Don't do this!
You might confuse the PVC acetylene line with your PVC airline and turn your purple HF spray gun into a cutting torch..

I'm planning on getting a medium duty set up, something like the Victor Medium Duty Performer Outfit CGA 510 but since I do not plan to weld with it and it will be mostly for automotive use, I like the propane vs. acetylene option. However, I can't seem to find anything other than bubble gum kits that use disposable cylinders for tanks. I see Victor sells a kit that uses propylene instead of acetylene but I suspect propylene is significantly more expensive than propane. Is it a big deal (and expense) to convert an oxy-acet kit to propane capable? It looks like special hoses and ?

I used regular hoses for 20 years with LP. Not saying you are sposed to but,,,,, You need a tip.

Summary, you need some T-rated hose and the appropriate oxy-propane tips for your torch to change from oxy-acetylene to oxy-propane.

Thanks. I'm trying to decide what size oxygen tank to get. I'm thinking 60 ft3 for my occasional use (most automotive, heating/cutting stuck bolts, cutting off exhaust systems, etc). I have a MaineOxy close to my location and am going to check what a rental costs vs. buying a cylinder.

If you can get an S bottle which is 125. A Q is 80. A larger gas, 125/140 makes it work so much better and last longer as well as cheaper to fill.
Look for bottles on clist, save a lot. You can use aceteylene and 'lp for backup. Had a bud in auto repair, all be ever used was 20# l.p. and 80 oxy. He had to keep eye on oxy, was easy to run out. Ideally is 2 bottles. Never run out, gives a window to shop.
I I have 5 125's and 80 oxy. I filled. 3 big ones, a gas age c25 yesterday. Gave me a break on some wire and knocked a oxy off the bill for a discount.
Had 2 gas bottles half full and a full spare, filling Nother made for 2 full spares.
I can work a while before I got to get supplies. I got a little welding rod and 12# of 030 for small feeder.
I need to score a box of 4 1/2 wheels yet. Maybe a couple chop saw wheels.

Thanks. I'm leaning towards an 80 as a good compromise for occasional use.
