Swissgrips like these black ones are made of Santoprene, with a hefty dose of vanilla essence added to make them smell nice. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santoprene

One change I noticed recently is the nice metal endcaps are no longer embossed like these ones, but just have printed symbols...

Cutting cost in order to stay competive I think; hopefully the quality stays intact.

Wanted to try PB Swiss to see what all the fuss is about. Precision for work and the 1/4 driver for home use.

First impressions. ESD phillips is a very similar design to the Wiha ESD but smooth and round so does not provide as much grip. There is a lightly textured part below the writing but I don't hold the driver there so not much use for me. Feels plasticy, nothing special.

From looking at pictures I expected the Swiss Grip handle on the 1/4 screwdriver to be hard plastic but it's very grippy feeling rubber. Feels very nice in the hand and is immaculately finished. Very impressed with the quality. Almost too nice to get dirty.

pb2.jpg

Would you mind checking the diameter of the driver and how is the fitment of the bit; i.e. snuggy and secure , easy to detach, etc.

When you have a bit of time

Thank you

31828837mg.jpg

I bought three pairs of the fusion line with 5 years guarantee some time ago and they did not last much and thrown them away.A friend of mine still buys them because they feel nice!

On the other hand I have few pairs of Bridgedale for 8 years now and still ok as well as a pair of Icebreaker for 3 years and also very good.

The one brand I wanted to try is the darntough which they are guarranted for life, they say...

Hi. Diameter of the shaft is 10mm and the diameter of the widest (approx) part of the handle is 28.8mm. The bits are held in via magnet not friction so there is some play when wiggled. The positive of this is that the bits are easy to remove with oily fingers. I have noticed that the socket on the PB swiss is not as deep compared to other 1/4 drivers so more of the bit is exposed which also makes them easier to remove. You can see this in the pic below. Bottom driver is Wiha. Note, I am using Wiha bits.

As you have found out, it's a soft handle! Better than some, but you might prefer the Classic handle, shown on top in the picture.

PB tend to promote the Swiss Grip the most at the moment because they are the newest, but for most applications the Classic hard handle is preferable.

Hello experts,

What do you think between these three angle grinders in the order presented? Is there any other brand with similar features that is not made in Ch***?

Flex and Suhner seems to be almost double the price with Suhner very difficult to find it online.

WEV 10-125 QUICK: 2800-10500(8800 at rated load)rpm/ vibration 6ms, 2.1Kg, output 590W, 90 deg head rotation (anti-kick, constant speed, Restart protection, Soft start)

FLEX L 3410 VR QUICK: 2900-1100(rated speed 11700???)rpm/ vibration 7ms, 2.2Kg, output 880W, 90 deg??? head (anti-kick, constant speed, Restart protection, Soft start)

Suhner UWG 10-R125: 4200-1000(rated speed ???)rpm/ vibration ???, ???Kg, output ???W, 90 deg??? head (anti-kick???, constant speed, Restart protection, Soft start??)

THANK YOU!

I've got the cheapest German made vari-speed. For light home use I've never found it lacking in power. Price wise it's surprisingly cheap.

Did not see the soft-grip ESD when I made the order. Thanks for costing me some more money.:p
:p;)
I think I'm going to visit a couple of specialist dealers regarding the chainsaw. I'm a bit out of touch with garden tools that look like something out of F1. With Stihl larger models it's dealer hand-over only with instruction.

This Dolmar seems to have a Canadian made chain
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002RWJLXG/?tag=atomicindustr-21
afaik the Dolmar chains and bars are made by Blount/Oregon...
You also could check out these: https://www.bosch-garden.com/gb/en/garden-tools/garden-tools/chainsaws-199968.jsp
(maybe from Hungary)

I don´t expect that socks last that many years (ok depends on the shoe too... fitment, sneaker or work boots...). The Bridgedale and Darn Tough socks do look interesting. Meanwhile i got me a couple of socks from Veith and Woolpower too. But it seems we only need one pair from Darn Tough ! :) Wrightsock and Wigwam might be other options...

some screws from Spax for various projects:

The last "Made in Germany" labelled screwdrivers are these:
https://www.hazet.de/produktkatalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_2230_2230060&products_id=896086214
A while ago they offered "M.i. Germany" drivers with these handles:
https://www.hazet.de/produktkatalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_2230_2230040&products_id=896056453
But it seems they replaced them in favour of the slovenian ones.
No coo on these so what do you guys think?

Ok, if you use them every day or very often. I am just wearing these when hiking a bit or it is really cold.

The point I wanted to make is that the Smartwool lasted really for a few times.

No you don't understand. I wear the Red Wing #2233. There's something about the underside of the steel toe that wears holes in my socks. My toe rubs all the way through the lining and into the steel. In return, the steel rubs a hole though my socks on the big toe. They are are brutal boots.

How can you tell the Witte protop ll are not made by Oplast in Slovenia ?

In my experience if you cannor see "Made in Germany" then it is not.

I go the Hazet 803 and paid a premium to find out they are not made in Germany.

I mean it is ok if not made in Germany, it couls be made in Japan or USA as long as we know what we buy.

Seems to be an awful lot of the plastic inside the German made electric Stihl MSE 170. ..
Maybe I should get a 2-stoke ?

A lot of people "in the know" buy corded/battery chainsaws but I wanted gas power so I bought an MS 170. I found out later that PPE chaps aren't rated for electric chainsaws. From what I've read, chain-stopping fibers in the chaps will stop a gas motor but the electric motors keep spinning. If I needed a pole saw, though, I would consider a battery-powered electric since it is rigidly fixed away from the operator.

I can't tell you anything about the amount of plastic other than vids I've seen show the MS has about as much plastic as the big Stihls.

Funnily enough I did come across a test of a normal pair of chaps with an electric saw on youtube, and they did work OK, or at least similar to with a 2-stroke. Both had some penetration but it's difficult to gauge how much give a human leg has underneath.

Koken XZN M10 1/2 drive and Gedore XZN M8 3/8 drive.

Koken seems to have better quality control and attention to detail. For example, the locking ratchet ball does not engage properly in two of the sides of the Gedore bit and if pull with force will disengage; not a problem but still.

What I do not like about Koken is that they have no knurling something that Gedore shines at as you can really turn the bit by hand. If they add a knurling I would go all koken.

Fitment in the bolts is tight with both of them so not issues.

Gedore you can really turn it by hand and manoeuvre because of the knurling which I like more.

So it is your call.

Not sure if serious?

The box states 'made in Germany' as does each handle. I would guess that they are proudly made in Germany. My set of Wittes had German flag colours on the front.

Actually, you are right!

Just checked my Hazets, and the older ones with the triangular hard handles are marked 'Germany' but the newer 803's are not marked at all! Also, the blades appear to have a different finish!

Like yourself, I don't mind if they are made in Slovenia particularly, I just want to ensure I pay Slovenian money not German money!!

Early indications are that these are decent drivers though! But ask me in a decade and I'll know for sure!
