:wtf::wtf::wtf:

I've been reading lots of posts saying how good Tekton tools are.

And I've been thinking about buying some, just to see for myself.

The other day I was organizing the garage and realized I had a full set of combo wrenches from them.

And I have no idea where they came from or when!!!

This might be a good kind of dementia!!!

I'm now waiting to see what else will turn up!

There's a lot to be said for well organized email for online receipts.

And just post everything you get in the "show your new tools" thread. lol

They "snuck home during one of your shopping trips and hid in among your other tools". (Didn't work with my wife either [emoji15])

Dude, really? It sounds like you buy tools that you don't need. I'd be more sympathetic if you found an old but highly valuable tool buried in your old man's tool box.

But a new set of shiny Tekton combo wrenches ("Whoa...where did these come from???). Come on. Maybe you should donate them to someone who'll actually use them.

That seems a little harsh...

I sometimes buy tools that I don't yet own, but really could have used on a prior project, and would like to have ready if needed in the future. Especially if I catch them on sale.

Sometimes, these get thrown into a drawer or bag and forgotten about. I'm a pretty busy guy...

So that's where I left them! So sorry! Just send them to me and I promise I won't leave them in your garage again. :lol_hitti

I have more of an issue with not remembering where I store tools I buy. I know that I own it, just don't know where it is.

...DITTO...

Which leads to another problem. Eventually you clean house and find all the multiple copies. Maybe, if I can find the free time...

Good to hear you found the wrenches, hopefully you didn't forget about the $50 you owe me, I lent it to you to buy the wrenches.

I sometimes review my Amazon history... to find a consumable to reorder... like Mrs Pines's foot cream...

I suddenly see I purchased some obscure tool two months ago... it got delivered... I sorted a location for it... I printed a label for it... never used it... totally forgot all of the above.

Does that count?

I spent 15 minutes today looking at belt sanders to buy when I realized that I already had one in a cabinet in my garage. Only thing that kept me from buying one was all the stores close at 6pm here.

I have a lot of tools that I'm running across that I didn't know I had. Then I have some that I know I have and can't find. I'm 8 years into a major downsize of garage space. Combining 4 households into 1. I'm not even old enough to be senile yet.

I have more questions than answers.
Bill, this thread reminded me of your organization thread. Doesn't look like you have posted on there for awhile. Did you finish or still working on it??

Update on photos?

How have the college classes you have been taking affected your outlook on tools/equipment?

I moved my tool chests from one shed to another and in the process I discovered that I had a brand new Gearwrench serpentine belt wrench kit. I have no idea when I purchased this but glad I discovered it. More and more senior moments as time moves on.....

I was cruising FB marketplace the other day and saw a nice older craftsman grinder on a very sturdy base. I zipped on over and grabbed it then took it to my storage unit. I have been collecting shop equipment for a shop build. I took it to the back of the unit and there was another grinder on a stand. Scratching my head as I walked out (not remembering buying that one) and spotted the one I have had for a long time and forgotten about. So three grinders. Now I'm thinking I have a problem. Spent a few minutes taking inventory...three extra vices, two metal chop saws, two circular saws, two 60 gallon compressors. I think I need to make a list of the things I DON'T need because memory is not helping me!

School was, in some ways, a way to avoid dealing with it all.

But school demands some organization to be able to function. Keeping a vehicle going for transport, having money for gas, being organized with my time because I'm taking 24 credit hours this semester. Plus, I'm the full time house husband for my wife. When she gets off work, she needs to be waited on hand and foot.

So life got complicated and demanding and busy.

Didn't help that we had the virus for more than a month.

So the buying slowed down quite a bit, but not entirely. I still have a list and keep my eyes open, But buying the second or third of an item, just because they are a good deal, has gotten rare.

School has motivated me to focus on what I want to do, and that is to make things. All kinds of things with all kinds of materials and processes. So instead of collecting for the sake of collecting, I have specific items I'm looking for. And I must have space for anything before it comes home. Space to use it, not just store it.

Bill

In other words, I've learned to operate in chaos, and try to control it enough to function. So far so good. 72 credit hours with 4.0.

I have several tools that I can't locate when I need them, but I do recall buying them and I doubt they sprouted feet and ran away. Sometimes though, I think the daughters stop by and borrow a tool and then "forget" to bring it back and that's why I can't find it. I have more than one of many tools, like tape measures, hammers, wrenches, pliers, etc. So when they need to borrow a tool and they see that I have more than one, they figure they can hang on to the tool for as long as they want.

When the daughters were growing up, they would use a tool and then put it back where they found it. They knew where tools were because I would show them where the tools were and how to use all the different tools. Some tools, like a hammer or pliers or wrenches, don't really need a class on how to use them. But tools like the air impact tools, or any of the power tools, I taught them how to use them so they wouldn't get injured trying to do something stupid.

Anyway, now that they are grown and on their own, they tend to stop by, grab a tool, take it home to use it, then take forever to return it. Funny how that works. The oldest daughter had my scroll saw for several months before she brought it back.

She used to make these craft things for gifts, little wooden figures of people and animals and she paints them up. They look pretty cute and everyone seems to like them. I don't think she has made any for a few years though, she has been working real long hours and I don't think she wants to screw around with it anymore. She had started making them at our house in the garage, then she sort of moved her work area to her house.

Sounds like some positives have come out of it for you.

Now that you are over Covid 19 have you tried making anything? If so post some pictures.

Keep picking away at getting things done.

Finished up these 2 trays for my 5 drawer HF service cart. Fabricated it in class, ground the welds at home, painted and installed it the other day.

I never regret finding tools, just means I need to organize more. With 2 lower boxes, a top and bottom box comin, and a box at the folks place, plus my Kuny bag, I got tools all over.

Bill, those trays look great! I need to build one or two of those also. I bought one of the magnetic ones at HF. While it’s nice, it’s not even close to large enough. Thanks for posting!

what about losing a tool on a job, buying a replacement, going back to the job 2 years later, seeing your tool on the shelf, and taking it home? :)
