It won't IME.

FWIW, mine's pre 1992 and they don't have an odor (no S/N, and the size is stamped rather than etched). My Phillips are much newer (made in 2006), and still smell of vanilla.

Mine S/N are 196291 result 24/09/2013, I bought today for 6,70€ had only two in the store,I would have preferred with swiss grip handle but i do not dislike it this.
From what I understand this CAB(Cellulose Acetate Butyrate) transparent red handle are oil and gasoline resistant instead Swiss grip handle are resistant against acetone and thinner so maybe i prefer "CAB" handle for automechanic work

What you posted images of are the classic grips (what my slotted drivers use). The Mulitcraft are the newer ergonomic shape, but art still made of CAB, while the latest Swiss Grip use the Multicraft shape, but are made of Santoprene instead (rubbery/stickier grip than). FWIW, I find both highly useable, though I must say I like the Classic grips better on smaller drivers, as there's more to hold onto in your hand vs. the Multicraft grips on smaller sizes (i.e. 00 Phillips). Fortunately, I've Wiha precision screwdrivers that take up the slack in these cases though.

FWIW, either of the CAB based grips are easier to clean than the Santoprene grips. Do note however they're not impervious to all solvents, such as acetone (gives the surface a cloudy appearance). Much easier to clean grease and oil you'd encounter in automotive use however.

Thanks for info Nanofrog. You know if Santoprene is resistant against gasoline because in datasheet of pb swiss i see that santoprene is resistant to acetone and thinners but did not specify gasoline(i think more aggressive as acetone).i ask you because i have some pb swiss driver santoprene handle and sometime i use to clean my tools with gasoline and it happened several times to melt the handle or part of some tools.
I would not want to ruin my lovely Pb Swiss driver.

Picture above is still bigger than usual but I assume better than before.

It is shown good via Tapatalk but on the web the size difference is obvious.

I told you :)

get some stubby t'ish handle

really like the look of them for 'finishing', i.e. spin up a fixing with powered screwdriver or even std screwdriver and final 'torquing up' with those, or initial undoing/untightening/breaking loose a fixing, but they don't seem very suitable for use on long screw threads/fixings due to the uneven shape, thats great for additional torque, but not so great for 'spinning'...:headscrat

I really Like the "Jorgensen" clamps(made in Tawan)

But did notice the Fixed end release knob markings are back to front?? very odd, Quality is spot on though

Then as hinted before back to the MADE IN GERMANY

VOGEL INOX Joiners squares, also picked up from Ebay from the bargain UK HOT DEALS thread, really friendly helpful guy. quick delivery too

Light weight seem decent quality, I'll wait to use them to judge, but his prices are great so no harm done..

I also picked up an ACESA 1/2" Speed Brace 713S and I wouldn't recommend that at all :( very disappointing, even more so as I didn't really need one as I've managed this far in my life without one, but figured for the price £6.95 I think, I couldn't go too far wrong. but the handle is swivel and poor fit and squeaks like a plague of mice so a definite do not purchase lol...

Still looking for those screw clamp recommendations to outfit a new hobby-shop to compliment these "Jorgensens" and full set of Irwin XP's

That's a good price , you did really well!

Don't worry about the handle. For most uses, you are much better off with either these classic handles, or the multicraft (same material, different shape).

Irrespective of what they are resistant against, the Swissgrip are still quite soft and are nowhere near as durable as what you have!

Absolutely do NOT use gasoline or kerosene on Santoprene (severe reaction).

Take a look at the following: Santoprene Chemical Resistance (.pdf).

Yes, I use them in the way you described, I keep them in a toolbox with carburetor tools only in a room dedicated to carburetors :)

The amount of torque you can apply with this handle is almost as with the impact driver, some old carburetors do require the impact and a good hammer though, but I prefer not to hammer on carb ... if you know what I mean :)

You're welcome. Glad it helps. :)
I think is time PBSwiss update their handles to fully resistant eco friendly unbreakable superb material!!!!

And make them a few mm larger in dia.

