it`s epidemic :D

:bounce: ... I never realized they had that in their lineup. Sorta reminds me of the Wiha System 4 or was it the System 6....with the telescopic shaft.
but you're right, it's an epidemic...
they should only belong in one area; not on screwdriver handles :lol: .

I've won an auction on ebay.

1/4 ratchet box from Garant/Stahlwille, NEW!. The Nut Driver is made by PB Swiss.
Complete with shipping, only ~30$
*snip*

Nice score. Reading on some german sites I see that Koken, Stahlwille, PB, Knipex, Käfer are mentioned as sources for the various parts 'zum besten Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis'. Quality for the budget minded.
Something to look out for on ebay.de then. :thumbup:

Have a nice day.

Servus, Monte,

Sorry for the delay.

So you are saying that I should have ordered the screw pliers from ****, too?

I'll give Würth a call one day but currently I don't feel an urgent need to buy Würth products which is better anyway - at least for my budget. ;)

.

Yes i have the Schröder catalog and CD too. I`ll order a couple of them ...

I wish Schröder would print the size of the screwdriver on the top of the handle (such as many other companies do). Apart from that, I like the Schröder screwdrivers.

As for the hex/blade design of the Hazet screwdrivers, I can't help. Have you asked Hazet?

Thanks for the additional pics of your drawer cabinet. I am envious.
Buying such cabinets new is rather crazy. I think it would be better to spend the money on tools. But on the other hand, I really like to be organized.

Thanks for the drill press pics. I haven't made up my mind yet. Speaking of new drill presses, I'm contemplating Alzmetall, Maxion and this Elmag. Strands would be nice as well. Wörner's range of products is pretty small these days.

how about this 3/4" Ratchet from Carolus for 57,50 € ?

Thanks for the suggestion. At this price it's tempting. But I wouldn't hesitate to invest EUR 20 more in order to get the Facom if the Facom with its 72 teeth is worth the price. I emailed Facom about the production place of the K.152. I'll keep you posted about the information I'll hopefully receive. Now if the Carolus were a dual pawl ratchet decision would be easy.

BTW, do you know which company makes the Forum (Gewema) hexagon tubular box spanners?

Have a nice evening,

Chreese

Hey, that Powerbolt looks pretty spiffy--there seems to be a feature that others don't have. I've looked into getting a tower pincer in the past, and looking at that brings my attention further. :)

i can spot a small "Germany" on them so i guess it`s Böcker, Feelisch + Cantow, Spiess or Framür. The "Forum" brand belongs to the EDE company like the "Format" brand so if the "Format" ones are from "Feelisch" ( source ) then maybe the "Forum" ones too.

Monte, I am so happy to see there is another tool nut with just as bad of an addiction as me. I just ordered 5 sets of Wera drivers off ebay. (3 sets of screw drivers, 1 torx, and 1 hex.) I had been wanting to order some for the last 3 years after working with them at the Aerospace firm and completely forgot about them until reading your thread :).

yeah they look spiffy ! I even would say they look peachy, snazzy and swanky :D
They say because of the patented leverage mechanism the force you need to apply is reduced by 50%.
They are already on my wishlist for santa claus :) and should fit good to these pliers:

Interesting to see that the Kraftwerk website offers several Hi-five products like the rat. wrenches and ratchets.

Man, I want a taste of Solingen....
The QuattroGripp and the Powerbolt :drool:.
...but I can't find any information on the Powerbolt. Can you tell us about the main product feature?

EDIT: Hah, I posted this 3 mins. after you did. Fantastico!...Thanks for the explanation.
Is NWS readily available in your area? LUX carries many of their stuff?

The handles feel incredible! They are the by far the most comfortable pliers I've ever handled.

In excitement from waiting for the last week, I searched and stumbled upon a few interesting graphic demos of the NWS's Combimax pliers as well as the QuattroGripp.

@superautobacs:

NWS is available here at 4 stores, but they are also available rebadged as Lux, Kraftwerk, Projahn, Phoenix Contact, Matador, Walter and Berner.

