Are Hazet ratcheting combination wrenches made in Germany? I take it the Stahlwille and Gedore are, but seem to remember that at one point the Hazet were made in China?

I could be incorrect however I believe both the Stahlwille and Hazet ratcheting combination wrenches are of oriental origin.

The Gedore ratcheting combination wrenches (7R and 7UR) are made in Germany.

24NM torque wrench ?

Does somebody know a quality version of this angle finder with magnet (if possible) ? (and not too expensive, but also not too cheap :))

789-winkelmesser.jpg

The one from Leevalley below it should be of very good quality.

You could also get a digital one

I love empire tools, ive got a few levels. I really cant remember the cost but it would not have been super expensive. Works great although i would have liked the magnet to be a little stronger
Interesting trick of the upload! Dial was on its side but now looks upright as the photo got rotated..

Had these sitting around for a while now, finally decided to open em up and stick them in my box. My old c-man raised panels will be my travel set. They're too damn heavy to use consistently. The Hazet feel like half the weight. Will get out a scale and check that for sure.

Whats the general consensus on Stahlwille ratchets 1/4 & 1/2. Are they any good?

Looking at:

http://www.tbs-aachen.de/Stahlwille...lle_50/10/4_SC_Socket-Set_1/2_i3736_56065.htm

http://www.tbs-aachen.de/Stahlwille...lle_40/13/6_SC_Socket-Set_1/4_i3736_56063.htm

What about this Facom? (like a 400 hundred eur discount?)

http://www.tbs-aachen.de/Stahlwille...RS440E_Socket-Set_1/4_und_1/2_i3519_55980.htm

Are all still made in Europe?

NOTE: If money was not a limiting factor I would get Hazet or Snap-on. A friend owns Hazet and I like the feel. I fell in love with snap-on ratchets with the steel handle back in my aviation days. Both are out of my budget.

Hazet offers this set, the 953 SPC, that is a very good price for what you get. I would suggest PMing member jensputzier and getting a quote on it.

http://www.conrad.com/ce/en/product/816196/Hazet----47PCS-63-125-mm-14-12----953SPC

Based on the prices of what you posted, the Facom looks like the better deal.

Personally I prefer fine tooth ratchets like the 435 QR N 3/8th which has 80 and locking quick release

I actually prefer Stahlwille to Hazet. That said, try to find a set that has the newer fine tooth ratchets (the QR N designation will be in the ratchet model number).

I could be wrong, but I think the only one is the 45/14/51 QR set

bought couple dozen assorted german made screwdrivers..

couldnt help myself.. store was a selling 8 random scredrivers for 4 euros, special price, they said they all are made in germany and called them to be "witte" brand. i decided to take a chance and bought one bag. 8 random sized witte screwdrivers for 4 euros total was not a bad deal. (just to have one or two useful ones in there would make it a good deal)

as they arrived, i was happy to find they really were all "brand" names. i believe they are older models and contained really random sizes and styles, flat, philips, pozi, torx or hex (of different sizes and brands). anywhere from huge philips screwdriver to small t6 torx.

i ended up with Witte, Cimco, Hazet, Stahlwille, Matco, Wittron and Klein branded screwdrivers. useful and non useful sizes, some are 1000v vde models. but i was not expecting to find hazet or stahlwille branded screwdrivers in there. happy suprise.

i think i bought 7 bags total. kept 5 myself (40pcs) and gave two away (16) to friends and family. the company still sell those baggies for 8 euros each now (plus shipping) so the special offer is over, knowing what i get in them i think the 8 euro for 8 screwdrivers is still decent deal. each screwdriver of them is still likely to be priced about that individually or more. but for previous special offer, 4e was a deal. which explains why i ended up buying 56 screwdrivers. haha. about 25-30 of them i can find use for. (others are doubles or real oddity size like vde 1000v torx45 screwdriver.)

I have the same exact ratchets from Stahlwille and two 3/8 Facoms one from Italy and one from taiwan.

