Anyone know of a good German or Japanese made 6-7 inch needle/snipe nose pliers with both cross hatch serrations and a side cutter, excluding linesman pliers?? ...I guess I'm essentially looking a Japanese or German version of Channellock pliers. Anyone seen one? All the ones that I've seen have parallel serrations and a cutter. The few that I've seen with cross hatch serrations don't have a cutter.

Knipex and NWS both have good product pages, the NWS has high quality photos so I would start there first.

I cannot think of any Old World long nose pliers with cross hatch serrations and cutters. :(

Thank you for the suggestion. I've already looked at the websites of Knipex, NWS, Wiha, Felo, VBW, Tsunoda, Fujiya, Engineer, 3.Peaks. I'm hoping one of the Old World gurus will know of one.

Maybe it's mostly an American thing??

Not sure if there are any Old World pliers with cross hatch serrations other than the Mechanics range from Knipex? Why the serrated design has not been implemented more in Europe and Japan is beyond me as it is simple and very effective.

The Knipex & Gedore mechanics pliers and telephone pliers have cross hatch serrations. There's also a Knipex precision pliers with less aggressive cross hatch serrations but they don't have cutters, unfortunately. The intended use is to pull thin wire from a spool and cut it. The cross hatch pattern is great for work with thin wire.

It seems to go in and out of style in the USA. Channellock still makes cross hatch serrations. Crescent made some cross hatch and some parallel. Klein makes the serrations parallel. Proto used to make cross hatch serrations but now they use parallel serrations.

The aggressive serrations on the Knipex linesman are a thing of beauty. I'm tempted to buy them every time I see them at Menards. But I have no real need for linesman pliers--haha.

I have the mechanics pliers from Knipex. Might have to pick up the telephone pliers too.

Unfortunately Gedore is not common in the USA. I can order online but it's not in local brick and mortar stores. Here's the bent mechanics pliers. The telephone pliers have the same knurl and would be perfect for my use if they had a cutter.

I thought I'd be able to help, but I just went and looked through all my old world long nose pliers from Knipex, NWS, Gedore, Facom, Stahlwille/VBW, Bahco and a few others. All the ones with cutters have parallel serrations, and all the ones with cross hatches have no cutter. Only the linesman pliers have both from any of the brands.

The only long nose pliers I have with both cross hatch serrations and cutters are Channellock and Klein, both made in the US of course.

I appreciate it that you checked. If the Klein pliers are 6-7 inch needle/snipe nose with cross hatch serrations, I'd be interested in getting the model number. The new 6-7 that I've seen have diagonal parallel serrations. I haven't seen them with cross hatch pattern. I hope folks don't mind the brief, new world interruption. ;) I'll probably pick up another pair of USA pliers for this application.

Sorry to get your hopes up, I was mistaken. The serrations in the Kleins are diagonal and mine had dirt in the jaws that made them look cross hatched.

Here are a bunch of long nose pliers with cutters, but all with parallel serrations from USAG, Facom, Bahco, NWS, SAM, Mob, Knipex, Western Forge, Gedore, Klein, Engineer and Beta. The second picture is all my long nose pliers with cross hatches from Snap On, Channellock, Gedore and Knipex, but the Channellocks are the only ones with a cutter. The third picture is a comparison of the cross hatched pliers, from bottom to top, Snap On, Channellock, Gedore, Knipex and Channellock again.

Nice photos! I especially like the comparison of the serrations. That's the only time that I've seen all of them side by side.

Anyone know if Facom 44 open end spanners/wrenches are still made in France or are the images on their website are out of date?

They are Taiwan made now but there's plenty of new old french made stock around.

The new ones have the similar chrome finishes but are just stamped facom like a generic brand comparable to their expert range.

Just checked and mine are the same, the 21mm socket has a different design of plastic insert to the smaller sockets.

Brill. Thanks for that.

Shame. They should really update the products pics. Thanks.

Early wintery morning at the autojumble. Came away with a very clean 12" Bahco adjustable and what looks like NOS or very lightly used Stanley 'Workmaster' offset spanner set. The Stanley spanners are cheap looking but stamped 'France' so I thought I would give them a try.

Mr. Lemons, I hope that I can manage this not to be rude, but can you type how much those items cost you? Just making some parallels on continent's flea market prices...

Yes no worries. £15 for the Bahco and £15 for the spanner set. I paid the asking prices without haggling so maybe could have paid a little less. Possibly £10 each but I'm terrible at haggling , too polite.

They are nearly every month throughout the year. Next is Jan then March. Most UK Autojumbles are just in summer though I think. Not icey, but muddy :)

I know Taiwan pliers are not what you are looking for but just been looking on the Tekton website and they have three sizes of long nose pliers with cutters and what looks a lot like Talon grip.

Mr. Lemon's, what is autojumble? Sorry for the stupid question.

Flea market or Swap meet?

Monthly gathering where independent sellers sell used car/motorbike parts and tools etc. Sometimes connected to a classic car show or similar.

I think the first question I’d ask is, where’s it actually made?

I’ve seen the bigger Scangrip lights in bodyshops, and they are made in Denmark, which accounts for some of the price.

The price of the ‘Slim’ still strikes me as high though, for what you get, especially as this technology is moving forward so fast at the mo!

I use the Unilite shown in the first two pictures below. Not too big, good bright light (300lm, but they offer bigger) hard plastic that wipes clean easily, and rechargeable. Had this for about 2 years now and just about right.

If I want something slimmer, I just use the one shown in the third pic. See ‘em branded with a number of names, all made in China, but a good light and costing only about £5 / $7?

Job done, and you can spend the big money on something that won’t be superseded in a couple of years!

What are those QC fittings? They look shorter & fatter than any style I've seen.
They´re the standard air couplers over here.Maybe they look fatter because they´re 1/2" ?

I went to Toom in Germany today, kind of like a Home Depot. I found the hand tools and there was a lot of Knipex and Wera and some Felo and NWS stuff, but the prices weren't very good. I think it's all cheaper to buy on the US Amazon than it is to buy in Germany with the VAT tax added on and the conversion rate to Euros.

Toom has their own branded tools that look a lot like Felo, Knipex, and NWS but when you pick them up you can feel just how low quality they really are. The red plastic and wood screwdrivers are Toom brand, not Felo.
Anyway, here are some pics:
