Top tool order

Here is my order and like I said here are the ratchets taken apart, if you want a snap on I can do it, but here are the others. Also the tool stuff looks great and I love the satin finish, I wish they would keep making it. Great stuff and thanks again Mike, I will buy again and soon... Also the top tul stuff looks like the genius(bottom pictures on tool box) except for the 1/4 bit-3/8 head which has a plate on one end and a snap ring(not sure what you call it, but you get the idea)on the other end. Look at the size of the head it looks great and strong, I bet just as good as the gear wrench if not better, hahahahaha!!!! Also great torx small to work on my cell phone, great for that, and nice extensions, love the wobble that is wobble or not depending how far you push it in to the socket.

Those do look pretty nice. How's the ratcheting action compare to SO/SK/etc? How much were they?

Let use know how the Torx drivers hold up, I had to buy Wiha to get a great set. Careful, Snap-on or Cornwell might scratch off the Toptul name and put their name on it for twice the price.

These ratchets both the top tul and genius, don't compare to the snap on 3/8 smoothness, but then again for half the money or less and 72 teeth and a different type of gear and pawl setup, what do you expect. I haven't seen anyone that copies the snap on setup, but my proto round heads come with a Double pawl mechanism doubles that doubles the action of the teeth and has 4 degrees of movement. I think they are about the same as the snap on and better in my opinion, but I don't think the snap on or proto are as strong with their designs. This design looks to be much better for strengh. Maybe if people want pictures, I will take the proto and snap on apart, but only if people want pictures to see the differences. So please let me know.

FYI The gearless ratchets are always the hit at any tool show I've been to.

Here are the pictures of the proto and snap on, choose for yourself, and I will bet money the snap on doesn't have 72 teeth... I think 49 or so... The proto is first snap on second and the proto has teeth on both sides and the snap on doesn't. Also the proto is a quick release. So you tell me which is stronger? Also the proto is pretty rough, but with twice the teeth grabbing what do you expect for the drag.

The HF roto guts looks like the toptul. The teeth on the pawl extend all the way across.

I opened the 1/4 Gearwrench roto and the guts are pretty different from the HF. I don't have a decent camera to take picts, but it looks like the snappy guts, although it's hard to tell from your picts. The pawl only has teeth on either end, not in the middle, and it doesn't use the heart shaped wire to change directions.

I got my new ebay tool, and I lost out on another 1 inch plomb pebble ratchet, but I bought this instead and it is new. I am adding it here so people can see it is the same design... I always wanted one of these for a while.... The last pictures shows all the tools to the job and ones in glass you must always have to make sure that the job is complete. Also there is a pat number that I can't read on it and I would be curious who owns it.....

Also the one thing that makes the snap on nice that none of the others have, even my roto head snap on is the 2 5cent o-rings top and bottom making it sealed and helps keep it clean. Maybe toptul and proto can add them to top off really good products.

I use mobil 1 in a grease tube, a little thicker, but works great in my ratchets.

I've been wrenching since the early 60's and have never been curious enough about my ratchets to ever take one apart... if they keep working I leave 'em alone. But that's just me.

That is the same mechanism as the S-K fine tooth ratchets. Just my 2 cents, but make sure you keep it cleaned and oiled with light weight oil, make sure the "spring" is positioned correctly during reassembly, and don't overtighten the center screw. I really like the S-K's in the collection with this mechanism, can be finicky sometimes, but no big deal if you know what to troubleshoot.

I like the action of grease in a ratchet, but you have to clean out the ratchet every few years because it tends to dry up and gum over time.

Really like the Permatex Ultra Slick #81950 suggested here on the site, been switching to that. A few ratchet mechanism styles still respond best to the light weight 3-in-One oil, or even lighter yet, the Snap-On IM6 Air Tool Motor Oil.

If I use to much grease in the 60 tooth cman pros, they stick and don't work, but for everything else I haven't seen a problem. I was hoping because it is synthetic, I wouldn't have to clean it out, I have had some that have had it for 4 years and haven't had a problem, but they are also ratchets I never use, so we will see... One day I will pick up some RLL, even though the mobil 1 is red.
