There was some recent discussion and several photos of TopTul tools in a Tekton/Taiwanese tool thread here on GJ. I don't want to hijack that thread so I am posting here. I realize that bfbhandtools.com (Canada) and wrenhandtools.com (USA) claim to be TopTul distributors but there is little TopTul product on either Web site compared to the broad line available on http://www.toptul.com. There has not been much recent discussion about either distributor here on GJ.

I am interested in the ratchets, sockets, ratcheting screwdrivers, bit drivers and 1/4" drive spinner handles (especially CAIP0814, see attached photo). I'm kind of a spinner handle collector. :D

Has anyone done business with either distributor? If ordering non-stock items how long has it taken for delivery?

I never tried ordering from Wren, the website looks abandoned. I heard many times here on GJ that he was building it back up and would start selling again, but I haven't seen or heard anything that he's back.

The Canadian site bfbhandtools.com, everything works on the website until you try to checkout., then you get an error. I have tired over many months, many times, in cases they had server problems; but nothing.

I e-mailed them a couple of times, never got any response.

I have bought a variety of tools from dschmidt, good price, good service, no problems as far as I am concerned, but some people on this site do not like him (or his attitude). I personally would recommend dschmidt to anyone needing TopTul, if you e-mail him, he will send you a price list of what he has, which is more than what shows on his eBay store.

If you're willing to buy four of each of them, they come five to a box and I'll take one of each for myself, I might be able to help you. Up front I'm telling you that if I order them today they will not be here until late March or early April. If you can live with these conditions PM me and we can talk.

It would appear that there are no viable USA or Canadian TopTul distributors. There are TopTul distributors in the UK and the Phillipines. Anyone ordered anything from them?

I also had a REALLY bad experience with schmidt. He blew up over a simple warranty request and was breathtakingly rude, followed by two angry long emails accusing me of this and that.

Bottom line, any company that treats their customers this way is not a very good company. And forget about warranty.

Yes, calling your customers morons on a warranty request is a great way to do business. So thank you, you just confirmed why I am dumping this garbage and going back to snap-on. Their tools work better last longer, and their reps provide great service.

A response to the ***** Pumaman. (Leoruiz it's CONFIRMED) This clown ordered a set of the super long combination wrenches which I carefully placed into a flat rate box using peanuts and shipped to his sorry *** in No Where Nevada. The way TOPTUL packages these is in a very flimsy plastic tray who's sole purpose is to last about 10 minutes while they are on the boat to wherever they are going. The wrenches almost always break the cellophane that holds the wrenches into the tray when shipped in anything other than the custom box TOPTUL uses to send them 10 at a time as the cellophane is about 0.0001 thick. The box Pumaman received apparently had a couple of wrenches floating around in it that had broken through the cellephane. BIG FRICKING DEAL. These are solid chucks of chrome plated satin finished steel that are going to spend the rest of their lives bouncing off the floor when you drop them or off of each other when you put them into a tool box. That's why I'm calling this fool a *****. Now as to why I'm calling him a dishonest thief.

He sends me an Email telling me that he wants a shipping refund of $7 since No Where, NV is so close to Phoenix. I tell him to pound salt. In the listing it states shipping $15.00. That's what the Flat Rate Box cost it doesn't matter if it's going next door or across the country. He read this notice in the listing, he paid it so why the hell am I going to give this clown a shipping refund? After I told him to shove it he asks for a complete refund as the tools are no longer new. WHAT??? He then posts a picture of the broken package (oh my the cellophane broke) in a normal brown cardboard box in the EBay dispute area. Odd since I sent it to him in a white USPS box. So now I've established that he's both a
liar and a thief.

Clowns like Pumaman are why EBay ***** as much as it does. I'm selling world class tools dirt cheap and I've got to put up with assholes like him. I can't believe it.

I had a great experience with dnschimidt. I ordered an air impact ratchet (SA3144) from him directly (no Ebay, ... just emails and PayPal payment). It was well packaged and promptly arrived.

I know from the start there was no warranty offered on it and accepted it. Sadly the ratched stopped working after a week. Great ratchet, I was just unlucky and I realize I took a chance. Nothing wrong with the seller and I would buy again from him.

OK You asked for it so here it is:

1st contact
Dear schmidtdn,

hello, I was really excited to get these, but was quickly disappointed because the product packaging was torn open and the wrenches were all loosely bouncing around in the box.

