^ Looks pretty awesome.

Knipex sent out a questionnaire about their multi component grips for pliers. The questions suggest that they are thinking about redesigning them or maybe dropping them. Going off forum pics and youtube vids the standard grips are far more popular so it makes sense. Handle design is the reason I mostly choose other brands over Knipex so I would definitely welcome something new.

I wish Knipex made these 91-92-180 upholstery pliers with standard grips, but that's the only choice they offer. Never really liked bulky comfort grips. I somehow think that they don't offer as much grip as the standard vinyl grips. What do you guys think?

Ideally I'd want these pliers in a pistol-grip style. That would be a REALLY good evolutionary change that nobody else offers.

You should check out C.S. Osborne they are one of the best for upholstery type tools. They offer several variants of hog ring pliers, while it’s not a pistol grip they do offer a bent/offset style. And they have vinyl grips!

Yes, I did look at C.S. Osborne before making my purchase decision for the Knipex at the time. I wanted a long-reach type of tool, which I didn't recall seeing in C.S. Osborne's catalog. I'll take another look though.

I do like the comfort grips. Especially for the mechanic pliers range. And yes I think they are bulky too. I wish they would change their handle design to this: Knipex Site

I'd happily crawl through a barrel of broken glass to live in the Stubai valley. Nice.

@Mark Garrett - those bahcos don’t seem to be too plentiful around our neck of the woods - nice finds. Nice records too.

i thought about this version:

Interesting design, does it appear to be cast? or made from bar stock perhaps? Doesn't look like a shape friendly to forging... too.. round! :)

Guys, I just bought 20 used Stahlwille metric wrenches for approximately 73 euros.
11 pieces of Open Box 13, sizes: 2 x 32, 2 x 30, 2 x 27, 2 x 24, 2 x 22, 1x 17
9 pieces of double ring Stabil, sizes: 36-32, 32-30, 30-27, 2 x 27-24, 24-21, 22-20, 22-19, 19-17

Condition of wrenches is fine. Just a few of them have previous owner markings, and one wrench is little bent. Chrome is fine, working surfaces fine. The thing I like the most - there is five or six "stronger than any bolt" wrenches. :)

I will upload pics, as soon as I grab time.

In the meanwhile, I need feedback.

Did I:
(A) Overpaid the wrenches. :(
(B) Paid exactly what they are worth. :)
(C) Nailed it! Made a great job! :drink:

Depends on where are you... Not same Europe, and USA... Generally speaking, you made maybe just between b and c... If you are in Europe... Pretty costly in US

I would pay 73€ anytime for those wrenches if they are in workable condition, although i have little or no use for those stabil ones. It's only little more than 3€ a piece.

Yup, but there is just more than few duplicates...
Also, but this is my friend, that managed to find Stabil, that bolted ones, couple of 13-s, few odds and ends... All Wille... Just around 2€ per wrench

My line of thought, exactly. I mean, those larger sizes are around 30 euros a piece in a shop.
Yes, they are in pretty fine shape. Shiny chrome. :D I will post picks, as soon as I grab a time...

@OMMP
I am from Europe. What duplicates have to do with price? :) I mean, when you go to the store, and ask for two same wrenches, they will not give you 80% discount. :D
I like to have double sets of tools (in case you lose, or damage some tool). Even if I don't, if I decide so - it will be very easy to get rid of those duplicates, any time.

Considering your second post (about your friend). I recently bought little Knipex cutters, W.Germany Maister sloted screwdriver (9x150), and Rahsol double ring wrench 15-14. All in excellent condition. I paid 1 euro and 25 cents, for all three thing together. :D But you can not expect to score like that every day....or to compare everything else according to best score. ;)

I suspected you are European; so am I... But in part where you make some really good deals as according to mentioned price - no matter what manufacturer, it all depends on - measure... Bigger the wrench, higher the price; more tools, lower the price; couple duplicates - more lower price... Your nick is, obviously, abbreviation of Stahlwille and Hazet, so it speaks of your preferences - just as my mentioned friend and I... Just that I am Wille, he is Hazet guy.
Those Wille wrenches are bought for me... And not considered killer deal. You really took good, maybe even great prices; it is just that I have learned here, in this forum, are prices at garage sales... Pretty similar price you paid for those three items...
Those are considered good, great deals. But, generally, you almost sucked! This is compliment, usual phrase around here to show respect on good deals taken in tool buyings.

You guessed right about my nick. But I must add a Belzer.
Hazet, Belzer and Stahlwille are my favorites. Although Belzer is really difficult for finding. After those three, Dowidat and Gedore come. :) (must admit, I least prefer the Gedore, don't know why :) )

I’m not sure I have seen many Bahco either. I got these in a toolbox job lot from a guy who used to sell ex-MOD stuff in Co Tyrone. Unfortunately he is gone now.
Thanks for the response

Personally I’d pay around the 60,-. Not that far off, it all depends on your want&need I guess.

You scared me for a second. :D But, at the end, you are not that far off with your price, so I am relaxed. :) I must say that shipping was included in the mentioned price.

By the way. I have 8 pieces Hazet box end wrenches set (7-6, 10-8, 14-12, 15-14, 17-14, 26-24, 28-25, 32-27). It's put together out of several purchases. Excellent condition. That set cost me less then 10 euros. :)

So, generally speaking, those stahlwilles are not my regular kind of deal. But I really wanted them. Wrenches are in excellent condition, and its not so simple to find those babies in my country. :) At least, I couldn't find them cheaper, so far.

Of course I needed them! :D Because I love blonds and brunettes equally, so I couldn't leave my Hazet set without proper companion. :D ********* is the best! :D

P.S. If we rationally talk about the tools, than I probably don't need 90% of the tools I have. But I just love them, and love to have them. I guess, most of the fellows here, are in the same mood. :D

Good find, though there are a good few of these around!

Stanley offered two different grades of ball pein hammer, in accordance with the relevant British Standards.

The cheaper grade had ash handles, and can be recognised by the painted sides to the head.

The better grade had hickory handles, and polished sides to the head.

Both were decent tools though, and way better quality than the current offerings from Stanley!

‘Evertite’ was a trademark of Stanley Tools and related to the way the head was fixed. There may have been something in this, as I have some quite well used Stanley hammers, but no loose handles!

i have my eye on some british made hammers but. stateside they are rather rare unfortunately.

Historically, the best makers were Brades (long gone) and Clydesdale Whitehouse (survived to the ‘90’s but the last stuff wasn’t great).

Stanley made some decent hammers, but the quality seems to have steadily dropped over the years.

My personal favourites were Marples. The handles are a little beefier than others, and it improves the feel. I have an 8 oz Marples Ball Pein, and it’s always my first choice if I want to do some centre punching or anything that needs precision.
