, bought in the 80's, still going strong.
Looks nice ! Way better than the new Hitachi :) What chuck does it have ? Looks almost german :)

Do you have a side by side pic ?
Look what came in the mail today!
nice :thumbup::drool:

They should have kept the design :) Maybe i would buy a Hitachi tool then:)

lol yeah almost :)

There are vacuums made for that specific task like this but i guess you could buy several Metabos for that price...Maybe i would look out for something with a metal tank ?

High quality? Brass pumphead, stainless steel valves/pistons (ceramic coated), slow speed motor.... Kranzle or grey colored Karcher .... Kranzle K1122 TST for example...

Cheap unbranded locking keyless, probably Chinese, was put on a few years ago when the previous decent keyless chuck locked up, it had to much use drilling masonry on the impact function in the years before SDS. Its a decent 2 speed drill that still sees some use. I also hate the current look of Hitachi tools.

Not a great one, unfortunately.

I34gjIK.jpg

The Bosch is the shortest at 5.3 inches, my Metabo BS 18 LTX BL is in the middle at 6.2 inches, and the M12 is the longest on the bottom at 6.6.

That's 135mm, 158mm, and 168mm, respectively, for those metric folks. :)
