What tools are currently made or used to made in Michigan? I try to buy new/used stuff that is made in the USA, but made in Michigan would be that much cooler.

So far I know of:
Lufkin (Saginaw, MI)
Port Austin Level And Tool (Port Austin, MI)
F.A. Luthy Co. (Jackson, MI)
I assume old Ford tools to have been made around the Detroit area....not sure though

Not really. A lot of the early Ford tools were made by Moore Drop Forging Co. and they were in Massachusetts.

A few Michigan companies are listed below, mainly machine tool makers not hand tool makers, except for Kelsey-Hayes:

Atlas (Kalamazoo)
Craftsman power tools with source code 103 (made by King-Seeley/Central Specialty in Ypsilanti)
Dake (Grand Haven)
Kalamazoo
Kelsey-Hayes (Livonia)
Oliver Machinery Co.--machine tools, not tractors (Grand Rapids)
C.O. Porter--machine tools (Grand Rapids)
Tannewitz--machine tools (Grand Rapids, now in Jenison)

You sure about Wiss? From what I can find, they are located in NJ.

The MIT tools that I've seen have a coo of China. Too bad. I wonder if they have an office in Michigan or maybe just a marketing ploy.

Guys,

MIT/TEKTON is based in Michigan. With most of our sourcing coming from imports. We do offer some USA products and are hoping to offer more soon. Right now we have USA Goodyear Hose, that we assemble here in Grand Rapids. Also just started with our USA Hybrid TEKTON hose that's also assembled in Grand Rapids.

http://www.tektontools.com/All_Products/46615 That's our new Flexible Hybrid hose.

Also some of our tool storage is sourced in the USA, and we are always looking to grow our USA sources while maintaining the price and value we are known for.

Hello Dave R.
Ive been looking into your goodyear hose. Fantastic warranty you offer on them. Ive always used real rubber goodyear hose on my reel but have been wondering about the hybrid hose. I know by reading reviews MIT takes care of their customers.
Just wondering if the hybrid hose you offer is goodyears too? What brand is that?
I noticed you beat up the Taiwan Flexilla hose warranty really bad and being 100% made in USA my hats off to you guys. Thanks for those jobs this country needs all it can get.
Thanks

michigan ladder company is located just down the street from me in ypsilanti, michigan. we use some of their products at the university where i work; they are very sturdy; even better than werner in my book.

michigan industrial tools just sells stuff from china like harbor freight. even if they ever did make anything here, i'd think twice before supporting the amash family and their politics!!

clausing machine is also based in kalamazoo, right across the street from where the old checker motors plant used to be, though i'm not sure if any manufacturing is actually done there, or if it's just the head office.

I thought Klein tools used to be in I think jonesville. Right on 12

Matt

According to their website
KLEIN TOOLS WEBSITE said:
1986 Klein acquired Vaco Products Company, of Jonesville, MI, a major manufacturer of screwdrivers, nut drivers, hex-key wrenches, electrical terminals and connectors, plus other related equipment. This acquisition expanded Klein's market coverage and added new lines of tools and supplies to the company's product line.

That's the old Atlas Press plant across from the old Checker Motors plant on North Pitcher Street.

Clausing's manufacturing plant was in Ottumwa, IA.

Atlas purchased Clausing in 1950. When Atlas later changed its corporate name to Clausing, the Atlas sign outside the building changed to Clausing too.