The QuattroGripps are nice, watch the video Muffin Man posted ;). They also can be opened wider than other pliers, same like the new version of the Cobra. Actually the dude at the store told me that the NWS pliers had this feature first but they weren`t fast enough with patenting it so Knipex borrowed the design for their new Cobras....

The "Lux" tools are available at the "OBI" Home-Depot style stores. The insulated/VDE pliers and a couple of water pump pliers as well as several pincers (see above) are supplied by NWS, the regular pliers with red/black handles seem to be from "Will"/Germany and they have a import (?) line of pliers with blue handles (the pincers have a "HR" stamped. "HR" wrenches which i saw were made in India)

"LUX" Pdf catalog: click (Pliers see page 18 et seq.)

@Muffin Man:
Good to hear they arrived !! I also like the handle very much, they are "grippier" than anything else. They are also a bit thicker so you don`t even notice if you cut something, there is no noticeable or barely a recoil.

Monte,

Do you own any pliers where the handle is perpendicular to the jaws? What advantages and disadvantages do these "perpendicular" pliers have over conventional pliers (where jaws and handle are parallel to each other)? I really like the looks and apparent function of the Kraftwerk Combi Ergo 45.

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks for the info Monte. :)
Does NWS have any promotions happening for the Christmas season? :D

:)
From NWS itself i never saw a promo but I`m sure that dealers will have promos around christmas. But i only paid 35.- € anyway for a 3 pliers set thats already 30% off so i don`t think its getting any cheaper ...

@ Dave:
I don`t own any of these bent/angled pliers, i played around with a Wiha Inomic plier which i liked very much. Depending on what you do and how do you have to hold the pliers sometimes these are better.
The NWS pliers are available rebadged as "Matador" from www.matador-tools.com

Wiha info

But here`s a video what explains it better i think:

Servus, Monte,

Thanks for your reply.

Those NWS pliers :drool: I like the design of the Matador version best.

How about this... only 349.- + tax... :)

In my Gewema catalogue they want EUR 100 more. That would be EUR 449 which is quite an amount of money for what you get (compared to Vigor tool boxes, for example). Besides, it does not provide me with enough space.

One of my dealers who carries both Elmag and Optimum suggested Elmag. He claims that their service (availability of spare parts etc.) is better. I tend to believe him.

As for the Forum hexagon tubular box spanners, an EDE employee confirmed what we already knew: They are made in Germany. However, he was unwilling to share the manufacturer with me.

What do you think about BGS? Does BGS make anything or is it just an import company?

First....
Chreese, you officially turned over this thread to its fiftieth page! Woohoo :rocker: ;)

BGS, to me, smells like imports. I notice quite a few hand tools that are Taiwanese/Chinese.

:)
... But i only paid 35.- € anyway for a 3 pliers set thats already 30% off so i don`t think its getting any cheaper ...

My Euro>Can currency exchange isn't that great, so I consulted with my favourite currency exchange website. The result was :shocking:
That's a really good price; I expected they'd fetch a higher price than that.
Not complaining though. :D

a Bahco fan ! :)
what does the package of the sawing blades for the "301" saw say: "Made in..." ? (germany ?)

mmhhh Staedtler compass.... :thumbup:

Sorry, forgot to post an answer. Yes, you're right. :)

Yeah, the Staedtler compass was something that my father gave me in the 80's. Very nice quality; it certainly beats anything else that I've used.

We mostly have Optimum drills here, never saw a Elmag here. But i would look into old used drills aswell.

I don`t know if there are any quality differences between the manufacturers of the tube wrenches so i probably would buy what my dealer offers....

BGS only imports afaik, i don`t see anything what`s not imported..., just like SW-Stahl, KS-Tools , Condor etc.
... tools which come in red or blue plastic cases are always suspicious :)

Hello Twostall,

I can help you out with that question.

