Guys since everyone is talking about adjustables I would like to get one.

What would be the best i terms of tightness and "grabbing" onto bolts?

I am between Irega, Top and Monkey Zero I think.

Thanks!

The Top Hyper Monkey Zeros replaced the Bahcos in my toolbox. No comparison, IMO. The spring-loaded split worm of the Top wrenches is really great.

So here's another round of recent tool purchases. Combo of Chads, KCTool, and Amazon.de

Loving the Knipex 85 01 250 self-adjusting/locking pliers. So quick and easy to use... probably want two to use two at the same time hah!

The Gedore cable shears (that I'm holding) work really well. States that it will cut 6mm but I only have 1/4" cable so I figured I'd test that @ 6.35mm. It made the cut but I had to put some beans into it! Good stuff and a real clean cut. I also love that it has blades that can be replaced.

My friend snaked my 225 NWS Combimax pliers from me so I got some Gedores to fill that gap and I haven't used the blue/grey padded handles so I wanted to give those a try.

Got various wire strippers partly to see what I find works the best, and partly for versatility. The angled Cobolts are my second pair so I can keep em handy!

Snagged this set on an Amazon deal. Finally got a decent set of pliers and such.

I have the first knipex above of 160mm and they are very good although used very lightly.

Please report back after you have contacted Gedore.

A little bit more info. Gedore has not gotten back to me, but I had also reached out to KC Tool and they provided their typically excellent service. Within 90 minutes of my email from their online form, Chris from KC Tool and reported back to me that their measurement came in at 190mm. I also found this picture on kctoolco.com that also leads to the inference that Gedore simply misnamed the tool. The 8133 "200" looks to be just a little longer than the 160mm side cutters, and about the same length as the 7" waterpump pliers.

2951797__76101.1495124476.jpg

As an aside but related to your point concerning Gedore customer service, when I asserted that these pliers may have a manufacturer defect (mislabeled at the Austrian factory) Gedore Tools Inc. disturbingly replied that they consider your vender responsible for fulfilling Gedore's manufacturer warranty, and that they don't deal with consumers at all. They also made assertions (perhaps accurate, perhaps not, but in my view completely irrelevant so long as the tools are genuine) that Amazon doesn't always buy their Gedore tools from Gedore Tools.

But leave online sales aside. I asked the question "what if your dealer goes out of business," and did not get a straight answer.

I own quite a few Gedore tools, and have been very satisfied with their performance. However, I found these responses disquieting, and inconsistent with the excellent customer service I've received from US distributors of Felo, Wiha, Stahlwille, Neutrik, Knipex, and Rennsteig. That has to be considered going forward...

Nice boxes. I always just get boring brown boxes. There is never enough boxes to go around. My dog likes boxes to. My kids like them. Boxes can be used to make forts and hide from those crazy things people call wives.

I do like some Gedore tools that is why I have a few. However, due to being a huge corporation dealing B2B and due to their customer service they are not my first choice or second or...

I own two torque wrenches from them and the 20-200 Nm malfunctioned. No response from them what so ever.

Kudos to TBS that they did send it to Gedore and back in few days/ weeks and sorted it out. How many of us though could visit that shop im Germany or any other online retailer!!!

Heyco 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 socket set. Everything is stamped Germany except the 1/4 ratchet which i think is Taiwan and the bit holder which is West Germany.423d3ee66c517b20799cfdd4e436cb57.jpgced232e8b61b07d31520d12f817d977a.jpg5293e58980b828eee66705a4702ef964.jpg

Spotted these CT Brand nut spinners on Ebay. Familiar looking handles :headscrat

My experience with re-branding is minimal however the resume us that a product made by a manufacturer can vary a lot in quality.

I own the Felo wooden screwdrivers as per photo below.

Once I visited Hornbach in Germany and saw the same exact set with a detail that made all the difference.

There was no black tip, I suppose, hardened but instead the nickel plating was all the way to the edge of the tip and the workmanship was not up to the scratch.

Of course it could these sets may have been at fault however I am quite sure the quality can be different even within the same brand.

For critical applications it pays to buy the original.

My experience with both the vaccum cleaner and the little drill is very positive atm.

The hoover does an amazing job and kitchen has never been so clean before.

I used the drill to assembly some wood furniture, undo bolts and screws, drive screws up to 5× 70mm in wood as well as drilling wall and bricks.

It is a very good drill and remains to see how it holds up. The chuck is not like my Metabo`s Rhom but very good and holds well with no profound eccentricity.

Sometimes if you are in hurry to unscrew the attachment whilst undoing the chuck but overall the ergonomics are very good. All the attachments work flawlessly.

The torque of 30 Nm is plenty to give your wrist a good twist. a58081df8a41192a48b6922f9ea167e7.jpgd7d0024e35194baab889ccb4ae2d9646.jpg02385881ced8438e128a23169dfbffda.jpg0707a09e3a00ea5bdd2b9a993ff27e4c.jpga40c1b269e5694e2685a6c01a2d421c3.jpg03ab85b0d068c93a4e7c698e9e9e8a6b.jpg8ee96ede32699b05539037f49bf68c18.jpg9e59df98dca1f419c8d531a43530243c.jpg

I saw this and immediately went to Amazon and bought one for myself. It will sit next to my little Bosch 12v impact gun that uses the same batteries and charger.

I assumed the Wiha handled nut spinners were knock off rather than rebrands. Not certain though.

We use a simpler version of that Bosch drill at work without the attachments. Work pays for them so they get thrown around and abused. They are tough and also surprisingly good at light torque work like assembling notebooks. Awesome little things.

How's the runout on those chucks? I have a fairly recent purchase of the 'regular' 12v drill and so far I'm a little disappointed in the run out/wobble when I have a drill bit in it...

Hahah, I understand you very well. If yo have the batteries it is not expensive.

I think Bosch is very good on the 12V but yet to be proved on the long term.

I am more Metabo and Fein if I would have to get to the 18V.

How's the runout on those chucks? I have a fairly recent purchase of the 'regular' 12v drill and so far I'm a little disappointed in the run out/wobble when I have a drill bit in it...

With regards to the runout it may be a little bit but it is difficult to say with naked eye. I have a dial gauge and once I get some time I can do Metabo vs Bosch measurements.

Elora number punches, centre punch, hey keys, universal shears and clamp. I think the clamp is just a rebadged Grip On.11a895d7be0c31aa4497c9fc0e9a4ce3.jpg

Heyco brake spring pliers and screwdriver set. The screwdrivers are West German so must be old stockda2fa145e740cfa1e5e314639ba5db54.jpgfca7d7d14757beac8e8f285d027c938f.jpg

The Elora definitely looks like a Grip-on rebadge. I'm guessing it has "MADE IN SPAIN" stamped on the reverse side exactly where the Elora logo is. Here's my identical Grip-on-rebadged Proto version of your Eloras, along with a similar actual Grip-on version.

I also have a couple Elora locking pliers with some more on the way. Curiously, both Elora locking pliers I have are Knipex rebadges, not Grip-on. Here's a picture as well of my Knipex-rebadged Elora pipe grip locking pliers next to the actual Knipex version.

I'm wondering if Elora rebadges both vendors for their various locking pliers, or if they switched vendors, meaning you'll either get Grip-on or Knipex depending on if you get old or new stock.IMG_20180709_223720227.jpgIMG_20180709_223804251.jpg

I got everything from amazon for an absolute bargain of a price. I was expecting the socket sets just to be empty cases as I’ve had in the past when amazon have something going really cheap but its just the case, tray or a part from the set you actually get.

I really like the screwdriver handles but haven’t had the chance to use them at work yet to find out how good they are when my hands are covered in grease and oil.

Wiha Microfinish PH1 and Long Life folding rule. Sold as Wiha but has no Wiha branding.

