Bahco Handfast Assortiment:
nice old school tools ! :rocker:

Anyone familiar with this brand? It is from the mid-seventies, my father bought it to use on his moped. It looks pretty good after all those years lying in a toolbox among rusty stuff. The colour differs also a little from most other wrenches, (it is no so clear on this pictures) but it has kind of copperlike tone to it.
never heard of it.....
only found this :)

This is my first post on GJ, and while my tool collection and garage/workspace is pretty amateur-hour compared to most people on here (probably because I'm in no way a professional, just a regular schlub), I wanted to share my recent purchase.

A local retailer here has had some pretty nice discounts on their Hazet stock (apparently the stuff just doesn't sell because of the price). So I had a chance to pickup this nice Hazet Assistent 177w at a pretty great price (and bought my wifes Xmas present to me without her even knowing it, ha).

It was feeling very lonely and empty, so I bought some a 606 ratchet set to start off the collection!

Unfortunately the unit was a display sample, and they misplaced the key. I'm hoping I can get an extra key from Hazet.

ah yes here they are: click
Gedore hand guard and PB chisel ? Nice combination. The best from both worlds ? :) Interesting color combination :) But i think it`s the best hand guard out there due to the double layer contruction, which absorbs any strike of a hammer better.
I somehow saw them here too, oh yes: :)

Monte, is Habera a sub-brand of Gedore ?

Monte, is Habera a sub-brand of Gedore ?

Monte certainly has more information, but here is some info from wikipedia in German:

"1985 erfolgte der Einstieg bei Hermann Bremer (HABERO) in Wuppertal, ein Hersteller von Hämmern und Meißeln"

The above says that Gedore did acquire a stake in Habero (and I assume that was a 100% acquisition). I am not 100% sure that Gedore remains the owner of Habero until today, but I think they do.

I thought you were a menzerna guy:)
In the future i might be :)
Menzerna + Koch Chemie...

Welcome ! Nice car + tool box !

Habero was bought by Gedore. The Habero brand is now integrated into the Gedore brand so all Habero tools you see are old stock, all the new hammers + chisels carry the Gedore brand name.

Haha, I know how you feel. When I got my (much older, secondhand) 415, it was one stiff f*cker. I oiled and chucked it in a drill for 10 minutes, which definitely improved things. It's still coarse and will never be the smoothest ratchet on the planet, but I still use it all the time.

Yours is a 80 tooth ratchet right? Weren't they supposed to be butter smooth? (mine has only 22 teeth I believe)

Nice, but the Toro and the Mulch Master are both powered by a Briggs & Stratton engine made in USA. So for this reason maybe they're not the best examples of "made in europe".

they also make electric ones :p I´m not sure if there are still european motors available ? It seems most lawn mowers come with motors from Briggs + stratton, Honda, Subaru or Kohler. Maybe there are companies who make their own motors ? Emak/Efco ??? Castelgarden ??? I don´t know....

Ha, that old German car is why I'm such a fan of well-made German tools. It's so solid and well made that it really makes you appreciate quality engineering (Im not sure if the newer German cars are quite as well made though unfortunately).

But yeah, the wooden top was what sold it for me. We have a pretty tiny garage, so this little guy will have to be a tool storage/workshop all-in-one for the foreseeable future.

You can look the steinel heat guns. They supposed to be the best.

Hi chrissalas1,

Thanks for the info. Are they still that good while they are made in Romania?

Do you think the ones with the LCD screen are more prone to fail?

Best

China? Would be **** then damn:mad:
Steinel offer heat guns from Romania and Germany. The professional "stick" type guns like the HG 2300 are swiss made iirc. The HG 2000 is from Germany iirc. You also can look at Leister, they should be "Swiss Made". Kress sold this heat gun "Made in Germany". Or maybe you can find a old Facom heat gun Made in Germany :). These Forsthoff heatguns are made in germany.

Monte, just looking at your 12v Fein drill pictures. Are they made in Germany? Specifically the ABSU12C model.
The ABSU ist NOT made in Germany (Made in China). Only the ASCM is made in Germany. But the chinese drill is pretty well made with good chuck, tight fitment of the plastic parts and only minor differences in manufacturing. (no gap between plastic/rubber at the german tool, small gap chinese tool)

I think that the Romanian steinels should be very good and I don't think that ones with LCD screen are more prone to fail.A steinel heat gun is on my wish list.I think most of the tools made in European countries are top notch.

Do you know if those QR mechanisms fit into the standard palm control handles ? They are all made in the USAG factory in Italy. I was thinking of putting one into a S.143a swivel head. Are the QR as smooth running ?

I don't know if it fits the QR in all palm control handles, but it seems reasonable. It's a 70-tooth mechanism.

finally pulled the trigger on getting the facom ratchet set i have been eyeing for some time. facom rs.440e set. 114euros/125usd.

i tried to search if there were some other well known and respected (euro)brand offering better 1/2 and 1/4 ratchet set deal than that. but wasnt able to find them.

and at the same time i "accidentally" ordered another thing i have been thinking about getting.. the Stahlwille 17/12 ratcheting wrench set. 12 pc set for 148e.

one of these i am likely able to swindle as my x-mas present from someone else so other one of them was "free". and other a gift to myself from myself?.. hahah..

and also.. at the same time.. with same postage fees i ordered a small 150mm knipex cobra pliers for my dad as xmas x-mas xmas present. he loves all of his cobras so i got him small one to have a backup.. (as you know the saying: one is none, two is one. three is backup. :) )

------
edit: ordered these from tbs-aachen again.

12 piece Gedore combination wrenches. Bought for around $55 on Amazon (this was just for a few hours and I saw that by coincidence on the Garage Journal hot deals section). Many thanks to the original poster there. Open end Gedore as a comparison. I am not sure if there is a difference between "Made in Germany" and just "Germany".

Wow thats terrible. I have that same set from the Amazon deal but haven't used them at all as I've got stahwille and wright wrenches that I preference using.

Let us know how Gedore's warranty process is? I'd definitely warranty a wrench like that for being too soft, though if its replaced with the same quality of steel, I guess theres not much point even if their service is awesome. Just bad quality product :dunno:

I was very disappointed, this is after only one use doing suspension work on my vehicle, and I like my tools enough not to abuse them. It looks and feels even worse in person, pictures are not clear enough

Monte, is this normal? Is Gedore going the way of PRC :)

that's not normal for gedore, never has issue like that with my 1B set (but keep in mind 1B has much thicker jaws... pretty sure all gedore's wrenches are still made in germany. send pics to gedore...pretty sure they will send you another wrench.

My Stahlwille 1/2" wobble has a max torque figure stamped on it which is well bellow the normal ones.

OK, I am an idiot. It does say the torque specs on them, its even clear on the picture I posted :tard: Thanks :)

I thought it wasn't normal. I don't think I will bother with the warranty for one wrench though, even though I am pretty pissed of at the quality of this wrench. That was just ONE SINGLE use.
Thanks for the input

Thanks Jure, as I said, I will just ignore it as it is more trouble than worth. Maybe its just one bad apple.

The gedore factory customer service and quality control are not good. Some months ago i bought a Gedore 1919-90 set ,came completely sealed with gelantine but instead of one 14mm and one 15mm had 2 15mm sockets.I did send several mails to [email protected] but I am still waiting for a response........
About the same happened several months ago when I bought a brand new Gedore torx screwdriver set from eBay.de and came with 2 t10 instead of one t10 and one t15..........
