One thing I've noticed over the years is you can often spot a Chinese made tool from the case it's in. The plastic is different from that produced in Europe. Perhaps because it is not made to the same environmental standards.
The cheaper grades often used are obviously pretty obvious too.

Has anyone got one of these new Stahlwille all plastic socket cases, are they any good ?

I just had a look at the http://witte-werkzeuge.de/ website and they have updated the designs of their screwdrivers.
protop-uebersicht.png

And there are Witte pliers on the way. @Monte did you see them at the hardware fair? I am curious, are they made inhouse or rebranded versions?

Well, I just got a set in that has some kind of interim case - it's plastic, but has no green on the outside and no etching in the foam in the top half. It's very bad. Sad, because the tools are so nice. I disagree with the early comment posted here that the 512 QR N is not nice. I have this and the Gedore U-20 and it seems just as nice to me, and it holds the sockets with less wiggle.

Nice choice Tepid87, maybe the best quality<>price ratio is Toptul.

Yes, I agree with that, I don't think you can get better value for your money. I am very impressed by the quality of the things I ordered. And the prices are really cheap. For instance the deep 1/4" socketset of 13 pieces costs only 9 euros. :wtf: Usually I am not that into tools from Taiwan, but nowadays a lot of brands like Facom let you pay European manafactured prices for Asian made tools. And I am not gonna do that. So for payback I bought Asian stuff:evil:

Very nice.
But they tend to get a bit expensive, when they come on our side of the Atlantic.
maybe they will be cheaper once they find adistributor here...
Excellent pics.
Thanks.
Nice rolling box. Only the Chinese clone has been available over here for about a year or more and that might be unavailable now.
I hope that makes it over here.
where is this made ?
http://www.whitesidemfg.com/creeper items/rollbox.htm
edit: it seems it´s chinese...
Must have blue and black Witte !
When will they offer that ?
i guess they will be entering the market in a few weeks after the exhibition.
great, now i'll feel empty inside till I buy a new Dinzl rollbox
and the painted vises are awsomeeeeee
Everytime I finish buy tools, Monte has to post his adventures at toolshows.
lol :D Sorry :)

In this video, I ramble too much and don't hit all the points I intended to hit. Maybe I should script these, or at least write down bullets...

I love my Ochsenkopf Big Ox splitting maul - I can even split Black Gum (http://my.woodmagazine.com/materials-guide/lumber/wood-species-1/black-gum/) with it - though I won't say it does it easily, it's amazing it does it at all.

Here's mine with a Gransfors Bruks

Thanx for taking the time to do that socket set video.

I have both 3/8 and 1/2" locking Stahlwille extensions and there is indeed quite a bit of play which I think is deliberate.

The small socket is tight on the ratchet but lose on the end of the extensions. It can't come off of course because of the lock.

Monte, I noticed you had a picture of the Halder stand. Does anybody in Germany actually buy their splitting mauls ? It's a very different design to anything else on the market.

http://www.halder.com/gb/content/search?searchbutton=Search&SearchText=maul
you can buy it at amazon and ebay and other stores...even in japan...but i can´t tell you IF someone is actually buying it :) It seems a good idea because you only need one tool because you can strike the wedge with the soft face side of the axe...personally i guess i would get the Big Ox and a plastic/aluminium wedge or a steel one with a soft face.

you have 2 years... next fair is in march 2018... :)
But you don´t have to learn german since most of the people there (can) speak english since there are buyers and sellers from all over the world. And you have enough time to save the 1000 bucks for the flight ticket :D

Sorry i don´t know. But i think it was larger. IIRC 2 years ago they had a even larger socket on display. They are not forged, but machined on a lathe.

I've heard Monte got so over-excited when confronted with that wall of Stahlwille, he started running around like a headless chicken.
Security threw him out and confiscated his camera thinking he was involved in industrial espionage.....

Anyone who has recommendations on a manual sealant gun? Made in Europe? Or Japan, is Tajima good? I like their knives and measuring tapes.
I am using a cheap flimsy one now, which requires a lot hand power. I am looking for something to upgrade.
