That's an insane amount of work. Would love to see that truck with a set of 22.5's on it. The bed is over the top, it needs the wheels to round it off. After what the owner invested in the bed the wheels and adapters are peanuts. Nice work!

Thanks guys! Wow!
Yes I am somewhat insane..in a sorta good way.
The owner promised to show it to me when all painted up. I'll be posting when I get shots of it.

Thanks people!

At this time Adam, all I could say is, a LOT of materials went into it.. if you want the exact specs. Please feel free to PM me.

And now, for the grand finalé.
The man kept his word and came by for a visit yesterday.

The painter did one hell of a good job.

It's always kinda surreal when I get to see the finished project all painted and functional.
It's like the thing is mine when it's here, I live it, breath it, immerse myself in it.
But when I've given it back over to the client and stepped back to look at it like yesterday.
I almost find myself asking. I did this?:dunno:

Cheers!

Nasty, that is amazing. FANTASTIC workmanship.

Don't sell yourself short, you mentioned "the painter did on hell of a job". It wouldn't have turned out like that had it not been for the fabricator doing one hell of a job!

Thank you for sharing this build with us.

Mike.

I showed up late to this party but got damn! It's nice reading an entire thread and seeing a beautiful finished product at the end. Great job!

At first when you said it was going to be painted I was a little unsure, but the finished product looks great. I was worried it would detract from your craftsmanship but I think it accentuates it. Regardless it came out awesome, I bet the owner is very happy and people probably ask him about it all the time.

Hey, thanks a lot guys! The client is more than happy with the way it turned out and so am I.
Wonder what the next phone call will bring in the shop that I could share?
Too bad I can't show you guys what I'm working on right now...Top secret.

That thing looks damn nice. Just tell the guy he needs to polish his wheels a bit. ;)

Maybe I could grind all the little annoying bumps off and re buff...

There was no sense in cleaning the wheels before all the dirty work was over. He only got it back on Monday

In memory of a great guy, I resized all the pictures that were HUGE in this thread. It took many hours to fix, but well worth it to give homage to Robert and his dream.

Robert was in Texas this last March where he was RVing like a king with his custom rig. Tragicly he went for a jog from which he would never come back.
He was 56.

I was lucky enough to help him fulfill his dream and to find a friend along the way.

Godspeed Robert.

Remember, life is short..DO IT NOW!

Thanks for the reminder and for the memoriam Claude. If he had an impact like that on you I can rest assured he was a great guy. Sorry for the loss of your friend.

Sad news, looks like he got to appreciate it for many months.

I guess none of us get to choose the time, but we all know it's coming. Looks like a guy who knew how to enjoy life.

Managed to squeeze the beast in. I had to reconfigure the shop. Only so much you can do with 20 x 40.:)
It was a good thing. In the 17 years I've been here, this is the best layout so far. I guess the new 12 ft long work bench did the trick.

The first step is to lay down the main rails and position the fenders.
I'm going to notch the main rails to fit over the saddle brkt and add a flange.
I love loose plans..

I also got the bike hoist carry thing. It has to be mounted behind the cab.

I'm a Tig guy, but this is a mig job. This is what I will be using.

I use Argon as a shielding gas
I've used this setup a fair bit. But I am not happy with my welds. I always get the black soot.
The welds are sound, just not as pretty as I would like.
Any tips??

I already unplugged the truck battery.:D

Always PUSH, on Aluminum, no so much black soot... the welds look good, use pulse if you have it I just welded up a quarter inch aluminum "Nail Chute" the other day with an Invision and XMT, running .035 wire, with a push pull gun, Spraying aluminum is fun but those little white balls set the world on fire!
