Anybody else also pause your tv to check out the different tools the shop is using? Lately I’m also obsessed with shop layouts. Just trying to get ideas to make my garage more efficient.

Seems like every show out there on their first season have old dusty no-name boxes.

Season two you see a few nice big snappy boxes against the wall, by season 3/4 the entire shops are blinged out with brand new 2 post lifts, Miller Welders and full on monster tool chests.

TV Money must be nice.

Chrysler has filmed me doing a couple builds. But I guess my straight lace generic white bread non tatted appearance doesn't sell any seats. :headscrat

I wouldn't mind getting $50,000 in tools in exchange for promotion. :) Product placement's been around forever. A lot of the classic shows were sponsored.

Craftsman currently has this big Instagram marketing campaign with Slick **** Rawlings.

What's retarded is that if anyone watches the show they clearly use truck brand tools.

Same goes with Gearwrench and their marketing campaign with Hawk Designs. All out million dollar builds aren't going to be done by guys who are buying Gearwrench because they can't afford/have the option to buy truck brands.

I despise those car shows. They’re all the same. Bunch of tatted-up douche bags doing million dollar builds. I have zero interest in that. How about something for the common man trying to repair/maintain his own vehicles in the driveway?

Check out "Live, Love, Wrench"
No tatted Douche-nozzles, No Greaseball Sleazeballs.
"Garage Squad" (after the first season) is not too bad either.

You obveously haven't watched Bad Chad Customs. His idea of a tube bender is banging it on the ground until he gets the right bend.

Yet..
I kinda like it, they get dirty, need to YouTube how to fix stuff and explode parts in the press, just like a real garage.
Not like yhe sponsored shows pull ****** go to comercial come back and they are tightening the last bolt after rebuilding it and reinstalling.

Car shows are a business model that needs to generate income. They do this through sponsors. Sponsors want their product in camera view, not a competitors. Often if they are using a product not supplied by a sponsor its logo will get blurred out. These shows are marketing as much as anything else. That's OK, that's how the game is played.

I saw "Waynes World" on TV the other day - and laughed when I saw this segment about selling out...

Wayne's World (6/10) Movie CLIP - I Will Not Bow to Any Sponsor (1992) HD

I would love it if Snap-on, PPG, Devilbiss, Trick tools, miller welders, et al. would sponsor my own Model A restoration project...
If you look there are some small time channels that do some amazing work without a golden arm of new Snap-on tools though.

Yep, it's ALL product placement. ALL of it! It even applies to their social media as well. I was once let's say "involved" with a reality TV show that is still currently on the air. They would leverage EVERYTHING for free. I am talking welders, tools, compressors, rental equipment, clothing, cleaning supplies.....you name it. Nothing was off the table. It was to the point where they thought they should not have to pay for anything. "Look at the marketing value we are bringing to your company"

That's a great idea for a show. Maybe have a show where they go to someone's house and get their car and fix it up. Just a plain working Joe who has a tired car. Maybe recruit local technicians who know that brand. New or rebuilt engine, trans, new tread, new stereo.

Sort of like that Chip Foose Overhaulin' show but for regular cars.

Isn't that basically "Garage Squad"?

This is why I switched from TV to YouTube. There's a ton of fantastic YT content, on every subject you can think of. Of course there's even more **** than good stuff, but it's there.

Idk about exactly which tools every show is using but bendpak has certainly got the lockdown on the lift aspect. Just about everyone of these shops uses them.

I like watching those million dollar builds. Its eye candy, that's all. Same goes for chasing classic cars. They dont shie aw much of the restoration process, but it's nice to see rare old cars I could never afford. I dont have much interest in watching someone swap out an alternator on their fox body mustang or tune up the carb on their 78 caprice...

They had a show that Rusty Wallace hosted called Nascar Angels that was on hallmark channel for a few years I think it was sponsored by Goodyear and don't remember others but they fixed cars at no cost for down and out regular people

yeah that's what I was thinking also...........they seem to have the camera at just the right angle so there is no mistaking who's lift there using.

Exactly this is no different than in the pro bass fisherman world, sponsored pros will have there boats loaded down with baits and gear they went out and bought themselves, these guys will be sponsored by various bait companies and they have to carry those baits as well, but at the end of a tournament when how you place determines how much money you have to pay the mortgage those guys use whatever it takes an often times it ain’t the companies there sponsored by.

Hell most of those guys before heading back to weigh in for the day cut off what they were actually using and tie on there sponsored companies stuff so when they go to talk in front of the cameras and that one question that always pops up (what were you using today to win) they can say oh the company that I’m sponsored by....because there the best bla bla bla. Can’t fault the guys there just trying to make a living.

I think the idea of a show going to just an average joes house and fixing up there car (not just slapping fancy wheels and a giant stereo in a dying car) would be amazing, people could send in videos or write a letter nominating people they think are deserving. Hell how many people do you know who live super buys life’s, are constantly helping other people, and just plain don’t have the time or the know how to fix up there older cars? Hell probably some dudes on here that are constantly helping to fix other people’s stuff while there own gets neglected. You could have like 4-5 guys in the team all with different specialty’s to really fix up someone’s tired ride. I’d watch that

You forgot one other thing the show needs. They need to make sure they have a cute girl that works on the cars, that looks like she is in her 20's but people are convinced she is in her 50's because that's what the internet says.

Live Love Wrench...the chick is all out annoying as hell....couldn't get past 10 min cuz of her..

I agree. Watched an episode where she was taking a oil filter off with a screwdriver she punched through the oil filter body. What? The car they were working on wasn't really a car but a frame with an engine. No body, no obstructions. Why not use the correct oil filter wrench there was plenty of room and the frame/engine was actually on a lift at the time? I miss Shade Tree Mechanic.

You are better off watching a video like this. A honest, efficient, and well used box.