The sliding-T is from KTC
The ratcheting adaptor is from Ko-ken
The speed ring is from Nepros (KTC essentially)

Thanks for the COO info ! Only wondered if they globally offer the same stuff.

Yes the Staedtler ones are nice. "Rotring" are good too.

superautobacs: Thanks for the info. I didn't realize the adapter & speed ring were seperate. I've been curious for a while about Japanese tools - you've given me a starting place.

Servus, folks,

First....
Chreese, you officially turned over this thread to its fiftieth page! Woohoo :rocker: ;)

My pleasure. And many more pages to come.

We mostly have Optimum drills here, never saw a Elmag here. But i would look into old used drills aswell.

Yep, that's what I (will) do. Elmag is easily available here. And it also seems to be rather common in (some areas of) Bavaria.
Maybe even a new German entry-level drill press (the Alzstar 15-T/S, for example) is within reach. Its drilling capacity would meet my needs but I could use a greater distance from spindle to column and a greater drilling depth.

I don`t know if there are any quality differences between the manufacturers of the tube wrenches so i probably would buy what my dealer offers....

Indeed, price and availability are the key-factors to me as well.

Congratulations to start the 50th page :) Another 50 and i run out of tools :D ;)

First, I seriously doubt that. Second, give me more shop time and a digital camera and I'll try to help out.

Many more pages of goodness is to come for sure! :3gears:

@Monte,
I'm glad we get the same stuff as over there (so far?).
Oh, I got a couple of new Bahco Ergo file handles (Portugal) for $3 each. :D
So, i've got Sweden, Germany, Italy, Portugal; but ;) I'm still short of Spain, France, Argentina, and Taiwanese stuff...

@twostall:

Getting the KTC sliding-T might be a challenge, but you may have luck finding the Ko-ken adaptor through Southbay Tools, and you should be able to get the Nepros speed ring and a matching Sliding-T from nepros.net.

Monte posted another (good) option; here's another one (also German):

Good luck getting any NWS over here. I ended up getting Moose and another English buddy to help me out on that front.

Having said that, with the amount of stuff you seem to know, I suspect you have an inside line on those too!

On a positive note (for a German tool fiend), I do fly to Munich on Sunday...:D

Nepros is available for US customers here: http://www.nepros.net/ (shipping from Japan)
The quick spinner in 1/4" is 12,95 $. A sliding T-handle in 1/4" 11,95 $. Maybe they can help you with KTC tools also (Nepros belongs to KTC). Stahlwille is the NA distributor for Ko-ken.

@chreese:
Alzmetall is a complete different league but they are sweet as hell . i fell in love when i saw them live at a fair. If you want to afford one get it ! But it sounds you need something like this: :)

$3 ?? you **** :D
Then you need the Bahco Ergo screwdrivers from Spain, individual Bahco wrenches and sockets from Argentina (if you don`t have the USA version) , pliers from france, and the last you don`t want :D

After you have completed the international Bahco collection you can continue with the international Facom collection :D
screwdrivers from France, crimping plier from Japan, open end and deep offset wrenches from Taiwan, Torx and socket wrenches from italy and cutter knife from England....

Thanks,

I bought the set from Monte, who had the set listed in his Classified thread :)

I've been searching vigorously for a US/North American tool distributor. But nothing has shown up.

Going to Germany, eh. What's in your list of to-do's....as far as tool shopping goes?

...and the last you don`t want :D

:lol: There's not much that interests me. Somehow my brain wants me to think that a Taiwanese-made Bahco isn't the same (?);)

:D

That'll keep anyone busy for a while. :lol_hitti
If that was my mission, I'll need to source the Bost pliers, socket wrenches, and ratchets too then.

Hello.

