Hello all,
I am at my wits end trying to rebuild an old Kellogg American 211 compressor I inherited from my dad last year. I used that thing as a kid and have always loved it. When I first got it I knew that it was in need of some TLC and after calling around I found Air Flo Inc and ordered a top end rebuild kit with all new seats, valves springs and keepers. It was no problem getting the old ones out but I have come to the conclusion that I am not that great at trying to make my on reed valve tools. I tried to make a set of the 4 tools but they never really fit the valve seats and keepers well enough that I was confident I wouldn't break the seats and keepers and the pins kept falling out.
I have called pretty much everywhere and and was willing to send the head with the new parts if a shop would install them for me but all of them wanted to just sell me the set of four tools for a couple of hundred bucks. I finally found a compressor rebuild business on the east coast that would sell me a set for close to $75. I ordered them back in Late june but the parts manager says he is still waiting for them to come in so I have all but written them off.
Does anyone have any suggestions or know an a place I could:
1. rent or borrow a set of the tools for a few days
2. Know of anyplace I could send the head to have them installed
I just can't justify spending more than a $100 on a tool set that I will most likely use once. I really love old tools and especially the old ones from my dad. I am a retired USAF pilot would be very grateful for any help. I really just want to get this thing put back together.
Thanks,
Troy
