I also have seen more information on tools and equipment on youtube videos such as shop tours.

I agree. Watched an episode where she was taking a oil filter off with a screwdriver she punched through the oil filter body. What? The car they were working on wasn't really a car but a frame with an engine. No body, no obstructions. Why not use the correct oil filter wrench there was plenty of room and the frame/engine was actually on a lift at the time? I miss Shade Tree Mechanic.
Never had an oil filter not come off with the proper tool before? I've had 2 or 3 that required a stabbing to get off. Luckily that has been it.

Craftsman currently has this big Instagram marketing campaign with Slick **** Rawlings.

What's retarded is that if anyone watches the show they clearly use truck brand tools.

Same goes with Gearwrench and their marketing campaign with Hawk Designs. All out million dollar builds aren't going to be done by guys who are buying Gearwrench because they can't afford/have the option to buy truck brands.

Craftsman ? really ? I seen a few episodes of that "Garage rehab" show and they give the shops ZIPP pneumatic tools and BOXO chests. I also seen in that same episode that they put in 'Clear White LED' lights for a collision center to do paint matching :headscrat??? they said nothing of CRI for paint matching so not sure if they know what they are doing or they just didn't show that and edited out of the show.

I think what bothers me most about those shows is... The 1st 5 min after the commercials...is the same thing as the last 5 min before the commercial..its like they think we all have oldztimers... Of an hour show, if you take out for the commercials and the repeated parts..there might be 20 min of content. Unless it's Amanda Martins show...i dont mind them repeating her parts... Or All Girls Garage...but i watch that with the sound off...Same as i do with Street Outlaws, I love the cars, and watching them launch, and go by on the big end....but cant stand all the grown men bitching and crying..so i watch that with the sound off too...

I watch scanner danner and Eric O on occasion, mainly for entertainment. The wells tech case study videos are cool, but I feel they need condensed a bit. Lots of good info there though.

Diagnostic and scope trickery is about all the car stuff that interests me these days.

My point was she never even tried another tool besides a band wrench which wouldn't work anyways. The oil filter area was completely open, really nothing to get in her way. Use a cap type wrench with a ratchet and extension and it would have came off. She went straight to mangling the filter with a screwdriver getting oil all over the floor. I believe it was for the drama affect that all car shows suffer from. The correct tool would have removed it quicker with out the constant camera angle that focused on her figure but that doesn't fit into the producers goal of getting men to watch. She is easy on the eyes but annoying in the garage. She is probably a lot of fun away from the garage though.

You obveously haven't watched Bad Chad Customs. His idea of a tube bender is banging it on the ground until he gets the right bend.

i was thinking that this might be a "real" non-drama show.... then about the third episode i see them driving around in a new ford pickup.. after them complaining about money previously... my "jury" is still out on this show...:)

Try live, love, wrench on motor trend channel.new show, very down to earth couple.they havent sold out....yet.

I am giving it a chance.. agree the lady is a little "boustrious", but it does seem real... for now:)

Idk about exactly which tools every show is using but bendpak has certainly got the lockdown on the lift aspect. Just about everyone of these shops uses them.

Yet I’ve never seen a shop in real life uses them? I wonder what the sponsored to sold ratio is.

qft.

I mean yeah, I have a bendpak lift, but it had nothing to do with seeing them on tv. If I had the coin I would have went with rotary like every prrofessional shop I've ever worked int.

Anybody else also pause your tv to check out the different tools the shop is using? Lately I’m also obsessed with shop layouts. Just trying to get ideas to make my garage more efficient.

Forget the shop layouts that most of the shows use. They are done specifically to allow the best camera positions with the least amount of lighting changes possible. Pull up some of the set photos and it will give you an idea as to how poorly they are set up to be "working " garages.

The worst part of the "fake car show" is, the head guy always takes credit for what the guys in the shop does, especially that douche Richard Rawlings. Every time they reveal a car its always, "I did this" or "I did that". Also, the car shows always fall into one of two categories, the car are either super high dollar rigs that no-one can actually afford or its a complete bolt on build where all of the parts are ordered from some 3rd party parts store. I haven't seen a car show actually show any work or teach someone how to do the work, instead its made for tv drama and that's why Youtube has taken off like it has and why its replacing cable tv.