Let's send them an email on behalf of all GJ members, how many we are?[emoji16]

I like the classic grips as they are (longer than the Multicraft or SwissGrip), but I do like the Multicraft grips. I just wish they were longer, particularly on PH2 & smaller. PH3 is perfect for me. FWIW, I use the grip shape to quickly ID slotted vs. Phillips. :D

As per an impervious handle ... mill the grip from metal (steel or aluminum).

Nice find. Barely look like they've even been touched, let alone used.

BTW, how are the wire cutters?
Late answer, but the wire cutters actually work very well!

*snip*
@Bhae:

i took some pics of used Brüder Mannesmann tools from our hobby garage:

Especially take a look at pic 3 + 4 :D ;)

@Bhae:
I dont own any KS-Tools tools. So i cant tell you anything. You will probably hear they`re good , others say they`re bad...50/50%.... Same with the other import tools....

I think they`re too expensive. Ok special tools or socket sets sometimes are not to beat or hard to beat in price, but individual tools like pliers for example are too expensive because i can get Knipex for the price, hex keys i can get german made ones for the price, pin punches from germany (Rennsteig) are 50% cheaper (!!) than the KS-tools imported ones (they also have french made punches but even more expensive), Italian hammers which start at 4,64€ (+ vat), german made screwdriver set 5pc. at the "Aldi" store for 7,49 (or 8,49?) , impact sockets from "Ko-ken" are cheaper etc. etc. etc..
So i never saw the need to buy from them.
If i need a low price for sockets etc. then i would buy "Carolus" so at least the money ends at a manufacturer (Gedore) and the price is better or i would buy the sockets at my local car parts dealer where the 1/4" sockets start at 53 cent a piece (+tax)....

They seem to have a good distribution - i was told some Gedore employees work there now - so you see Ks-Tools quite often - they also made it into some wholesale catalogs where you usually only see Gedore, Hazet, Stahlwille etc. so KS-tools is meant as lower priced alternative to the other brands. The only other imported name-brand tools which i saw in these catalogs is "Proxxon" and "Bahco".

Long text still no answer :D

But i think another question which arise is how is Ks-tools compared to Proxxon, King Tony, Kraftwerk, Brüder Mannesmann etc. ??? Since everything is from the same region, but nobody knows where everything is exactly sourced from....?.... So it is always difficult to say how the quality is because every tool might or is sourced from another manufacturer, pliers here, sockets there... so do you can trust their name and the quallity ???

Any updates to this? KS-tools is now being sold here in various places as a premium brand. I downloaded their catalogue and noticed several similarities to Toptul (for instance the extra long combo wrenches). Are these effectively the same brands or does KS rebrand tools from many different (taiwanese) manufacturer?
Anyway, I got a multibit screwdriver and some sockets from KS that seem very good quality.

And grrr, all these PB swiss pictures really tickle! :)

I use mine to pull bugs and **** out of my radiator grill. Though I doubt that's the intended purpose.

Basically a tool that allows you to hook and grab things in hard to tech places and apply some force.

it's a radiator HOSE tool, you get the pointy end between the radiator bung and the hose , you move it around a little than you pull the hose

Hello Jessysirazvan,

Is it possible to measure the diameter of the classic handle for the PH2?

Thanks

Pb swiss Classic handle Ph2 ~23,2mm

Pb swiss Swissgrip handle Ph2 ~28,8mm

Pb swiss Classic handle slotted nr.5 8x1,2x160 ~26,2mm

Facom slotted 8x1,2x175 ~38,9mm

Wiha microfinish slotted 8x1.2x150 ~40.32mm

how you can see facom and wiha handle are more bigger but maybe pb swiss blade are higher quality.
I can say I am very disappointed of Facom blade(steel are to soft) and machining blade.

My son 6 year old helped me to measurements.:thumbup:

Thanks Monte

It's an American style that I want.

I'm leaning away from Stanley (not sure on COO) as I currently have one of their "Graphite" claw hammers that is showing signs of stress on the handle.

So far I've found:

Gedore 1629670 (Discontinued)

Bahco 427-20 (COO?)

Bahco Ergo 529-20-L (COO?)

Bahco Made in Taiwan,quality good.
