Looks like a more complicated version of the excellent Warren and Brown beam style torque wrench.

I snagged some Facom too. Extending ratchet seem to be a niche tool, other than the Taiwan one that rebranded and sold by Harbor Freight and a million other Amazon sellers, Facom seems to have been the only one to give it some real thought. The extension doubles as a handle when locked.

The design itself is from Facom. My old ratchet was made in France. I believe USAG is part of the Facom group. Facom being part of the Stanley Black and Decker consortium.

Hi Your assumptions on the sockets are correct. Some years ago i got suspicious when i bought a socket 1/4 socket set,my thoughts back then you can find here:https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28952&page=1007 Back then i did email saltus about coo,but i did not get a reply from them. The first that i noticed was the crv instead om chrom vanadium,not thupical for german tools. Also the font the crv was written in was different from the rest text on the sockets. Also there is a discussion between me and Dave455 somewhere about the ratcheting wrenches. In my head laser printed markings are never a good sign. So when it comes to coo on late saltus tools,i dont trust them.

Interesting, I thought most pliers from Stahlwille were VBW. Yours is probably before that then, I think that design is quite old.

That's some rough forging, looks very different from the ones posted earlier. Much older probably then.

Better late than never - for me, because I have a dilemma

So really, Monte, had there been sort of consensus regarding posting on tools in this thread? Is it enough to be primarily established brand in Europe, no matter where the production is? Or is it just sort of compromise to have primarily european tools, and others are welcomed?

Indeed. Whole of idea was to take some stand on difference in threads - I saw earlier sort of mixed tool postings and did not react. But here is one more thing - I have become the type of member that just comments, without real observation and contribution. Also, as I think of it now, that is not an isolate case, but pretty usual. Rather sad.

Nice set - 3/8" drive?

Those extendable flex head QR ratchets surprised me. One would think the telescoping handle a gimmick, but these manage to feel quite solid at every length. If one could only have one in a given drive size, these are good candidates: so versatile yet also clearly of advanced design and high quality. The screw-adjustable head tension also helps keep the head in place, albeit not as well as an actual locking mechanism would.

The D-box is also a very efficient use of space. Don't get the regular D-box and later try to add the separate extendable flex head ratchet thinking it'll fit in the box. At least in 1/2" drive, I can tell you from experience it won't fit. The D-box with that ratchet and the locking extensions is configured differently from the one with the standard or rotator ratchet and plain extensions.

Yeah, I was surprised w/ the quality of the extension mechanism. I must be getting old/weak, but I struggle with even low torque stuff like oil drain plugs now, and having the extra leverage when necessary is nice.

I got the 1/2" set, I have a few 1/4" sets that cover the smaller stuff, this will be the core of my travel set.

Monte wanted some pics of the Gedore display. It appears to be a mix of South African made Gedore and German.

Any company selling that socket over here would want to replace that socket because of chrome peeling is a risk of getting stuck in somebodies hand. That is what I was told before when I have had that problem the manufacturer told me that was their policy. That Gedore socket looks like it was dirty when plated which is why it peeled so badly.

I did get cut by that socket. Threw it in the scrap metal bin immediately after.
I bought it from eBay Germany, so I just ordered another.

P.S. I tried to disassemble one of the two Hazet ratchets to clean the gear / pawl and, after backing both screws out, the face of the ratchet would not budge. Are Hazet ratchets user serviceable?

They are very nice.
I have Facom, PB Swiss, Belzer, USAG precision screwdrivers.

But when it really, really matters...........

I am reaching for my Swiss Bergeon or HoroTec precision babies.

Edit: Or my Japanese Vessels (which are really exceptional. I rate them on par with PB Swiss).

Yes, should be. I’ve had mine apart in the past, and repair kits are available!

Give it a gentle tap with a non marking hammer, or back out the screws just a little and give them a tap!

NWS tin snips. 078-12-300.

First impressions are good. Apart from grey coating which is a little thick and lumpy they look and feel very well finished. The pivot is smooth with no obvious play. The blades look well ground and come together with equal resistance along their length.

As with all snips of this design (English Pattern) the handles open very wide so two hands are required or the use of a bench on the lower handle.

Compare to older Gilbow (Sheffield, England) snips and Midwest (US) aviation snips.

Posted pics a while ago but only just got round to using a Dremel EZ SpeedClic today. It worked very well and made changing sanding bands quick and easy. The blue part is soft rubber so may not last very long.
Made in Taiwan.
