Sorry, I thought I answered this a while ago, but when I just now went hunting for my own reply, I couldn't find it. This was the review I was referring to in particular. It's in German, so you may need to translate it, but it's got some good info and a couple pictures to go along with it:

https://www.amazon.de/gp/customer-reviews/R1G66NLW8K3R9/

mrspeed,

The above link you posted from Amazon is for the Knipex 41 34 165 straight nose locking pliers. It isn't for the Knipex 41 44 200 pliers angled nose locking pliers which I purchased a while back.

Yeah, that's a good point. I couldn't find more than one review for the 41 44 200 though, which is why I asked. The 41 34 165 looks like it's essentially the same plier, just shorter and with a non-angled jaw. Of all the critical reviews on the 41 34 165, none of them seemed to take issue with the straight jaw itself, so I wasn't sure whether or not the issues were shared by the 41 44 200. There are several more reviews that echoed the same sentiment on Amazon.com, just not as detailed or with pictures.

It sounds like you're pretty happy with them though, so I may put them back on my wish list after all. At least the angled pliers anyway.

That Gedore box looks quite nice, I like the push down handles VS the two independent handles. I'm a big fan of the Cantilever box. I currently have the larger Facom and a USAG. The USAG doesn't have quite the same quality feel as the Facom. It's amazing how much stuff you can fit in these and still have them not be a total mess to sort through. Again, nice find on the Gedore, Post more pics once you have it setup:)

Finally put tools in the gedore box(mostly new stuff, I gave a lot of old tools to my son, who is starting his own car hobby stuff etc.). And why not a new box and new tools...(and maybe I am a bit too much a tool polisher nowadays :bounce:

I was suprised how much weight you can put in there...I know there is propably too much stuff in there, but I carry it only in garage and I like for most used tools next to car or other project and no need to go get them from drawers. Maybe if I were a pro I would have tool boxes and service carts etc...

I didn’t organiced the tools so much, only for the stahlwille box 13 wrenches I cut some foam so they sit nice in place.

I have in the box:

Stahlewille box 13 wrenches
Hazet 600lg long wrenches
Stahlwille 3/8 inch socket set
1/2 inch impact sockets from Hazet, Stahlwille, Facom, Ko-ken
1/2 inch long sockets Hazet
Ratchets, extensions and joints from Hazet, Ko-ken, Stahlwille, Facom, Dean
Pliers and locking pliers from Knipex, Stahlwille, 3 peaks
Screwdrivers and bits from Wera, Wiha, Hazet, Vessel
Hammers from Picard and Wiha.

I am really happy with the Gedores cantilever, it’s really sturdy no wobbly at all and I imagine it can hold weight more than I can put tools in there

Does anyone have any experience with the Gedore D 32 FMU-2 Socket set 3/4 "UD profile?

Not sure on the UD profile socket versus the standard socket.

Also I'm keen to know if its made in Germany.

Thank you, this is exactly the info I was looking for!

It looks to me like Bollman-Selzer are the big ones that supply Knipex, NWS, Elora, Heyco, and I'm sure many others.

Dolex appears to supply Facom, based on the design, which makes sense, since they're both French.

For Bahco, I looked at the locking pliers on their website (below), and all their pliers appear identical to Grip-on. Are you saying they are the supplier of Grip-on, Snap-on, etc. and that Grip-on doesn't actually make their own? Or does Bahco no longer make their own pliers and instead now just sources them from Grip-on? Or am I misunderstanding entirely?

https://www.bahco.com/en/s/grip-and-welding-pliers/ea-7e-30-17-77-ee-16-3d-44-a6-15-1c-a3-51-07-ba/

Facom seem to make their own 500 & T5 series. They always have different release trigger than Dolex, which from my experience easier to use than the Dolex Version.
Beta, SAM, Acesa do have similar Lock grip pliers with Dolex.

Some guy on ebay in quebec is selling old stock Elora 'quatrolit' screwdriver sets. Not sure how old they are. They seem decent but I haven't used them much yet. Being marked W. Germany, even if they kept stamping them like that for a few years, they must be 25 years old.

apologies for crummy photo quality.

As far as im aware Grip-On makes nothing for Facom. They're either made in France in their own factory or come from Taiwan from a Stanley factory.

Weller SP 15L, had no coo when bought however don't bother as the quality is S**t.

I have used it in total 3h in 2 years and even the tip bended possibly because of crappy metal. It does not hold a constant temp and you would be struggling with almost anything but simple small jobs.

Please suggest something decent for occasional jobs around the house, car, etc.

Press your account name on the up right corner and find alblum, you can upload pictures there.

Facom's most popular locking pliers including T5 series and 501 series slip joint are made in France by Facom's own factory.
They have their regular single setting 513&517 series made in Chinese stanley factory.
580 series automatic locking grip are also made in China, rebranded from the Newell design.
Only the 520, 504 and some other Metalworking clamping pliers seem to be made by Grip On.