Also, the shipping for phoenix to pahrump for 4 pounds is about 8 dollars priority, about 1/2 of what i was charged. Normally this is no biggie but given the packing problem I would like a refund of the overcharged shipping of $7. Then all we be good.

- ni3ki

My response to first contact

You're kidding right? The only flat rate box that fits these wrenches is the large chessboard box and I paid over $15.00 to ship them to you in that box. I lost money on shipping I didn't make it. Also, is it my fault the post office destroyed your box? It was packed carefully with peanuts. I could not have done a better job of packing it. Why are you blaming me?

Dennis N. Schmidt

After thinking about it for awhile I fired a second shot

Right in the listing it had the shipping cost at $15. It didn't say that I cared where you live or that the shipping charge would depend upon where you lived. It said SHIPPING COST $15.00. So what's your complaint? You have me very upset about this. Do you think that peanuts, packing tape and driving to the Post Office is free? I can charge whatever I want as a shipping cost and you have the right to determine whether or not you're willing to pay it. You determined that you were so what's your problem?

Dennis N. Schmidt

Then the request for the refund occurs and I tell him he should think about it. Because he's got wrenches that are going to cost him five hundred dollars to replace in Snap-On and he's never going to be able to buy from me again since I'm going to ban him.

Then the fraudulent picture shows up: How did a 3inch thick white USPS box turn into a foot deep brown box. WTF??

Fraudulent Picture:

If you have had a problem with the AirPro Impacting ratchet I will make it right by you. I have only one question as these tools do have a problem triggered by excessive air pressure. Did you use the tool above 100 PSIG with the trigger pulled? That's the max pressure for these tools and above that they have a chronic problem. This is particularly true if you would hook them directly to a 175 PSIG two stage compressor without a regulator.

Doesn't matter either way. I'll take care of this for you just contact me.

I've ordered a few items from Dennis, and have had no issues at all. Matter of fact I am looking forward to ordering 1/2" drive 23mm-32mm deep sockets to complete my set, when he get's them in.

Hello GJ.

Read the above thread. Yes its ugly but you should read it. This is what happens when you spend your cash on TOPTUL and ask for warranty service. You get attacked online, you are accused of being a liar, a *****, and... stuff that is not printable in a public forum.

The truth is, they are right, I am the ***** here. because I fell for the toptul scam and wasted my money.

Of course it's printable on a public forum. It must be as I just printed it. What failure of the tool did you experience that justified your so called warrantee claim? What warrantee claim are you making? Did the wrench fail during use? Did it not fit or bend during use? What scam were you victimized by punk? A couple of tools broke through the cellophane wrapper, which you would have to remove to use the tools anyway, and this makes the tools unusable or damaged in some way? You try to blackmail me into giving you seven dollars for what? If you didn't want the tools why not just ask for you money back without trying to skin me for seven dollars first which you clearly didn't deserve. When that scam didn't get the job done then suddenly the tools were unusable. These are TOOLS, do you think that their rubbing together a tiny bit in any way harms them. They are solid chucks of hardened steel. You're ridiculous, you're a liar and you're unworthy of respect. There I just said it on a public forum.

Spend your money how you want but the distributor, good or bad, has no bearing on the quality of the product. There have been numerous stories about poor service off the tool truck. Likewise I've received wrenches and sockets from many brands that get jumbled about during mailing. Buyers remorse and/or a damaged outer package that disturbs your ridiculous OCD is NO excuse to try to scam someone. You are a thief, and don't deserve to be on this forum or buying from ebay.

No, I have no dog in this fight but people like your disgust me.

Sask Dude, Typically not as shipping is quite expensive along with being a PITA. Small stuff is less of an issue since you can use the USPS Flat Rate Boxes. UPS and FedEx are just too much trouble when it comes to the larger items. The weirdest thing is that I get requests for tools from all over the world as the prices I'm charging on EBay are apparently far less than these people have to pay in their native countries. I wish TOPTUL was as well known and respected in America as it obviously is in the rest of the world. Good thing that I'm already rich because I'll never get rich selling TOPTUL in America. In other parts of the world I think I could. Particularly Australia apparently where they absolutely love the stuff judging from the inquiries I receive from there.

