Another vote for REDBACK, I have several pair, all steel toe and slip on, no laces. I am on cement all day every day, just like wearing a pair of slippers! Light and comfy.
My feet used to kill me wearing cheap boot, now it is all I wear. Around $150.00 on the MATCO tool truck.

I currently wear Red Wing model 608 - comes in a steel toe, I think they are around $200. Twice the price you are looking to spend, but the difference is less than a tank of gas for me - but it's your money.

I have been wearing RW for 30 years or so, now the insulated one under the Irish Setter brand are made in China - absolutely worthless, bought two pair in the last 5 years and those will be the last.

Made in the USA is important with Red Wing products.

For insulated boots I have gone to Danner and have been satisfied.

Just one perspective...

If youve got a Meijer store nearby, every 3-4 months they do a "buy one pair, get another for $1" sale. It took both mine and her Caterpillar boots from $100 to ~$51. I know they also carry Red Wing and several other brands but I like my Cats, Ive beaten the piss out of them and theyve held up well.

One thing in common with a good quality, long wearing boots (or shoes for that matter) is they use Goodyear welt construction (sometimes just called welt construction). The upper is not going come apart from the sole because the 2 are sewed together with heavy nylon thread.

This also means that the boot/shoe and be properly re-soled. A good Vibram sole properly sewed on to a boot will cost $50 (?) but you will double the life of your boots.

Boots should be dried overnight (but not in front of direct heat). Heavy dirt/mud should be cleaned daily also. Having 2 pair of boots is really the best as it usually takes longer than 8 hours for boot to dry thoroughly. You can wear the dry pair the next day. 2 pair will last you MORE than twice as long.