Smoothest of all is the 3/8 Stahlwille 435 QRN 80 teeth which is almost the same zize as the 1/4 facom (4 mm wider) and Hazet (same I think). Only the length makes a difference at 45 mm longer.

The 1/2 Stahlwille 512 QRN has 60 teeth and it is not as smooth as the 3/8 brother but it is very compact compared to all other brands.

The facom Italy is much smoother than Facom Taiwan but this might change after some use since the Taiwan is sealed.

Overall the Stahlwille have the least less "drag back" but the 1/2 does not seem to be as smooth as the hazet if that makes sense, it is how it feels on the hand when you work with them.

What is left to say is how strong the Stahlwille are! Saying that we broke a Stahlwille 3/8 socket 19mm when we put the small extension to undo the tyre of my friend's Volvo car. I will get pictures and post at some point.

I have never had that happened with other "expensive" brands and although My friend is around kg I did not expected that the socket would fail.

I know that we should have used a 1/2 socket but it is only a 19 mm bolt, just in 12.9 one:evil:

We eventually used a 1/2 impact socket from Halfords and the job was done!

So the morale is use impact sockets wher possible and forget the exotic material and brand names:D

Does anyone have experience with any of stahlwilles flex head ratchets? It's hard to find a dealer that has them in stock and I'd like to be able to have a play before buying, or at least hear some great reviews from you lot.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

My 1/4 Stahlwille 415 QRN is the most stiff ratchet I own when it is new, but I'm sure it is really strong. How they can make such a huge difference with the same structure. :lol_hitti

IIRC, these stahlwille socket sets in soft bags are discontinued. They stayed in the catalog for just one year. Many of my friends really like these soft bags. Don't know why they discontinue such a new product.

I don't understand German tool pricing. Made in Germany hand tools are much cheaper there than in the USA, makes sense. Made in Germany power tools cost much more there than in the USA, doesn't make sense but I developed a theory that it's because we buy so many more power tools (no idea if this is true). Then I noticed that the made in China Metabo cordless miter saw, which is $579 in the USA, is only about $170 before VAT in Germany...what in the world???

Which ones?:rocker:

Sorry, meant to reply to spanimal's post and pliers pics on page 1206, Something got mixed up here...

I have been enjoying this thread a lot. Here's most of my current collection, very recently acquired to replace my old long gone set.

The Sidchromes are made in France and Germany for the vice grips. The German NWS were much cheaper than the French Sidchromes, haven't really put any of them to the test. Except the sidecutters, the NWS sidecutters cut with far less effort than the French Sidchromes, worlds apart really.

The Sidchrome and Knipex joints are better than the NWS...the joint on the Knipex long nose is superior than all others, smoother, tighter, no resistance. I will be buying more dipped handle Knipexes - the default pliers in all Australian mechanics toolboxes.

LOL. That flex looks like a 13 year old took a Facom mechanism and some scrap from the bin and made it in shop class. It has comparable ergonomics to the seventies VW Thing.

Haha that's what I like about it, looks a brute [emoji106]

I guess there's not much beauty in my current ratchets either but I can't foresee them giving up in the next decade. 3ef2e8b2dfd5c76fb2986d7998473c9a.jpg

What do you propose it should look like? I like different.

As per Vogel site "Made in Taiwan":shocking:
:eyecrazy::shocking:
seems to be a typo then...they want 8 bucks and not 80 :)

they have 2 miter saws, the "KS" (mitre saw) and "KGS" (crosscut + mitre saw). The "KS" is the cheap one, prices also may vary because some are w/o battery. The KGS with battery + charger is 499.-€. Mafell and Fein are also not really cheaper in the US....Mostly the china made "german tools" are cheaper in the US. I was also told that the americans don´t want to spend much for power tools hence the lower prices. The prices for professional power tools in the US are set by Dewalt and Milwaukee so you have to match their prices. (hence you have to lower them if you want to sell something, because you have to compete with china made tools for like 100 - 150$ max.). The prices for professional hand tools are set by Snap-On so you can increase the price and still can compete.

No experience myself but I remember Monte saying that they are the probably the strongest.
the joint seems to be stronger than others...
