I met Mark Worman at SEMA a couple of years ago, and one-on-one he is actually a nice and knowledgeable guy who truly loves old Mopars. I think he feels the need to ham it up for the camera, and I'm sure the network edits it heavily for "dramatic" effect, but if it was less "shtick" and more content, I'd probably move it up on the DVR priority list.
There was a Fantomworks marathon on today, and I only got through one episode.... Dan is just too damn arrogant, regardless of how much skill and knowledge he has.
I think I like Roadkill the best of all of these current shows, but my favorite was Extreme 4X4 on SpikeTV over 10 years ago. Jessi Combs was one of the co-hosts, and she is probably one of the best fabricators/welders to host one of these shows... and cute, too!

If you want the see some clever fabrication with a relatively modest rest shop search project binky on YouTube. Fun build and the guys have a good since of humor.

Project Binky! New episode last night, watched it twice already.

I miss the first few seasons of the original MuscleCar. Lou Santiago is a character, but pretty easy to watch. Unfortunately, I understood that show went down for the same reason as Trucks, with Stacey David. The liability of working on "customers" cars, or giving away vehicles proved to be too much.

I remember distinctly when Lou was working on that Mustang road racer, got about 2/3 of the way, and started hose clamping the fire suppression system to the roll cage. I thought that was weird, since he had over designed, and over built what he had done up until then.

His newer show with Jared Zimmerman would be better if they were actually allowed to do full videos of what they do. Instead there's a little too much product placement. They wouldn't need it if the network stepped up and paid the bills.

I'm honestly surprised that "Tech Garage" on Velocity never gets mentioned on here. There is no drama, no deadlines, no million dollar builds...they actually do a really good job of breaking down components of an automobile, and show exactly how they work, how to repair them, how to diagnose them. It's basically two teachers instructing the viewer. You could actually learn alot from that show.

I like watching this show too...but you can definitely tell RockAuto is their sponsor...They seem to mention them about 2 minutes...

I like Wheeler Dealers too...especially the earlier episodes with Ed..

All Girls Garage aint too bad either..i had some issues with the motorcycle episodes though... not sure if it's me..but I feel like their is tension between Rachel and Bogi..

I think it would be cool to make a show where they take a group of the best custom car builders, give them yesteryear's lemons, like Pacers, or practially any car from the 80's, etc. ,the ugliest of the ugly cars and see who can actually make them cool. Sorta like biker build-off I guess. Have Dave Kindig go against Chip Foose or whoever. Give them all the same car each episode and see what they can make it into. I can only handle so many custom Mustangs, Chevelles. Let's see a custom Matador!

The Power Block shows (I think) showed the most tech content. ...too bad that they are not consistently on now. :-(

Fantomworks probably shows as much (or more) as everyone else. However, you can tell that Dan has learned all of his auto knowledge from magazines. ...the sayings and cliche's are the big tell.

...Two Guys Garage... Someone needs to tie both of their hands together. They need to speak without the CONSTANT GESTURING.

I'm done.

Oh yeah... It seems that a lot of the tools that you see are Gearwrench. ...and Dustless Blasting. :lol_hitti

The worst part of the "fake car show" is, the head guy always takes credit for what the guys in the shop does, especially that douche Richard Rawlings. Every time they reveal a car its always, "I did this" or "I did that".

You just described Steve Jobs. That could be why all Apple products are named "i" whatever.

That sounds like a fantastic idea. I'd watch that!

I like Ian's show, I just wish there were more episodes. I think I like Iron Resurrection the best because of Amanda's fine construction...errr I mean Joe's awesome metal working skills. I often wonder if Joe watches the show and sees how Amanda looks at **** though. As a man, I've seen that look, and I know what happens next.

I too used to like watch Sam and Dave on Shade Tree Mechanic, Jessie on Extreme 4x4, Lou on Muscle Car, and Stacey David on Trucks, but all the new shows seem to be 10% content 90% commercial/product placement.

I hate to admit it, but I kind of like Bad Chad too. I don't care for his style, but I appreciate he gets the job done with whatever he tools or materials he has to work with. Not everyone has a pipe bender, so if beating it on the floor gets the job done, why not?

I tihnk there are around 50 episodes of Full Custom Garage. It is primarily broadcast on MavTV. I think motortrend only has the rights to the first two seasons, about half the episodes.

As far as chad goes, I can see how that show could be classified as a "guilty pleasure." What he creates is ridiculous, but at least it's unique and he does have SOME skill. I couldn't do what he does with what he has to work with, I can admit that.

Looks like a Witte screwdriver. I'm guessing Matco rebrand them.

Could be. Since we all know matco doesn't make their own anything.

Those are the old style. The ones from the screen grab you posted before look like these.

