Here’s a plug for one of our GJ members, dnschmidt, and the Toptul line of tools he sells. I recently ordered a set of six Go Thru screwdrivers and received them in two days, Phoenix to Indianapolis. If you’ve watched Eric O. on his YouTube channel, South Main Auto, you might have seen him with one of these Toptul screwdrivers. He refers to it a a “prydriver”. I’m here to tell you, these things are Stout! They have a blade that runs through the grip that could be used as a striking cap. They make my Proto Duratek drivers look like something from a kids play set. I’ve received other Toptul items from Dennis before and I’ve never been disappointed. These tools offer great value.

I was tempted with their screwdrivers, but I already have more than my needs require.

I did place a small order recently from Dennis for some odds and ends. Turn around was like Amazon Prime and the prices were unreal for what you get. Put in another order a few days after. Another shoutout to Dennis here as well

How much? Demo drivers are nothing new. Those look similar to the redesigned Milwaukee you can buy at HD.

I see more Wiha in there...

The Toptul ratcheting screwdrivers are also really nice. I’ve bought two of the convertible ones and one of the stubbies from Dennis. The stubby has a nice meaty handle like an old school gear shifter. The overmolding on the handle isn’t up to German standards, but the ratchet feels great and the length options (with/without knurled extension) are just about perfect.

Topul make some great value high quality tools, this is another example of that. They really bridge the gap between cheap'n'nasty & really expensive high end.

I have wanted to get a set of those Toptul drivers but I've already got the Wiha Chiseldrivers and the Felo 500s with striking cap. I don't need any more. Still everything I've gotten from Toptul so far has been great so I look through Dennis' list to see if I need anything else from time to time.

While we're talking Toptul, check out what I just found on the Toptul Japan twitter:

A Toptul branded Astro 40SL. It costs a ton too. ~160$. I dig the color though. It's different.

Maybe it's me (I'm sure it is) but how the hell do you buy them. I got in to the site but geezus it was not self explanatory at all. Kept asking for state. I had state filled in. Couldn't get anywhere.

Toptul are great tools imo, the wera chisel drivers are another good choice at a similar price.

No, they are not. I've got a goodly supply of both the set I brought in and the individual screwdrivers both with and without the striking cap. I'm too damn lazy to list everything on EBay. Just send me your Email address through a PM and I'll send you my inventory list along with my standard "blurb" describing how to use it.

A reminder, all of TOPTUL'S "Phillips" screwdrivers and screwdriver bits are built to the current DIN standard and all of them work perfectly in JIS screws as well as standard Phillips headed screws.

TOPTUL'S go thru screwdrivers are slightly out of balance whereas Wiha's are a hell of a lot out of balance. For normal stuff I prefer the non-thru versions as they are perfectly balanced. When it's time to pry and beat on **** then I whip out the go-thru's but that's just me.

If I were looking for a striking screwdriver, I’d probably just go with the Mathew CatsPaw. You can get them off Amazon and they’re both made in Taiwan. I’m guessing that Rotar (Toptul) makes them too.

By out of balance I mean the back end of the screwdriver (the handle end) has most of the weight. Not surprising since the through shank adds weight to this part of the screwdriver which a normal screwdriver without a through shank doesn't have. With TOPTUL this is actually quite minor. With Wiha it's dramatically worse. It makes the tool less fun to use for actually driving screws.

I'm thinking the non-thru version would be fine for me. I cringe every time I see someone using a screwdriver as a chisel. And if they're balanced better, that seals the deal.

Thanks dnschmidt! I look forward to seeing your complete listing of tools.

Lets face it, screw drivers are used for a lot of applications other than turning screws.

Like a chisle, opening a paint can, scraping, scratching, prying, shorting out a spark plug on a small engine. Our members here could make a long list here in 10 minutes. Some may be over the top and unsafe but many are not.
When I have a Philips screw that is rusted and stubborn I often hit the top of the screw driver with a hammer. Not very aggressively, but when I get my striking screw drivers I will be aggressive if the need arises. I will be able to be more aggressive in using them as pry bars too!

Striking are good, giving screws a quick shock with these and a hammer helps bed them in for good grip and break bit of corrosion bond making screw come out easy and not defacing it .
I really love the go-thru, tool truck quality at 1/4 the price .

I had opportunity to pick up a small order from Dennis a while back.

The Toptul driver handles are excellent for grip.
All the items I handled or bought seemed stout and of great quality.
I haven't beat on anything yet, but won't hesitate to buy again.

I was looking at some Topul tools today and from what I looked at it were made in Taiwan. I like Taiwan tools & don't have an issue with most of them but the green/black handles on these screwdrivers look identical to the 1/4" driver in the Taiwan made 1/4" socket set. Are they these Taiwan too?

Toptul is the house brand of Rotar (based in Taiwan), so I would imagine it’s all Taiwan based.

Rotar make stuff for many different manufacturers, much like Infar makes the Carlyle/Channellock combination wrenches.

I like that Slimline open end wrench set. For all practical purposes it does not skip any sizes. How many times have we ground down a wrench to fit on some machine. Looks like they may be good on Bicycles too!

Yea, but that evil local guy Mike bought the only set I had so for at least 9 months it's: "No soup for you." I am amazed at how much interest people have expressed in these. I bought them as a lark expecting them to take up space in my garage forever. The stuff I think should fly out the door doesn't and the stuff I think is sort of goofy people fight over.

Dennis, Let us know when you get that Slim line wrench set in. Do you also have it in SAE?

Just got my set of 6 Screwdrivers and I will say I really like the feel. The balance is still pretty good being a Go Thru driver. I like the hex bolsters on all sizes. Some sets I have seen skip them on the smaller size like the PH1. The smaller sizes have a 10mm hex bolster and the 4 larger sizes have a 13mm hex.

I also like how the shaft is a hex and not square or round. It helps you get a better turning grip when your hand is greasy. Plus it gives you other location options to put a wrench on it should spacing be challenging.

Nice set and a good price.
