2800 Nm? Good lord. 2065 lb-ft. You'd think they were taking off ship propellers or somethin'.

:beer:Those beta boxes. When I just got out of school, i had one of those at the VW-Audi workshop I worked at. Total **** that was. Sorry, its true. Tools were ok, but the whole "hanging the tools by a hook in a box on wheels"-thing, really is just ****.

I bet, when these guys onloaded them from the trucks, al the tools would be lying on the bottom of the box, and they had to spend the first 2 hours sorting them out, and hanging them up all nice again.
:lol_hitti

Didn't stop my fellow countryman to win races, though...

With the USAG set all the tools that hang in the box have keeper rods that keep them in place and they don't fall out

I'd love to be able to chuck a $4000 Paoli onto the concrete floor, just to get it outta my way quickly. It just wouldn't be the same without that show. :D

Your going to see a lot of Lista, they pack easily and work well inside the trailers. I will try and get a few pictures in Laguna in a few weeks of tools that we use.

@benjamming: Thanks for the pics. It's always great to go in the pits and look around. Tool ****, car ****, and then there are the pit hotties...

Hmmm, maybe we need a special thread for that.

What kind of clips are used in these pictures to hold up the ratchets and speeders? Do these boxes come like that or are they added?

Thanks,

Taylor

they are added, I think.
Those clips are general installation hardware.
I've seen them used in industrial installations for just about anything, including hanging fluorescent lights.
You can get them in different sizes.

Thank you sir! I'm headed to Lowes now! I plan to hang my ratchets and speeders on my KRA2055 under the lid so they are covered but don't take up any drawer space!

A surprising number of Craftsman 3-drawer portable boxes. I've seen those in the stores and the drawer action is **** and they have tiny 12" drawers. Anyone know why they are chosen? There must be something I'm missing.

The mechanics are only working on one car (model). There's a reasonably small set of fastener sizes/types on that car. They may change out an engine, but they're not going to rebuild it at the track. So the entire car can be "serviced" with a relatively small set of tools.

Most people go to the races and take pics of the racers, theirs cars or girls, Garage Journal members take pics of tools and tool boxes.

You can tell what those guys have spent their money on. I love how some of those tools boxes don't give off a huge wow factor then you see them open up and all the quality tools inside.

As someone mentioned, each man supplies his own box and tools. My son is a junior engineer for a Grand Prix team and was given a list of minimum items needed and maximum dimensions. Specialty tools are supplied by the team. My son was able to negotiate a deal with Beta but it still cost him dearly. At least Beta laser etched all his tools for free.

Of course we have to ask, what team? And how much is he paying to work there? [Is there an icon for drooling?]

Can he take a camera into the non-confidential parts of the garage? Just shoot the tools and boxes, not the cars and test gear?

Is it HF,, or the original that HF cloned?

Looks like theres an additional crossbar under the drawers on the one in the pic, plus the casters look "better" (wider and taller?)

hmmmmm i hadn't noticed that... i think you are right...

Here are a couple of pics I took at the NASCAR hall of fame today and Hendrick Motorsports. I know, not formula one, but it is kinda relevant.

Picture 3 of the tool storage in #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. race shop. The other side of this area is identical for Mark Martin.

I am a race mechanic on a professional team, not F1 , but the Rolex Sports Car series ( think 24hrs @ Daytona). In my situation we must all supply our own tools and box,our boxes are all the same and fairly small. As stated previously, i work on 1 car, so the selection of tools is not too large and the special tools (alignment, engine) are usually supplied by the team.

I will look through my pics to see if any of our set ups are visible.

The guys here at motoGF kitted out the Kawasaki WSBK team's workshop in the UK with Beta at the start of the season.

You can get some more info about it here - http://www.motogf.co.uk/pbm.aspx

Beta have a long history in F1 but the money that sponsorship commands nowadays is slightly prohibitive for them. I know that Ferrari do still use their tools but it's not something that they can advertise. Even when they were the official tool supplier they still had to have any associated advertising passed by Ferrari. I'm sure the tools find their way into the other teams as well.

MotoGP are motorcylcing in general is much more accessible and I guess this is why Beta have a much more visible presence there. Having a lot of the teams based in Italy would also be another factor.
