No. He has no "expertise in using tools" but WHY would we go near anything like a circular saw?

With common sense it's extremely easy to know what our capabilities are and anything that would require something like that is beyond anything we would care to do to begin with!
As for the delivery comment.....We have a pick-up and save money wherever we can. I'm 5'2, 120lbs, but have stood at the other end of a heavy washer, sectional, and refrigerator going down 3 flights while on a deadline because the landlord promised the apt sooner than we had expected. We do everything on our own because we have no one, not even family to rely on. Better that way.
I realize that some of you may have grown up with a wrench in their hand and know how to take things apart and put them back together. My father in laws solution to everything that needed to be fixed was, "pay for someone to do it" or "read the bible son." As for me, my Dad was old enough to be my grandmpa, so I learned a lot but I'm the only one left.
Trying to keep the story short, which will be hard. We lived in an apartment up until about a year ago. So, any repair or simply putting something up was as simple as calling maintanance. We bought our very first home just last year. We still don't have furniture for 3 rooms and have no plans of buying any soon. The desire is there, his lunch brakes he spends walking around Lowe's telling me about all the things he wants to work on and what he wants to learn to do. But he won't buy anything for himself because he says we should get furniture first. Before that, it was expenses for our 3 year old, and before that rent. Always something..
The reason why I end up doing so much around here right now is because he's working full time and pursuing his MBA. He goes to work and has school 4 nights of the week and gets home around 11pm on those nights. Then he works on Saturdays too. In the afternoons on the weekend he spends time on the lawn and studying which is all he really has time for right tnow. He'll be graduating in the Spring and I think it would be awesome to have this for him.
Since we bought a house he's taught himself how to fix different things that have come up here and there. He's done a lot of the landscaping and even put a pond in the back with running water. For "newbs" like us that's an accomplishment! But, like I said we're always improvising on things or just buying something cheap that will do the trick at that moment. I was just hoping to get suggestions on what might be best for every day repairs. Someone mentioned that a tool set never stops growing, I know that to be true. My gramps had a whole basement full of tools! I just wanted to know what pros like you all suggested as far as brands and the essentials.
Even though we already have it - "staple gun" was kinda the type of suggestion I was looking for. I know we've used that on a plethora of things already and being our first year in a house we're actually going to get to put lights up!!!

We've already used it for weather strip too. Figured that one out quick!
As far as the things he wants to do....Nothing major. Just putting some shelves up, cleaning gutters, regular maintance on the house. Oh also! Almost forgot! I won him an ATV in a raffle. Someone mentioned 4-wheelers also. Anything he could use on that?
Every special occasson, I save up to get him something he really wants or needs. I always try to look for good deals, financing, etc...I also look very closely at quality. Our house would be fully furnished if I'd just get everything at a Bargain Depot!
I just don't want to go out and get something a salesman suggests that's over priced, or that's packed together in a bundle with a bunch of things we may not need or a bit too much for our needs, or something that's not quality. I see just about every purchase as an investment. I'd rather wait to get something good then to settle.
A gift card is a nice idea, but I'd really like to have some presents under the tree for him this year.
Anyhow....If anyone else is still willing to suggest anything, from brands, ideas or nice basics, rest assured...neither of us is going to "poke an eye out."
Thanks to everyone that helped out! The list was the best so far. TY very much for that.
