I know of one shop in my area where they're used. Outnumber the Snap On tools, that's for sure.

I have thousands of dollars of tools, and very few snap on, In fact none of the snap on tools were purchased new by me. I am making a snap on collection one at a time. When I can buy a single piece at a flee mart/pawn shop for a dollar I will add it to my tool box.
I for one have never heard of that brand , is it only an Canadian tool company?

While I'm sure they are awesome I prefer to get three tools for the price of one expensive one. A good mechanic is the guy that knows how and then can diagnose and fix a problem. Don't worry about kind of tool if they work. I'm sure I could go blow ten grand on golf clubs vs my five hundred dollar set.....but I still won't golf any better

799.99$ for it
That set often goes on sale for $299 - $349 so don't rush out.

I've had Mastercraft for decades but not the "Maximum" line... mine are "Professional" series. They were replaced a number of years ago by the maximum series. Aesthetically, I prefer the older pro series for the engraving and finish but I can't compare durability. Never had any socket issues, ratchets have been good but are now relegated to back-up duty in favour of 80 tooth snappys. Wrenches are just okay. I'd consider upgrading those first if you get into the trade.

Bottom line, run away from anything else in Canada that you might find at Sears, Princess Auto, TSC etc. for sockets and wrenches.

IIRC,I have read on here that Princess Auto is the Canadian equivalent of HF.

THat is true. Canadian Tire is a company that has been around for 75 to 100 years. They sell quality tools, fire arms, sporting equipment and auto parts. I can't think of any stores in the U.S to compare it with.

I like the Mastercraft impact sockets. I use their screwdrivers as beaters, work just fine as chisels and prybars. Actually I have a set of their wrenches too. They're fine, not anything to write home about, but turn bolts no problem.

To the OP......

Make a list of the wide variety of tools you will need, but without make or mfg.

Prioritize the list.

Then shop each tool individually, deciding on the price point you can afford.

mastercraft (and the maximum "better" stuff) are great tools.
way better then Harbor freight crappy stuff

But you can have well reknown tool for less then snap-on at a bunch of carquest, napa etc.
think about WERA, Gray tools and other.
way cheaper then snap-on stuff for a equivalent quality.

princess auto, buytools.ca(and the like), etc are the Harbor freight equivalent yes!

Canadian Tire is the Harbor Freight of Canada

Some stuff is good....some not so good.
Not true, some stuff has distinct similarities but Princess Auto is the HF of Canukistan. OP, Mastercraft and Maximum are the only tools I have other than my ratchets. Awesome quality in the Maximum stuff and the prices absolutely cant be beat on sale. Around here there are two garages and I have worked in both, one is all Snap-On from when the truck still came around and the other is all Maximum and regular Mastercraft other than some of his air stuff which is Blue point. I asked the one using all Canadian Tire stuff and he said he has never broken any of their stuff except grinders and the likes, no complaints at all after years of using their wrenches and sockets 5 days a week

Canadian tire does have some **** tools from time to time but overall their hand tools are good quality. Bet there are more cdn tire tools on the farms in Western Canada then all the other brands combined.

OP, stay away from the Mastercraft angle grinders for sure. Their consumables are very low quality in my experience (cutting discs, sand paper, sawzall blades all ****).

I worked with a guy who used their cordless drill and impact doing commercial sheet metal. I used to laugh at him, but he just traded them in for new ones every time they crapped out. Definitely not what I'd want, but some people don't mind doing that. **shrug**

I have a quite a bit of maximum stuff. Along with my snap on. I'm quite happy with it.
The mastercraft stuff ( not maximum) is not that great. Screwdrivers are junk.

Maximum even gave me a new door for my tall SS cabinet after I dented it. Free
