So i spend alot of time on the run working at different locations or outside, because of this i've really grown fond of tools in blow molded cases and roll up pouches because of ease of transport and organization. After a couple quick searches it seems there are a handful of companies that offer heavy duty roll up pouches like what my Wright wrenches came in to organize your wrenches, screwdrivers and pliers, do any of you guys use these? If so who makes your favorite? alternatively, do you have any better ideas for quick mobile tool storage?

A few years ago I used to be a mechanic for a rally team, we did the Asia Pacific championship and a few rounds of the WRC. A lot of the European teams used Sparco tool rolls, they looked great and seemed to handle the abuse. Check online, it might be what you need. Try some of the other brands such as OMP, they might do something similar.

We use a sparco tool roll, it works really well and holds everything needed to fix the car at the side of the stage, apart from the impact and jack.

There are also some nice canvas hipster rolls available now, they look nice but cant comment on function.

Tool rolls keep everything from bouncing around and destroying itself, and are generally the most compact way to store tools.

A tool roll is essential on a motorcycle for both these reasons.

I also really like being able to open the roll and having everything there spread out in a single layer. As mentioned above, tool boxes are less convenient and slower because you always have to excavate to find what you need, and everything gets jumbled around.

None of the tool rolls I have are made any more, but there are lots of good quality ones around, or it's easy enough to make your own.

One handy essential for a general-purpose tool roll is a zippered pouch for small stuff like driver bits and supplies like spare nuts and bolts. For some damfool reason, this is somewhat rare.

I've also seen tool rolls with clear vinyl windows; this is worse than useless, since the clear vinyl will go cloudy and then break apart very quickly under the stresses of travel and use.

Vinyl or mesh pouches or velcro closures are also useless on tool rolls since they also deteriorate very quickly.

I keep a small tool bag in my airplane for emergency use, and one of the things that's in there is a set of end wrenches. I wanted a roll for them and found someone on eBay making and selling canvas tool rolls--got in touch with her and explained what I was looking for, and she made one to match. Works perfectly. I don't have a link as it's been several years ago, but that would be a place to look.

I had no organized storage for by combo wrenches and hated just sorting through them to find the right one. I don't wrench in a garage, and usually carry tools to whatever machine or thing I'm working on so I've gotten to the point where I only want to grab the least amount of tools needed. So I got two Dickies tool rolls, one for SAE and one for Metric, then put a zip tie on the handle of the SAE roll to quickly know which one to grab.

I keep a roll of tools in each vehicle. One of them made by a friend of mine, and afew others are random brands. I don't really LOVE the style of either of them, but they work.

I also keep a small roll of tools in my backpack. Basic wrenches, 4-in-1 screwdriver, a few pliers/grips, small prybar, some picks and files, scissors and box cutter. Comes in handy quite often.

I've used the CLC tool rolls and love them. The one I have actually has a place for individual sockets and its well made and pretty cheap ($17). This is the one that I have: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KKUTCY/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I would concour with a roll like this-only to add if you don't oil your tools and are left in a humid trunk/auto/vehicle they could possibly rust-might not be your favorite to look at with a stained canvas roll, but keeps your tools nice.
I myself prefer the WAXED canvas type from China/cheap and do not absorb moisture/oil/grease-organized-neat-very little if any stains-gets the job done!

I've got a couple of tool roll pouches, but for some design, if you tilt the wrong way, all those wrenches may come tumbling out.

I use craftsman because they’re cheap (sometimes free with points) and the majority of the time, it’s going in my junkyard box, so I don’t want something too nice, because they WILL get thrashed.

After using motorcycle tool rolls for years I picked up a cheap eBay one to keep a set of tools in the car along with the spare... I kept on meaning to go back and get a better one but it's doing the job so I haven't.

Wouldn't like to put it through heavy use, mind, but I think that spending a lot more for something that sits in the boot unused 99% of the time would have been a bit of a waste. I do look at the nicer ones and ponder moving to a nice roll rather than the plastic tote I use currently for small jobs around the house...

Why not just use a portable tool box?
Sometimes a soft sided thing will fit into a place where a toolbox is too bulky.

I have practically every common mechanic's hand tool under the rear seat of my pickup (which is limited in room to big with), the Craftsman socket set was in a blow-molded case that was probably 16x18x6, all of that fits in a bag that is probably 14x5x5...plus it doesn't rattle.

Add sets of wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, etc...you can save a lot of room.

At least that's why I went that route...

I have four different brands of bags, CLC, Bucket Boss, Dickies, and a no-name.

The CLC is by far the more rugged but the pockets are more for pliers. I like how the bag is cinchable by nylon straps. It doesn't have any flaps to prevent tools from slipping out. It is probably my favorite.

The bucket boss is a lighter material, the one I have has pockets, it is full of sockets and heavy. I feel it would fail eventually with any significant use. I do like this bag for the zipper pockets.

The Dickies is well thought out for wrenches, but the shoelace closure is less that optimal. If I had the pockets and flaps of the Dickies and material and closure of the CLC, that would be a great bag. This is probably my second favorite bag.

The no-names aren't even worth mentioning...way to light, poor stitching, etc...

I'm in the minority on this thread. I can see where it would be beneficial in most of your alls case, but I'm based in a shop, and can't imagen not having my roll cart, or tool box.
And even in my puck up, have cantilever in the truck box, so I can grab the one, with what's in it I need.

I have way more tools under my rear seat than would fit in a typical cantilever box, that's my reasoning. It just fits that space better for me.

I actually have multiple sets, the garage set are hung on the wall, in drawers, or in a tool box, the truck set are in bags (not the ones I posted above), and the portable set will be in the rolls similar to those I posted above.

Dont get me wrong, i'm based out of a shop too and have 4 toolboxes, but i do alot of moonlighting and even when i'm at work end up with alot of roadservice so portability is a must for me. Trust me, i really wish it were possible to have all of my toolboxes with me wherever i went lol.
