A question for you. Why isn’t Gedore more popular? I have serious respect for them because of the scale and completeness of their manufacturing capabilities. Also, because of the huge investment required to acquire all of the hot and cold forging equipment. They are very unique in this regard (I think only Facom competes with them on the scale of forging capability within all of Europe). What gives and why isn’t there more love for Gedore?

They are well known all over the world with the exception of the US. The US is a tough nut to crack for most European equipment manufacturers. They have to compete in a saturated market with local and cheap imported tools.

At least over here they´re everywhere The tool dealers usually have either Gedore (blue), Stahlwille or Hazet. Some big box stores also now carry Gedore "Blue" and "Red". Many rebadged torque wrenches are actually produced by Gedore. They have 5 factories in Germany as well in the UK, Austria, Brazil and South Africa to produce tools mainly for automotive sectors, industry, mining, construction etc.... They´re on every continent.... I guess you don´t see them in the US often because the US still has a large amount of own brands/manufacturing, whereas other countries don´t produce tools at all so it might be easier to enter that market with "Made in Germany" (or locally made) tools. If they would open a factory in the US they might be more popular I think they also might have the industrial customer in mind first, Gedore is listed at Grainger for example. Selling car related tools in large numbers will be difficult in the USA i guess, because you need tool trucks and a bank for credit....

I picked up this older Record quick release vice and wondering if any of you might know when it left Record's factory? it looks a lot like a Parkinson so did Record buy Parkinson before Irwin bought Record.

also sadly I saw this picture of the old Record factory that maybe some of you live close. how long has it been vacant since they moved their factory to China?

when Irwin moved to China did they really find a town named Shefield so they could keep Shefield on their vices castings and then eliminate MADE IN ENGLAND or is that just a rumor?

That Record, its got its size in mm as well as inches, I would think that should place it 1970's or later as thats when we started to go metric and before the 70's nobody really cared about metric here.

The standard English quick release vice is a Parkinson design (and most of what we consider the English non QR design is also), although it evolved a couple times to get to the final form. Record largely ripped the design off and got away with it, Parkinson went out of business in 1984 if my memory is correct, although on the internet you will often see they went before WW2, which is not true, I think the Record factory shut in 2004 ish so has been empty since about then if no one else has occupied it

I own 2 of these drivers. One is still good....50/50.... Maybe you have more luck

It seems there are not many Facom dealers left....the closest is 30km away and called "Boeing Distribution Center" we´ll see...

My favorite Facom screwdrivers have black handles, followed by the orange translucent handles. I have some Ergotwist but they are all in good shape after 15 years. I do not beat on them at all and I don’t use them much.

Considering the prices, the blades are superbly ground.

I’m always amazed at how many knives, even some of the really expensive ones, have appallingly ground blades!

I wonder how many people collect them rather than use them, and just don’t notice!

Me, myself, am believer in german quality - sooo, what exactly Hazet manufactures in your country (I am more of Stahlwille guy - Belzer, also, but...)? Last thing, I have read that Gedore only has an forging hammer big enough for forging wrenches 32+ mm... True?

Facom updated the 3/8 Rotator Ratchet. The handle design is different (prior model had Protwist handle), as is the push button and selector on the head of the ratchet. They also added knurling to the shaft.

No COO listed, but I ***-U-me Taiwan.
No complaints. Quality is exceptionally high.

New USAG flashlights. The 889TA and 889TC. Large one is 150 lumens, which didn't sound like much, but seems like plenty when using it. Both have aluminum bodies and feel nice and solid. I got the small one first and liked it so much I decided to get it's larger sibling.

Nice to see that the new Hazet 1/4" is compact. Their other fine tooth 1/4" looks pretty chunky.

Noticed digital torque adapters are going for just over £20 on Amazon so gave one a try. Surprisingly easy to use. Covers 10-200Nm which is good enough for everything I will use it for. 10-40Nm is not guaranteed within the ±2% accuracy like the rest of the range. Hoping it will still give me an idea of what 25Nm feels like for plastic filter canisters as I worry that I will damage one.

Update. Finally got round to servicing my car and trying this torque adapter. I previously compared it to a torque wrench used at my local tyre shop (cough Kwik fit) and it agreed enough to be useable on wheel nuts but at the lower end of the torque range I find it hopeless. 25Nm is just not doable (for me anyway). Back to guesstimating for now.

New set of Bahco/Irazola impact screwdrivers made in Spain. I have a couple random Irazola drivers I've picked up before and never been a huge fan of the handles but I decided to give these a shot as I wanted to try out the impact versions. They are really nice and may be my new favorite impact screwdrivers.

The handles are huge though especially on the largest ones. They could almost replace my pry bars outright. Showing them here next to another style Bahco impact handle, Wiha impact drivers and Felo wood handle impact drivers.
