Does the bit stay in the narrow black plate when torque is applied?

The bit's inserted into the thumb ratchet (either side depending on direction and both sides are magnetized). Then you can slip on the little plastic thumb spinner. Yes, you align it with the hex on the bit.

The handle can be threaded onto the ratchet when you need a little more torque like you're initially breaking loose the fastener.

The set seems like pretty nice quality.

How do you like those Tone sockets? Which metric sizes do they come in 3/8" drive?

Do you own any Ko-ken deep nut grip sockets? If yes, which brand do you like better and why?

I haven't had a chance to use them much but they do seem to be of equal quality to Ko-ken nut grips. I have the Ko-kon nut grip sets in 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2".

The Tone come with 8mm, 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm, and 14mm.

Here's a little lot I picked up in a Yahoo auction.
The Eron N740 is only a 4 1/2 inch hobby vice but I was surprised to find "Made in Japan" embossed in the bottom. The anvil is very small but given that I have no decent workbench it may come in handy. The Ryobi mini grinder is only 3 inch but probably okay for sharpening drills and very light work.
I can't complain at $60 delivered.

I do have one set of 1/2 drive deepwell impact swivel sockets,1/2 to 7/8 made in Japan.Brand is Ai Industrial tools and bought this set from a Cummins Tool sale.In a green steel case.Includes a Brendco 1/2 drive socket set and from one of those Cummins tool sales.10mm to 16mm are regular sockets,17mm to 32mm are flip sockets are just like one of those lug nut sockets.Used the 17/18mm socket once so far.Made in Japan as well in a dark blue case.

Vessel also has a plant in Thailand manufacturing some of the lower end screwdrivers.

Not that I own any of these ratchets, but check out these KTC ratchets with handmade lacquered handles. Their just display pieces even though they are functional, still pretty cool though. KTC makes 'em. Prices range between $2,000-$4,000+ depending on the design.

it seems the main difference with the other models is solely as display/art pieces with the lacquered handle that inlays meticulous "techniques" that's mentioned in the description, such as "kinpaku"--inlaid linings of alloys consisting of pure gold, with trace amounts of silver and copper combined included in the handcrafted art work. it seems the art work consists of a combination of diligent handcrafted "techniques" including using "kinpaku" that requires them at least a 3 month notice on those other designs for it to be handmade... I didn't do much research other than that particular technique on the terminology mentioned in the description.

Nice 3.5x articulated magnifier with magnet that can be used hands free due to a leather case with steel part.

I find the 3.5x mag to be a good compromise between distortion and magnification power.

One of my favorite ratchets. 1/2" drive Daido Japan Allenite, early 1950s, pre-Truecraft, Penens/Proto pear-head knockoff, "V" style pawls, coarse tooth, butter-smooth, almost zero backdrag, fatter/longer handle than equivalent Proto, built like a battleship. You can pipe this one all day long. Replaced the old rusty cover bolts with fed. spec. stainless steel and had to service selector lever and cam. From Japan you say? Remember who made the finest carrier fighter planes in the world at the beginning of the war until the allies caught up. Sweet....

My first tool 'Made in Japan', I stumble upon, seeking a driver attack for quite some time, looking on Ebay and i find is Koken AG112H model. It is not new, but in very good condition and especially in my country. (La France). Really happy with my purchase, a very nice finish!

I got a few goodies this week. A few Keiba pliers and this interesting piece from a garage sale. I have an USA version of these and I had assumed they were older brake line pinch pliers but the wire cutters on the side were a little confusing.

I definitely like Olfa. I also picked up a massive Eron vise that I'll be keeping for myself but I also picked up some very nice Japanese made files, adjustable KKK adjustable wrenches, KTC Fuller wrenches, quite a number of "Japan" marked sockets--some by Allenite and some I suspect by KTC, and few other odds and ends. If anyone is interested let me know and you can have first dibs.

Can anyone please school me on SEK tool from Japan? On german ebay I recently discovered a very uncommon set. Since then, I tried to find out whether or not I should go for it.

SEK is a lesser known brand but not necessarily of a lesser quality. They make a sort of DIY alignment system I wouldnt mind having. Unfortunately, SEK is hard to come by even on Rakuten. I've been searching for not only the alignment rack but also their combination open end/ flex socket end wrenches and I can't find a complete set through Rakuten nor can I find a part number for said set.

I'd have to wonder if that set you are after is really needed for automotive work? However, if you want it--go for it. You're not likely to come across it again.

I think they are air powered cutters, hammers, and possibly a magnetic drill press?

Some are just sanders, others like the auto feed mag drill is pretty much self explanatory. Almost all are metal working tools from bevelers to die drinders/needle scalers,etc..

Price was excellent through my friend at Airgas (auto mag drill), and the rest from ebay/Amazon.. Harbor freight prices for some of the best designed/quietest,smoothest tools on the Planet..

It's kind of nice to open your tool box, and not have every tool made in China.. It's just a choice I made, just to see what the other countries have to offer. Turns out to be some great stuff, if you know what to look for.. I don't have one China made air tool. Which is quite a feat these days.. Not China bashing, just one place I dug my heals in..

I picked up this rather nice HIT pipe wrench. It has springs which allow rapid adjustment of the jaws before tightening and some rather cool size indicators. I estimate 20-30ish years old as I remember these from my childhood.