I haven't yet done business with Mr. Schmidt, but, frankly, his response sounds right on. If I can think of a reason to order some Toptul from him, I will. The apparent quality and price seem unbeatable. Check out the unpaid endorsements of Eric O. on YouTube (SouthMainAuto).

Taiwanese quality has improved greatly over the last decade or so. I recently bought a not-cheap Expert-brand (which is part of the Stanley Black and Decker group) swivel impact socket, and would stack it up next to Snap On in regards to apparent quality. Sunex is another Taiwanese brand that others endorse. There's also Teng Tools (used by Edd China on Wheeler Dealers) and BGS, which is a distributor/marketer in Germany. I have a couple of BGS tools and they're also good quality.

Pumaman really has his head up his ****. He's a tool polisher, not a tool user.

Is that a user disparagement? If so, he asked for it.

Snap On does, of course, provide amazing customer service. (They warrantied for me a disintegrating Blue Point Compothane hammer which I bought in the 1980's. Sight-unseen, just over the phone). They also sent me, at no charge, a ratchet re-build kit for an ancient torque wrench. But you pay a bundle for that kind of service.

Pumaman's complaint isn't even a tool-related issue. He's just a complaining whiner.

dnschmidt, do you have access to the entire Toptul line? Would we be able to order a single set or do you need 3-4 of the same set for it to be worth your time?

The wait time doesn't bother me, just trying to get the preliminaries taken care of.

Yes, I do. I can't handle the tool carts as I have no where to store them and I'm not equipped to ship them. (meaning crate them up) There is only so much room in my garage.

Most sets can be ordered individually most individual tools come either 5 or 10 in a box. I've discussed my problems with TOPTUL at length here previously. The reason I don't sell socket sets and very few wrench sets is that TOPTUL has apparently never heard of American cars. Few of their sets include 13mm, 15mm, 18mm and 21mm which are universally used on American vehicles. Obviously this makes selling sets to Americans a difficult proposition. Some of their tools which I consider to be really unique such as their 75 Degree offset combination wrenches (which I feel are fantastic by any definition) I buy the missing 15mm wrench and include it into the sets I sell on EBay. My top seller is the short offset wrench set I make up myself and the extra long combination wrenches which thankfully are complete from 10-19mm. TOPTUL DOES NOT MAKE MY LIFE EASY. I've bitched and I've moaned about these problems and they have completely fell on deaf Taiwanese ears. Honestly, they don't give a damn about the American market.

Todd Wertz (Twerzy here on GJ) is the only person I've ever ordered stuff for as he is a complete gentlemen and a stand up guy that I knew wouldn't screw me. He ordered a number of SAE wrench sets. When they came in off the boat four months later he paid for them immediately without the slightest complaint.

For anybody else the conditions would be very stringent and I'll admit that they are stringent. You have to pay my price in advance and wait four months for the boat to show up. When it does you pay the shipping and I ship the tools. That's a hard deal but what choice do I have. I can't get stuck with something I can't sell.

Hi Dennis,

Thank you, I will send you an email. I was at maybe 90 psi with the trigger pulled (I have a small craftsman 25 gallon compressor set on 100 psi so it drops to 90 psi with trigger opened).

Holy **** Dennis. I've never done business with you but gawd damn you sure as hell earned an order from me. This is a prime example of what's wrong with this country and the pussification of it. It's takes me a whole lot longer to degrade to calling a customer an ******* but don't think for one second I wasn't thinking it from minute one when something like this goes on.

Thankfully, my reading skills are above par and, after reading for content, I do not see a legitimate complaint regarding the service or product.

Complaining because you didn't get your whiddle fiddled by a seller means nothing.

Blackmailing for "actual postage cost", when shipping & handling was billed & paid for, makes you the scoundrel.

Thanks for bumping an old thread.

For anyone who missed it, the description of at least some of the vice-grip style Toptul pliers on Dennis's eBay listings is great! Now will he list the DAAS1A09 at some time in the future?

To all:

I too have ordered from Dennis and I have nothing but praise for him and the product received. With that being said, I'm still kicking myself in the *** for missing out on the offset wrenches he was selling. I have this proposal. If there are others that would like to get a group buy together for those wrenches (through Dennis, of course), count me in. I'm dead *** serious!

These offset wrenches or different ones?
