Wow, can you imagine if 20 years or in whatever time, someone puts that up on Ebay...I'd imagine it'll fetch a pretty price among collectors.

Here's a couple IPS slip-joint, long nose pliers (300mm). They have very little slop in the joints, unlike typical slip-jointed tools out there. The notches on the business end are handy for traditional hose spring clamps.

Sweet ! I only knew them from website pictures (probably from where you bought them :) click But your pics are much nicer and show the real beauty !! Nicely forged beams with polished heads ! Very nice ! Never saw those long pliers with slip joints. (only "normal" and double joint)

And 1860.- and 1960.- yen sounds reasonable too (around 20/21.- USD) that`s only around 14 Euro :) which is a really good price. I would ****** one up for 14 bucks (+ s&h :) )

With the SB-series, they have a concealed internal wire spring inside the joint, differentiating them from the rest of the spring-loaded pliers out there.
sb165.jpg

According to their website, IPS Igarashi Pliers, by 1970, were given the green light to supply the US Federal Supply Agency with pliers during emergencies. Starting that decade, 90% of production was for exports into North America, Europe, and South East Asia. They provided OEM services as well (Hrmm, I wonder if the Sears/Craftman branded ones stamped with a Japanese COO are from IPS?)

I like how they provide consumers with the production processes of their products; it goes to show that they care about their products and want others to appreciate the attention put into them: http://www.ips-tool.co.jp/shousai.html#zairyou Too bad there aren't more pictures to accompany it.

Congrats on your new box Monte, I'm thinking of getting my 3rd roll cab this year.

What Do you have for brands over there ? I guess shipping to you would be a lot €€€€€€ ?

@ superautobacs: Unfortunately i only see strange signs when i click your links :D

Manufacturers should show more of those pics (or videos) of how tools are manufactured so the customer can see how many steps it takes until a tool is finished and how complicated it is and also to get a glimpse where the money of the customer is going into.

The Tajima scraper looks nice.
Over here in Canada, the best name for scrapers is Richard--a Canadian company.

I have one Tajima tool--a stainless steel ruler. :)

The brands that are carried over here are mostly the cheap **** the importers buy in bulk at a low cost and sell a little higher.

But we also have Heyco, Elora, Beta, Stanley, Draper, Mundial, Rolson and so on. I'm sort of picky on my tools and try to find them on eBay for the better brands such as Snap On and Mac

If you are serious, I'm making a Harry's order tomorrow. I'll get it and ship you what I don't want. You more interested in the screwdrivers or the stand?

I`ll take some more pics of the workbench but right now it`s sitting in the garage at home. I`ve to rent a trailer this week since i also have to haul my TIG-welder to the "shop" too. (And pick up a cabinet from a store and bring a compressor from the "shop" to a used machinery seller to get some €€€€) So it could take a while since i also have to make room for everything first...

Thanks for the offer ! Just checked USPS and a flat rate box (2 pounds for around 6 drivers and package) would be $ 24,45 :( with insurance ......
I almost could buy a flight ticket for that amount :)
I`ll have to look for a cheaper alternative ( 1 driver in a letter or so...)...

Got this Laser brake flaring set in the mail today

2943.jpg

And a few weeks ago picked up a Laser terminal tool set

3746.jpg

Sometimes we can be glad to have imported tools so we can buy such specialities like the terminal tools which otherwise would be around the 3 digit price range...

Facom fingertip ratchet
I wonder why they used the 3/8" dr. head instead of 1/4" dr.
OD of ratchet is ca. 39 mm

The one and only Japanese tool in my box
"The Lobster" 450mm good quality i love it

20090724190912.jpg

Here's my Lobster 150mm (6") that I've had since the 1980's. Made from chromoly steel:

3770599126_2bbf33acaf.jpg

3769801221_d8cf2e4dd6.jpg

A couple 21st century adjustable wrenches from Top and Aigo. Both are 200mm and the Aigo one is a production model that complies with the new JIS standard (don't ask me what it is :D). The Top one has a feature no one else has as it holds a German, Swedish, and US patent: It's a bent nose design and it has a double worm gear that equates to a near zero backlash jaw.

I never did use them yet. I bought them 2 years ago for 10 euros a set which is dirt cheap. But I think if I ever did use them they would break on the first turn.

Yes my Mundial tools do say "Made In Italy" on them. I have a set in my Chevy pick up which work well.

Monte, where are Laser tools made?

I only bought them cause I needed to use them one day and I didn't even own a set, so I said that I better get one for future use.

I got the tube flaring set cause I didn't own a double flaring set just a single.

Is there a source on the web to purchase these pliers other than the Japanese sites you listed?

@canadiancharlie:
I can`t tell you exactly where what tool was made but the terminal set retails for 26,80 pounds, if you deduct the dealer margin of 40-50% than thats 13,40 and Laser also has to earn something so the "manufacturing" price should be around 6-7 pound for this 12 piece set. I doubt that you can make such a set for this price somewhere in western europe.
The Gedore set for example (10 piece) cost about 300 euros ... click And thats already the promo price...

Other tools:
Laser screwdriver:
3350-3374.jpg

The manufacturer ? click Lancer/Yih Cheng (Taiwan)

Laser ratchet:

the manufacturer ? William tools (Taiwan) click

@superautobacs: nice collection of monkey wrenches ! :)
20 degree offset on the TOP one ? Jaws are 4,5mm (+- 0,5mm) thick i think :)
I wonder if companies outside of japan will ever jump on the "lightool" trend. In japan they seem to be common since there are already several companies who offer such products.

ps: what camera do you use ??

Rick

If you can`t find them these are close (KAL tools)

richleh, Monte had a better answer than I could've provided!
I honestly don't know of any non-Japanese websites that carry them...errr, I should rather say I haven't really investigated if these are available in NA. :p
Those KAL ones from sjdiscounttools looks pretty close in design though.

You're bang on with the measurements.

Lightool....it has been a trend for the past few years, but we've yet to see anyone else taking an initiative over here. I have a feeling there's a big population out there who would smirk upon looking at these designs, viewing them as if they're toys.

I use a Dikon D40 with the 18-55mm lens that it came with. It's alright for the macro shots. Some non-DSLR cameras have a pretty good lens for macro stuff.

Here's some more shots:

A Gedore nut holder. Perfect for those inaccessible places:

3773570766_43ff54456f_b.jpg

A Gedore "combination-holder-tool" with a built-in magnet. Again, to ease the frustration that can come along with the handling of a washer and nut in a confined space. The box illustrates its use:

I have both the KAL pliers, but the Japanese slip joints look to be better quality based on the pictures. Thanks for the responses.

@ricleh: Someone (superautobacs ?) posted a link somewhere here from a shop in the US who sells these IPS pliers:

wh.jpg

So if you would ask them probably they could order the long reach IPS pliers for you ?

@superautobacs: hey the plastic gedore nutholder is on my wishlist now ! :D
