A good friend of mine is planning his retirement in the south of France and gave me a big box full of more specialist tools (pullers etc.). Very happy and grateful for that.
Two very nice spanners made in Germany and Sweden (Dowidat and Bahco)


and one tool which I think is a kind of puller who can tell me what it is?

Hi, Thom, your friend is right to leave the Netherlands! I did so in 2008,after my retraitment, without any regret!
I always wonder why the angle of Dowidat "bahco's" at the business end have a steeper angle than all other brands. You're right: that KUKKO puller is designed to be used with a bridge to pull ballbearings by gripping the inner race. You screw this inner puller in the spindle, equipped with internal thread, instead of a centering piece. It works fine

Bost made/makes pliers and screwdrivers for Facom, as it is owned by Facom. Now, as Facom is owned by Stanley Black&Decker, so is Bost - I bought some Stanley Made in France screwdrivers. As it sufficed for Facom - it should be suited for most

Bost is o.k. They make also pliers of good quality.

These aren't terribly special - just Bahco adjustable spanners made in Sweden and Made in England Vices/Vises.
For some strange reason I would rather pay more for second hand tools made in the old world than new tools of uncertain quality!

Me too Mark, I prefer 2nd hand Europe-made, even for a higher price! I have the same Bahco Ergo adjustable spanners in 4" ,6",8", 10",12" and 15" in black, 4" and 6" in chrome and 2older ones ,black (B.A.Hjorth) in 6" and 18"
I like Paramo vic/s/es, I have No. 1,2,3 and 5. Last year I was too late to buy a No. 00.........Looking for No.00, 0,4 and 6.

Cleaned it quickly with the airgun and wiped it down with some WD-40, and it looks good. Some scratches and dings, but it doesn't need any work in my opinion. The door looks crooked in the picture, but it wasn't permanent. A push and it seated correctly.

It is the double sided version, but I will probably put it up against a wall. Might do a wooden top for it also.

Cleaned it quickly with the airgun and wiped it down with some WD-40, and it looks good. Some scratches and dings, but it doesn't need any work in my opinion. The door looks crooked in the picture, but it wasn't permanent. A push and it seated correctly.



It is the double sided version, but I will probably put it up against a wall. Might do a wooden top for it also.

Those are nice, like a modern Hazet Assistent. I have mine kitted out w/ some tool foam, works great as a track toolbox. A bit heavy if you have to lift it in/out of your vehicle though, but I guess that's the price you pay for having a little beefier build quality.

Do you think it could take off all the lugs with just one battery ?

What was the strength of the battery after that one removed ?

Used the impact today so gave it a try on a full battery. I used it to fully remove and refit a wheel six times before I gave up. Was on the road outside my neighbours house so I did not want to make any more noise and I was starting to sweat. Each time I torqued the nuts to 140Nm. Battery still showed as full (three bars) so I guess more than two thirds full if the gauge can be trusted.

Anybody have an idea what this vintage J.A. Henckels knife is for?

It's a very fine spear point - two bevels on each side. Blade thickness is .065". Handle is 6", total blade length 9 1/2". The Zwillingswerk logo apparently dates 1900-1970.

A lot of people think it's a marking knife, but I've never seen a marking knife with 4 bevels and such a narrow tip angle.

Along those lines, does anyone know what a German marking knife looks like? Seems like most of the ones we see in the US are from the British tradition.

Finaly, does anyone know where to find old Henckels catalogs? The only thing I could find was a limited brochure from 1933.

I'm also going to say it's a marking knife for woodworking. It's neat that it's adjustable in length. Perhaps it was specific to a certain subtrade...one that might not be very common today?