Was surprised that the microfinish is hard plastic. Thought it would be more rubbery.

I have had some chance to see both from close and the microfinish is nice to touch and work with. The soft finish felt like a gum on my hands and it was not in the summer.

Very nice drivers however on higher sizes the handles are becoming really large and it is not easy to store and transfer them around.

When you are talking adjustable wrenches, one thing to remember is which way the worm gear is threaded. These Channellock branded Iregas are done the other way from the Bahcos, and therefore is much harder to use for me as I am used to the Bahco style. I close it when I want to open it and the other way round.

NorthSea92 posted some awesome Heyco tool sets earlier, this is a used set that I recently bought for a low price. It's unfortunately missing some items though.

One thing recently is that I received these Orbis pliers as a gift. Great pliers, and a good addition to my domestic electrical work kit.

How many ways is there to turn a 6mm inside hex? :)

And, just for fun, some BIG tools. All Swedish made except for the Gedore wrench/spanner.

The answer is presumably so that the company has a range of brands to place at certain price points based on geography/branding value / advertising quantity etc. Just like VAG has Skoda, VW, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini & Bugatti (& others?) in order to have a product for every taste in every market.

They seem to have effectively closed down every small brand they have taken over, I now try to avoid any Stanley branded products in protest but the likes of me (and I expect, most of GJ) are <0.1% of the market. Most people do not know and do not care, more's the pity.

I wonder if this general world-trend will reverse within my lifetime?
I agree too, Outdated. I dislike companies like Stanley-B&D, Cooper Tools, Apex ,SNA EU ,etc. who kill famous brands..............

Hi, there are the Wiha Soft Finish Grip and the Wiha Micro Finish Grip.
The Micro Finish Grip is more Oil resistent and easier to clean. I
have the Torx ones.

Hi. I have one of both the soft grip and microfinish that i bought to try. I find the softgrip is more grippy with dry or wet hands so I wasn't convinced. Just tried them with oily hands and the difference is night and day (as seen on the awesome German tool reviews on youtube). The microfinish really comes into its own with oily hands. Wish they made handles with alternate portions of both finishes.

As some others, I jumped on the Padre sale on amazon.de. Spent under €60 and got this:

IMG_1944.png

The stamps and the hex keys are clearly marked as Made in Germany, but the wrenches are only stamped with "Germany". All items are marketed as Made in Germany though, so it's a bit confusing.

This is the marking on the hex keys:

IMG_1947.png

But this is the marking on the wrenches:

IMG_1939.png

They come in a box with these markings though:

So, does anyone know for sure where Padre wrenches are made?

Finally got myself a Waku ladder. 6 step extendable to 6.4m. Made in Germany.

I have borrowed one of these a few times, and the first time I did, it was a 'I gotta get me one of these' moment. It is like walking up a staircase, they are so solid. Light enough to comfortably carry around too.

$1078 AUD. (684 EUR, 797 USD)

Those handles might be familiar but, the blades need to be satin finished and more refined :dunno:

I agree they're knockoffs, but have Wiha metric and inch nutdrivers with pollished shafts. The longer shaft style were satin, short shaft was polished, at least when I bought mine. Polished didn't have the size stamped on the socket, satin did. Odd but that's what they did at that time, 5-10 yrs ago.

Hey Australian GJs,

[Sorry in advance about this topic not being "tool old worldish."]

I believe that since Mac Tools (Precision Torque) and Kincrome AU (Lok On) are both owned by Stanley Black and Decker, the bolt flat grabbing technology is the same or similar.

Here is a YouTube video on Kincrome's Lok On sockets:
Lok On.

I own Mac's Precision Torque (Mac PT) shallow and deep impact sets in 1/2" drive. I would be interested in purchasing a Kincrome Lok On chrome socket set in either 1/4" or 3/8" drive.

I would appreciate to hear your experiences with Kincrome's above socket technology below.

Thanks,

Dave