Shade Tree Mechanic was great until they put the hipsters on there. The guy with the goatee and the other guy, Billy B, or whatever his name was killed the show.

Bruce Bonebrake had a great show too. No "rat rod" building or blinged out like Liberace BS. It was just showing how to do repairs, some simple upgrades on daily drivers and how to use some, affordable for most folks, diagnostic stuff. He used Stahwille tools too.

The season ending two episodes of bitching rides really showed a bunch of cool details. The first of the two for the coronet was great not having Kevin shoved down your throat, but the producers blew chunks changing his antics with that paint kid, gezzis is he irritating. I'd rather watch live, love and blow me, at least she's got a nice ***.

I despise those car shows. They’re all the same. Bunch of tatted-up douche bags doing million dollar builds. I have zero interest in that. How about something for the common man trying to repair/maintain his own vehicles in the driveway?

I miss those guys on Shadetree Garage on TNN...1990s, I think? They showed real repairs on everyday cars. Nothing fancy or exotic. It was actually educational TV, now that I think about it...

Roadkill is a good show without a pimped out shop.

Roadkill Garage uses a lot of Harbor Freight stuff.

Full custom garage is under rated.

Ian Roussell from Full Custom Garage is great. Zero Drama.

Roadkill/Engine Masters/Ho tRod Garage/Dirt Every Day are about all I watch anymore. Fred, Dave, Tony, Lucky, Steve, Steve, Mike and Dave are very good at making TV.

I like the dog. His buddy was working under a car, on a creeper. The dog had him cornered and damn near licked him to death. LOL!! All kidding aside, I like that show too. He is very creative and low key but he does plug the hell out of his sponsor, Eastwood. The VW cartoon car and the dune buggy were very good.

I could live without some of the reality show drama from Mark Wormann on Graveyard cars and I have had enough of Kevin but Kindig does some beautiful cars.

I'm honestly surprised that "Tech Garage" on Velocity never gets mentioned on here. There is no drama, no deadlines, no million dollar builds...they actually do a really good job of breaking down components of an automobile, and show exactly how they work, how to repair them, how to diagnose them. It's basically two teachers instructing the viewer. You could actually learn alot from that show.

Flying sparks garage on youtube is what led to Live love wrench. While it lacks the production quality, it also adds to the character of the show. Its more of what the average garage journal member would tackle on the weekend. Full custom garage provides great content on really advanced levels of craftsmanship. The content is great, but most wont relate to it as its more advanced fabrication work. He could literally build anything. Bitchin rides is fairly good as well; although sometimes the scripting takes a precident over the skills of the individuals doing the work on the vehicles. My favorite host is Steve Dulchic. After a minute of seeing his body language on film, you can really tell he is a car guy first, and far from an actor.
The magazine industry doesnt necessarily make one an actor.

Eric the car guy on youtube I feel is very practical and gives good advice. Also he seems like a genuine person speaking from his experience.

I don't even watch any of the drama shows that they put on the air. I only watch the MotorTrend originals myself. I love Roadkill, Roadkill Garage, Hot Rod Garage, and Dirt Everyday. I also like Engine Masters. Those shows are all pretty legit dudes, doing a lot of hoodrat stuff (usually on the cheaper side of things, and on Roadkill they use the cheapest tools they come across on the road), and making it fun to watch. I like their different, yet meshing personalities.

I don't even enjoy watching the shows on cable honestly. Like you guys have all said, just unrealistic builds, with top dollar tools, top dollar equipment, top dollar "deadlines" and top dollar attitudes. No thanks.

Then if you want a laugh, while getting far more information than you ever thought to need about tools, shop equipment, etc... You have to go watch our buddy AvE... Keep your **** in a vice. ;)

I always liked Stacey David while on Trucks! and later on Gearz. Still a giant infomercial, but I at least felt like he knew what the **** he was doing.

As for that show live, love, wrench? I saw her on the interwebs, but didn’t know they had an actual show. Good lord, I just... damn... can someone hand me some tissue!?!

I've watched most of the shows on Velocity, (now MT) - always enjoyed the older Wheeler Dealer episodes. Always found the owner of Fantomworks to be too annoying, (whining) to watch!
