A bit kit I assembled for most of the hex and torx fasteners I am likely to encounter. IIRC, all are Wera except for the Wiha #4 Phillips and the security #2 Phillips and #2 square I put in the extra spaces.

Do you have a part number for that case?

I bought a big pile of used tools for couple euros, here are the most interesting ones. German made wrenches, one branded Jungk, others just special steel. Couple of Facom S11 and Billnäs cable cutters. The three 1/2 sockets are USA made, Walden Worcester, Snap on and very old (i think) indestro with star stampings.

Just in case set for the car I hope never to need to work on:
View media item 98653View media item 98654
Are insulated ratchets and sockets compatible usually compatible across brands? Or are insulation specs not standard?

Other recent "Old World" additions.

Knipex wire pulling pliers and spring loaded electrical needle-nose-ish pliers

View media item 98655Wire pulling pliers were first seen here, and their utility was obvious as soon as they were posted.

The electrical pliers could be thought of as "Fit done right." Fit pliers are conceptually innovative, but the execution *****. Their build quality is barely at Snapon levels. The Knipex ones are beautifully built, as they should be at such a high price. One quirk: the cam doesn't close the jaws all the way. In my intended location that does not matter.

Wiha Picofinish 4mm bit handle (in Wiha USA's great little "Go Box" set - the lid closes without issue)
View media item 98381Would not have purchased at full price, but since I was placing an order with Wiha during their recent 40% off sale I threw this one in. The business end is all plastic. Magnetic bit retention. No screw collet to vary the bitholder length, unlike older Wiha, Felo, or Engineer. Overall I think Engineer's 4mm collet handle is my favorite, Wera needs to release their 4mm handle as open stock.

Wiha Ultradriver, Picofinish 4mm handle, fractional 4mm hex bit set, assorted replacement bits; Wera 2/2.5/3mm hex plus bit sets.
View media item 98380Ultradrivers are super handy to for cars, second homes, or portable kits. I think this is my 3rd but might be the 4th. Currently $20 direct from Wiha.

Picked up the Wera hex plus bits after rounding off a tiny hex screw with another good brand bit but being able to remove it with a Wera hex plus precision screwdriver. I'm converting at least all my small hex bits to Wera.

KS Tools (Reverse Gear) locking flex head bit ratchet
View media item 98392This bit ratchet is functionally the same as Facom/USAG: the extension fits as a T-handle when inserted one way, magnetic bit holder on the bottom of the handle. KS Tools is considerably cheaper than Facom open stock (I haven't seen this tool as open stock from USAG at Ultimate Garage or Mister Worker), and from feel seems to differ only in handle shape and (slightly) handle length. Here's the three of them side-by-side.

View media item 98393
These bit ratchets are not the most refined tools. Backdrag is high, though consistent across units - can't say that for some expensive white van brands... There is more play on the bit than from Koken/Felo/Stahlwille, so the feeling of quality is not quite there.

Nevertheless, I've found them overall the most useful. The combinbation of tiny head and locking flex improves access compared to other bit ratchets. The annoyingly high backdrag can be mitigated by pressing on the dished spinner ring on the top of the ratchet. Starting over this design would be the only bit ratchet I buy. Less functional Reverse Gear bit ratchets (e.g. Wera, early Facom) are obsolete.

If anyone cares, this bit ratchet fits in the old spring-loaded Wiha bit box
View media item 98382
Last one: Wera screw holder accessory
View media item 98383I've already found it useful. It fits on power bits.

Thank you very much,CGarage! Your french is very good! I am a retired Dutch who lives in France since 2008, as the Netherlands are overcrowded and I need more space than I had there! Amicalement, Johan

Haven't seen Bellota before. Do you know what tools they manufacture themselves?

Mr.Lemmons, I have a 2000/2001 catalogue, 204 pages, A4, and some tools. I do not have a smartphone nor a digital camera to show you. Bellota makes also agricultural and garden tools, they have production plants in Spain (3), in Denmark ,in France, in Venezuela,in Colombia,in Mexico and in Brazil. Bellota was founded in 1908. Most of the tools say "made in Spain", or "Spain". Their metal saw frame "4630" is a look-a-like of Sandvik's "225". The plastic grips of their pliers look like Usag. I haven't found a tool without COO =Spain in this cat. The tools I have, some spanners (open and box),some screwdrivers (torx and PZD), and a claw hammer, are nice, well-manufactured tools: I like them.
Kind Regards, Johan

Facom R.150RCK 1/4" locking extension.

IMG-9810-2.jpg

Not sure if this is a new style of locking extension from Facom or if they make two different versions. It has a shiny chrome finish and knurling. I have an older extension that has a satin finish, no knurling and different locking mechanism. No COO on either but I was told here that the satin finished extension was made in France. Sockets fit better (tighter) on the satin extension.

I have another version of those locking extensions. This ones probably 15 years old, maybe more.

Very nice chrome, and a very solid feel. Overall a really good tool, and probably my favourite locking extension.

This is the quality of tool that Facom built their reputation on, but I can’t say I like the way Stanley keep picking away at the quality and outsourcing.

In a former posting "show your vices" I have posted my vices: these 2 LEINEN's, 4 ea PARAMO, No 1, 2, 3 and 5 , MATADOR 150mm, WODEN Carpenter's vice and an aluminium BERNSTEIN on a ball-pivot. The 4 PARAMO's I have repainted last year, the MATADOR in 2016. After retirement in 2008 I moved from Holland to France: my workshop is still a PITA: moving heavy stuff to arrange isn't easy without help and material. I haven't a camera, nor tablet, nor smartphone........maybe later!

Monte it is winter time coming up.

What is with all the summer stuff ?

Let us see all the new snowblowers you are buying.
:) Many pics are older and from earlier this year :)
I´m still cutting some hedges and doing garden stuff though...
I hope we don´t get snow :) (ok maybe on Christmas :) ).
I´m a fan of global warming :D

I did buy a lot of mechanics tools but you have to look here since they are not from the old world:
https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=358740&page=5

Maybe Monte has a green house growing some delicious fruit. My curiosity is starting to kill me I will admit.
That would be nice :) Some neighbours grow tomatoes etc. Delicious...

That's actually a really good tape measure for measuring inside drawers, cabinets, and the like. I bought a couple of them last year (BMI brand, without the idiotic "Supi" livery) from amazon.de for about 20USD each.
I was searching for the best price for one when I came across this Supreme version.

Hazet 863P 1/4" ratchet from behind today's advent calendar door.

IMG-9834.jpg

IMG-9832.jpg

Next to Stahlwille brother. 20 teeth feels a little antiquated now I'm used to fine tooth ratchets. Mechanism is smooth/quiet compared to the Stahlwille. Back drag feels about the same though I would guess that the Hazet will get smoother after some use.

IMG-9841.jpg

Also picked up Hazet 903 SPC/3 as a guy was selling them cheap on Ebay.

May be seconds as the 21mm has a plastic pad missing from inside.
