Just found out that I'll be vacationing in Austria this summer. While I'm there I figured I better be on the lookout for some tools to bring back. :bounce:

What should I keep an eye out for?

Some of their screwdrivers look nice. Do you know anything about them or the history behind them?

Thanks,
Brandon

I think Sola's still around, although hauling home a spirit level might be a little eccentric.

Can't think of any other Austrian hand tool manufacturers, but the hunting shops have very nice craftsman made knives and the German hand tool brands are everywhere.

I don`t know who makes the blue handled, wood handle + acetat screwdrivers but this style from Stubai I`m pretty sure it`s from "Athlet"/Germany:

the electric screwdrivers too:

So the other screwdriver might be from them too

My favorite Austrian tool:

That tool actually does have a purpose (other than opening beer bottles...)

It is used as a 90 degree dog leg for torquing a couple of the head bolts on KTM's that are not accessible with a socket.

You put the 13mm over the bolt, and a 1/2" torque wrench fits right into the "bottle opener" slot....

KTM also brands quite a few general purpose tools...

I'd love to know who manufactures them. I'm guessing that they are probably not made in Austria, but likely China...

After seeing the prices I'm pretty confident they are Chinese or ROC, but probably better than German tools, or so some would have you believe.

That must be rebranded TopTul stuff. the socket set looks perfect for dashbord stuff, everything you need in one set. it was on ebay for a while for $50.

Taiwan. I don`t think there is a manufacturer here who makes these glossy wrenches, pliers have a american design but low price so i guess Taiwan too, screwdrivers look like "Lancer" brand (Taiwan) klick

Lots of the KTM Hard Parts specialty tools are Motion Pro and other motorcycle tool brands. Not even branded KTM, just resold...

It's the re-branded hand tools I've always been curious about, being a huge KTM fan (300 XC, 450 EXC, 950 SE, 950 Adventure).

The 'Lancer' screwdrivers certainly look close... Looks like they make screwdrivers only...

Toptul doesn't seem to match the socket or allen wrench stuff. Any other ideas?

@BWright:
I might be able to name a few good addresses ("for tool sightseeing/shopping") in Austria. Feel free to drop me a line, in case you're interested.

I've got some Austrian-made valve stem caps that turn a certain color when the air pressure declines.

Hmm...KTM tools looks similar to the china tools I found here
http://www.made-in-china.com/productdirectory.do?action=item&code=3203000000&order=3&style=b&page=5&memberLevel=&asFlag=&comProvince=&propertyValues=3203000000_554&toTradeMarkets=&size=30&viewType=1&sizeHasChanged=0

....but doesn't matter if china or taiwan makes the tools...it's just another cheap re-badged product and KTM tries to sell the stuff as "KTM quality"...I don't touch those knock-off tools

And what is with stubai??? Seem that they don't have flex heads ratchets or other automotive tools....boring. I would re consider that...try to find some german tools in austria .

BTW: Where are you there?