I've been looking for a set of 1/2" drive sockets. I found a set from a company called Bahco. I saw that you mentioned them here. I've never heard of them. I assume they are good quality? I would post the Link to the set. But the website isnt working.:mad:

Well, I guess what we need is a combination of the Gedore 1993 GU-10 XL and the 1993 GU-3. If the 1993 GU-10 XL were a bit shorter and less expensive I would seriously contemplate it.

sorry totally forgot about these....from Ko-ken....several length available, with and without plastic handle, locking and non locking: (20-24 teeth, dual pawl)

Servus, folks,

The NWS 1096 series is brand-new, isn't it? I can't find it on the NWS website.

@Monte

If I remember correctly, you already own Beta screwdrivers. What's your view on them? Is the money well spent on them even if one isn't quite badly addicted to screwdrivers?

@chreese:
Alzmetall is a complete different league but they are sweet as hell . i fell in love when i saw them live at a fair.

Last year, I checked out the Alzstar 15-T/S at a local dealer. Yeah, this drill is sooo smooth. Its sound is music to my ears.

Put a digi cam on your wish list for x-mas ;) :)

I haven't decided what to get for X-mas this year but I'm almost sure that I prefer tools over a camera.

Thanks for bringing the Ko-Ken ratchets to my attention. What's your source for Ko-Ken tools in Germany?

Edit:
Any experiences with Betec-Tools and Toolsandstorage?

I'd greatly appreciate information about Nepros and KTC. What's the difference? Nepros tools are products of KTC, aren't they? Same level of quality?

Have a nice day,

Chreese

@ TireTracks,
Welcome to GJ!
In addition to Monte's response, here's a couple links with some information about the different origins (if that matters to you?) of Bahco tools: Link and Link.

@Monte

I am now watching this space with even greater interest than usual:rocker::bowdown:

@superautobacs

Monte was kind enough to give me a few places to look at and also my German mechanic colleague will be showing me some of his favourite spots. I will mainly be looking for Hazet/Stahlwille/NWS, but I'm also really interested to see some of the lesser-known stuff, as posted by you guys in this thread.:)

Servus, folks,

The NWS 1096 series is brand-new, isn't it? I can't find it on the NWS website.

The last update of the product catalog seems to be from 2007/8 . In this PDF (last page) you see the "Powerbolt" and the "S-pipe" wrench which also don`t appear on the website. It`s from 2008. The 45 degree angled "Combi Ergo" aka "Peace Maker" combination pliers seem to be the newest introduction.

ps: a older NWS catalog when they also offered silver/blue and silver/red handles: click

Here a info about KTC and the Nepros "Mirror" tools click
Nepros seem to be the upper line of tools, never saw them live but from the pics they look really good. Some pics of their leather and wood handle ratchets and other stuff was already posted in this thread. Looks really nice.

I get Ko-ken through a local car parts wholesaler, they only have a 3 pc. impact socket set in their catalog , so everything else is special order only. Just looked at my ko-ken catalog from 2002 when i picked it up at the "Essen Motor Show" where the distributor from Luxembourg had a booth. Koken is available from Betec and www.mattes-werkzeuge.de. Betec also has Grip-on pliers - the only store i found. But never ordered from one of these stores, also not from the store in Holland. The US prices on Nepros are much lower.....

I will keep you updated about the NWS source - no email yet , hopefully tomorrow...

yes i have a Beta screwdriver:

The handle is triangular then there is a round zone and again a triangular part where the blade comes out. The black parts a rubber, the orange part is glossy plastic. The tip fits. Would i buy it ? I don`t know. There are too many brands which are easier to get here , so if you loose one or finally one is used up it would be easier to replace 1 single driver from a known brand than to find a Beta one in a couple of years - who knows how long they will be around. The dealer here for example don`t sell Beta anymore so i personally would be upset if i have a complete set with lets say 10 drivers and i can`t get a replacement so i would have 9 Betas and 1 from a other manufacturer. No way :D If you`re not mentally deranged like me then probably i would buy them or whatever i could get cheaper. I personally don`t like glossy plastic on hand tool handles except translucent glossy OG handles, or on electric tools especially the orange glossy ones are really good ;) . So i guess i would buy a set of Athlet brand , Wiha 3K or something else..........
