On a Simple Machines forum, there is an adjustable setting to warn someone that is topping an old post.

Example...

Is there a similar feature in vBulletin?

It's frustrating taking the time to reply to a thread only to find the question was asked a year ago.

in my opinion i can agree to an extent but i would rather encourage people to use the search function and post on an old thread rather then post a new topic that that will generate the same responses

I'm talking more about cases where someone tops a thread to answer a question someone asked a year ago. About a week ago someone topped a thread that was about three years old to answer a simple question that already had several good replies.