Trains, sugar or mining there?

I have two steam train lines and six old sugar mills in the area.
All ran steam power near the time they were shut down. Now most are stripped out ruins.

Possibly sugar cane or some other "plant" from what I can guess, I remember at the base there was a place where someone would hand feed some bushels and it would run up to top, if you look at the pic there are some huge belts driving pulleys, the machine is full intact

Chopping sugar cane stalks into sections and pressing the juice out of them? The fiber stalk was dried and fed the fires under the pots cooking the juice into a syrup that is processed into granules. I am not sure of all the details but one ingenio here still operates 24-7 except the month around xmas. It is a process that is hard to restart if stalled out.

Aside from the mower, are the rest of your Husqvarna tools holding up?

All good information! Thank you, all.
The other tools still work, no problems so far. The dealer recommended Stihl though :)

Some of the cheaper products are made in France too, such as GYSMI 160P. As far as I can trust the user reviews, many people like GYS welders for ease of use. But there is a problem with the cost of repairs... So now I'm thinking, is it worth buying GYS welders in stock, or Ukrainian Paton will be enough? :headscrat
Do the customers prefer foreign brands or don´t they care ?

Finally arive new tool for countryside, brushcutter from Stihl FS 360 C-EM :D

Also I'm keen to know if its made in Germany.
It should be... :)

Please suggest something decent for occasional jobs around the house, car, etc.

Does the dealer work with both brands? Maybe Stihl has better profit and bonus pay out [emoji6]

Have a craftsman ratchet from the 30s. I'll take a pic here soon. Was thinking of getting it powder coated black. Not sure yet.

Been reading through (mostly looking at pics) old posts on this thread.

Do these function well as pipe wrenches? Cannot find much info on them. Is the moving jaw reversible? Do they apply clamping force when turned like a standard pipe wrench? They look like they would slip off

UPDATE,

It seems it is a fake one after chatting with someone using them often and after checking out Weller website.

Anyways, Weller belongs to Apex group now so the genuine ones may be decent.

However I try and avoid these kind of companies that operate strictly on profit, outsourcing everything and closing down historic brands.

Gröne power tools. The distributor swears it's made in Poland, but I will believe it only after I see the invoice :D

Only company that is making electric tools in Poland right now is Celma and its only small part of their tool line. Tools they made are poor quality in my opinion, sure they last for decades but lack any precision or quality. And no, they are not cheap also.

I saw once Gröne mixer and they used words like "Made By Kaem" which does not mean Made in Poland. Only things that can be made in Poland from their line are accessories like cutting discs or drill bits etc.

Yes, its jaw is reversible. I have one, only tried it once and it did turn my pipe around. It has some clamping force as the pipe wrench, but maybe not so strong.

I've used these before as well, but only on small ID pipe. I kinda question how well they'd grab something large and rusted. I'd be willing to bet they don't have the clamping force.

Bought some Gardena garden tools for a bit of a test due to their low cost at a discount shop in the UK recently (TK Maxx for us Brits on here who may be wondering).

View media item 85854
Quality is quite good. Good heft, with a solid feel whilst the fit and finish is pretty much flawless.
Appear to be made in China due to the lack of COO on the tools and packaging (only Husqvarna AB address given) although for £4 a piece I thought they were worth a try.
In practice they seem to work well so the only question will be how well the Duroplast coating holds up. I don't need anything else in their garden range but trowels and forks were also available at this price.

Had the 8 inch a short while and really like the handle so bought the larger 12 inch. No more using slotted drivers for prying.

IMG_4217.jpg

Green part of the handle is hard plastic and the black covering is rubber.

IMG_4238.jpg

Not sure if the complete pry bar is made by Lancer (Taiwan) or just the handle.

I picked up some German made tools today and I'd like to know a little more about them if any of you guys are familiar with them.....

First, is a pair of GEDORE Germany ratcheting spanners (?).....the drive square looks 1/2" but a 1/2" extension won't go in.
How/where are they used.....?????
20180815_143552.jpg

Next, is a pair of pliers with a wide flat jaws.....marked ARHOSO produckt W-Germany (look a lot like Knipex)
What is it's use....?????
20180815_154800.jpg 20180815_143522.jpg 20180815_154815.jpg

Lastly, a Stanley #2530 ratchet W-Germany!!!.....Super sweet little 1/4" drive ratchet that looks a lot like a small version of a Facom J151 complete with tootsie roll handle.
In fact the guts are identical to the Facom/S-K super ratchets with the heart shaped spring.
It came with a 6mm hex socket marked Stanley - Germany also...?????
20180815_203839.jpg 20180815_203903.jpg 20180815_154545.jpg

I'd appreciate any info on these "odd" (to me) tools.....thanks