I like Ian's show, Full Custom Garage, and Iron Resurrection the best. I used to watch Detroit Muscle and the other 3 shows that were part of Power Block, but I haven't seen them on in quite a while. They used to be on Sunday mornings. I would tape them to watch after I came home from the swap meet/car shows. As a Mopar guy, I really tried to watch Graveyard Cars, but I really can't take Mark's antics. I can't stand Dave Kindig's shop foreman either. Remind's me of Boyd's guy Duane. I want to see skills, not hear drama.

Those are the ones that keep the majority of the audience watching. The one's that don't know a fender from and alternator, a crescent wrench from a hole punch. That bs is what gets them to tune in.

I never watch shows like that.
When I was a kid I used to watch Orange County Choppers and other shows like that.
Wheeler Dealers also.
I now despise all shows about repairing or building cars. They only focus about the relationships in a shop, a lot of drama and everything is fake.
They don't show the real work that goes into a project.
There are a lot of cool channels to watch on YouTube.

Matco has two types of screwdrivers one style made by witte in Germany and a second style without the anti slip flocking made by someone in Taiwan. The Taiwan set is priced like they're made out of gold.

Like many have stated, a shows popularity = more viewership = more product placement.

When I was watching Mike Holmes for a while, they were 100% Dewalt for a couple of years, then the following year, everything is 100% Milwaukee. The brands want the exposure and the show takes the best deal.

I like on some shows where they may have asked for sponsorship from a brand and they didn't get is, so you see the tool with black electrical tape covering the name. In some cases they go to the point of electronically fuzzing the name. This is all hilarious because everyone knows what the tool is...yellow, teal, red, orange...etc :)

It also goes the other way. Norm Abrams had a pre-production prototype tool he was using for a number of months in some real world testing. The vendor required the show to obscure the name until the tool was ready for release.

MotorTrend/Velocity got quite annoying during the changeover with all the shilling for dustless blasting.

I enjoy Gearz and Stacey's Cornwell (is he the only one rapping them?)...I find Ant on Wheeler Dealer to be pretty good

This Live, Love, Wrench show some of you enjoy...ugh it's like Fixer Upper. I find the two of them annoying af. She's ok looking but meh

Just watched Live, Live, Wrench show. They were trying to get a 9" off of an old frame. The guy on the show took one hammer and hit it with another hammer to pop a leaf spring bolt out.

I keep waiting for blood to spill with those two. Fun to watch, but I keep thinking:
Someone's gonna lose an eye! or a finger, or other body part.
Tool/shop safety not their strong suit.
So, pretty much like real life car repairs in our driveways.

I like Garage Squad...they do most everything with the tools they bring with them (at least thats what they show). Ive seen them use just about every brand of tool. Plus Heather Storm is not to bad to look at.

Plus one for Garage squad! Real cars, real mechanics, and a real budget and limitations.
There’s no made up drama between the cast, just what can we do with what we have in a persons garage with the basics toolwise.

So much of these shows is about creating fake drama. I can't even stand watching Gas Monkey Garage (or Fired up). Are any of those still on?

I watch these shows to learn how pros would attack a problem. Wheeler Dealers has always been at the top of the list for me and the transition from Edd China to Ant hasn't been the catastrophe I thought it would be. There is always the decision of whether its something you can do yourself or outsource it.

Garage Squad is nice too because you see real world type problems and how to deal with them.

Live Love Wrench is kind of nice, although i have only seen a handful of episodes.

Can't say that I can always tell what types of tools they are using, especially Wheeler Dealers.

Some of the Saturday Morning fare has become a bit superficial.

I like Garage Squad, they help people get cars on the road not trailer queens.
Miss Sam and Dave from Shadetree 2 guys garage is just an over enthusiastic sales promo
Garage Fix is okay

Been watching Goonzquad on Youtube, 2 younger guys rolling around in the driveway rebuilding wrecks.

Long story but last year I was on set for a shooting of TGG. Kevin and Willie B were really cool guys. I've seen TV shows being shot before but it was interesting to see how cluttered their set was just off camera but when I saw the final product, it looked good. It's in the corner of a fairly small shop in Tampa. I was expecting much more. As someone earlier said, these shows have turned into commercials for product (that's why I was there, my product was being used) and not much "how to". Of the current shows, Full Custom Garage is the best in my opinion. You can at least see how Ian does things.

After reading your post, looking at the tool, and reading some of the reviews, like many of the reviewers, I’m kicking myself for not paying more attention to this when I’ve done brake jobs. Even without the tool, I should’ve been cleaning the hub more thoroughly.

Was watching one of South Main’s repair videos and spotted a tool I was not aware existed, but now must own. The hollow Roloc tool for cleaning the rust off of hubs around the studs.

I’ve been doing it with a wire brush. It *****. This, ripp ripp, a couple squeezes on the trigger, and it’s done. I had to back the video up and watch it again.

Never heard of it

Part of the problem is the stupid networks change names every year or so and move the shows around all the time so it’s impossible to remember what channel and day and time to tell the DVR to record

And most shows are fake drama and fake deadlines and commercials and product placement commercials within the show
