Facom 603F, aluminium and I think stainless attachments and inserts for preventing rust.

30491e42c2a1f1e01b5264bf2aeb2297.jpg

In theory is a a bit heavier than the 601 however I cannot feel the difference. It feels very strong and sturdy.
4091439143cc227edc8c55b7e50c9a2e.jpg

The blade attached by spring loaded mechanism on the front that makes it study and not rotating while changing blades. The 601 has no rotating attachments so a bit more straightforward when blade changing.
2ba267a353b7d2a1ad5910dbfdd7e34c.jpg

Very tight tolerances of the rear blade attachment with positive and easy locking at 45 degree intervals.

All in all very pleased. I would prefer the handles to have a bit rubber texture as the 601. The aluminium 603F feels very cold when getting it on your hand[emoji4].

NO COO!!![emoji15]

I am not generally buy facom for that reason with some exemptions, of course[emoji16]

Coo on facom stuff is fubar. Certainly not made in Europe for many things anymore.

On the other hand I have yet to buy something from Facom that I am disappointed with.

Partially due to the fact I do not have loads of facom and partially due to the fact that the facom I do have was all bought on special. So for what I paid I got great quality, and have no reason to complain [emoji6]

That hacksaw looks decent and I could certainly see myself replacing my hardware store specials with one of these.

I'm in France at the moment, and whilst the missus may actually try to kill me if I go tool hunting on holiday I am very tempted. Maybe facom is a little cheaper in its home country [emoji12]

Haha, I got it from TBS when crossing with my wife and baby to go on holidays! You can imagine what happened whilst they were waiting for me to pick up the tools[emoji106] .

Best tactic in these cases is to listen, say yes to everything and do not try to say something back for at least after a month or two[emoji16]

Question about stripping pliers.

Should I get the manual?
ab4b64305928ad89f92d06cb200c8075.jpg

Should I get the automatic one?
6dc8e58a3fea555994c7acac99d3194b.jpg

I believe both have positive and negative however I would like your feedback from experience.

As per description the automatic is made from alloy and I assume the manual is carbon steel.

Thanks

Another request - Looking for reliable well made mini hacksaw. I have the one pictured below but the blade keeps slipping no matter how tight I screw it. Thanks

I've never been a big fan of the manual types as I switch wire gauges quickly (also easier to nick the wire IME). So automatic for me whenever possible.

As per the Stahlwille automatic specifically, I've not used it (don't recall seeing that type).

But FWIW, my Pressmaster Embla is made of a composite material and works very well (can even do PTFE insulation with the right blade cartridge installed). Nice ergonomics & lightweight too, which is nice if you've a lot of terminations to make. Oh, and it has a decent wire cutter beneath the stripping portion (U notch). And if it matters to you, the COO is Sweden.

There are some other brands to consider as well, if you're interested in this ^ type, such as Weidemueller.

I manager to break a Knipex- branded Weidmuller and went with the Embla, albeit rebranded as well. I would say that the Embla is the better of the two. I think that this kind of wirestripper was discussed in some length a few pages back. Might be worth a search, unless one is set on the old type of stripper. I have a few of the manual ones, but honestly don't remember the last time I used one...

Second the bahco! That said I rarely ever use mine anymore.

I either grab a full size hacksaw, a cutoff wheel on the dremel or die tool, or lately for copper pipes an Irwin pipe cutter...

They all feel safer and quicker.

Hi NCNDM,
What do you mean by die tool?

I have only used it a few times to cut in awkward places and also when in car away from home.

Actually a guy I know cut the clamping chain some dodgy parking company put on his car's wheel on a private space when he left the car to go and pay some bills!!!:lol_hitti

The dremel is also good idea, maybe I should buy one??

Maybe the Proxxon, which is better?

Thanks

Thanks guys,

I am sure the Embla is probably the best. I only use it ocassionally and I am thinking of the specific design as it very compact to strip cables in-situ (see car engine) and also there is no gap between the cable and the blades which sometimes is good if you want to strip short remaining cables.

Hi Nanofrog,

I will post some pictures of some NOS Lindstrom made in Sweden. I need your opinion with regards to the cutting edge.

Have a good night

Sir Monte please need help -how do you rate Witte Protop Plus against Pb Swiss only about quality of blade i want to buy a set from amazon. Thanks

Yes Monte reply please,

These Witte look like the new Stahlwille. If that is true they have to be good since Stahlwille has a very good quality and consistency with their tools.

I have had a pair of Boker manuals for 30 years, much prefer the self adjusting Knipex I got a couple of years ago. Additional advantage is consistent length of strip. And no need to pull to strip; plus no forced holding on to the wire itself, which invariables kinks it.

So guys,

Who is rebranding Weidmuller Stripax I assume and who Embla Pressmaster?

Anyone used a similar to VBW/ Stahlwille/ Gedore auto stripper?

This is definitely a Tool From the Old World. MHH Engineering, Ltd. (Now Gedore Torque, formerly TorqueLeader) 5 to 60 ft-lb Torque Meter. I bought it on ebay but the lady was from the next town over and had moved from England. Her husband must have brought it in their move over.

I paid $15 and it's almost like new. The new equivalent is $535.

Generally speaking, the Swedish made Lindstroms are better than the Spanish versions (assuming the cutting edges are undamaged). As the Swedish versions are made of harder steel however, they're more prone to damage (i.e. drop them on a hard floor, and one of the jaws may literally break off).

So guys,

Who is rebranding Weidmuller Stripax I assume and who Embla Pressmaster?
Both Weidmueller and Pressmaster are actual manufacturers of wire strippers and crimp tools. Wiha and Xcelite rebrand the Embla from Pressmaster for example, while Paladin rebrands the Stripaxe (there are plenty of others).

Terminal manufacturers will rebrand their crimp tools as well, and add a hefty markup.

we still use those at work, and are really good at upsetting the apprentices ,
the trick is to show off our strength of grip whilst holding the 1/2 square peg and taking readings , the poor lads never get close to the old fellers like me , mind you we do push the moving side piece with our thumbs ....

Are Irwin XP Quick-grip clamps made in China? ? The label has a German address but can't see anything on the tool so I guess that means China ??

Any Idea about who made this one? Phoenix contact acquired Pressmaster, but this model is made in UK.

IIRC, I've seen that model before (branded as Knipex?), but I don't know who actually makes it (or what company used to make it & got bought up by Phoenix). Couldn't find anything in a search either, just as I've no idea what UK facility produces/ed insulated dies for the Pressmaster MCT. :dunno:

Although not identical, it does reminds me of a Rennsteig R707 001 though, which is German made.
